Ah what lego used to be... the good old days...

By in Australia,

The really sad thing is, this came out three years *after* Indy Transport 6335. Which one of those would you rather own? Even the yellow/black/green colour scheme here looks odd.

This is probably the best of the Town Jr sets. It doesn't look half-bad from a distance and the proportions are pretty good. The race cars are slightly simpler than the previous generation of race cars, but their proportions are the same and they still look pretty good. That said, the previous race car transporter (6335) was a much better build.

By in Canada,

This is forever a reminder of how bad things got in the late 90s. So glad we’ve got the sets we do today.

This single-handedly proves de-evolution is real.

This might actually be the only Town Jr. vehicle with headlights that weren't printed.

By in Turkey,

Not as bad as other Jr. sets but certainly a step waaaay back.

I genuinely loved this set as a kid, even if it didn't have the direct connection to LEGO Island like 6335... I especially loved it for the bright colors. This was also the first time I owned pieces that were gray, and the 2x3 bricks were the first gray bricks I owned. It's funny to think back on a time when that was rare.

By in Finland,

It's weird to see it says "City", yet it's definitely not a LEGO City set.

^ At least in the UK, 'City' was the branding for Town Jr. sets at the time. I didn't even know they'd gone by any other branding until I was looking around Brickset fairly recently.

You know, as a kid I never realised how lacklustre these sets were though, purely because I had nothing to compare them to. Aside from a few of the smallest sets, the previous wave of Town had been before I was old enough to be interested, so this level of design seemed 'normal' to me... though that said, I never was that interested in the town / city themes in general.

I definitely noticed the drop in quality, although I think I was in denial about it for a while. If it wasn't for Star Wars and Bionicle, I would probably have gone through a dark age in the early 2000s.

The colors chosen for this set are horrible.

This set came out about a year or so after I entered my Dark Ages, but as a retrospective, I didn't leave Lego, Lego left me. Some of these designs from the late '90s were so bad that it wouldn't be a stretch to say that Mega Bloks was putting out better builds at the time. I couldn't support this.

Then, in the late 2000s I came back, fueled by awesome sets like Cafe Corner. Lego was good again.
