Dang, this is a weird set... if you can even call it Lego to begin with. It’s surprising just how much stuff like this Lego has made over the years.
Still, considering this would cost about £50 in today’s money it puts sets like the app-controller Batmobile to shame...
Wait. Am I missing something? Or is this set? I think it’s missing lego bricks.
Are any of the pieces in this set actually compatible with normal Lego?
The more sets I see from the 2000s, the more I wonder why I didn't have a dark age.
I actually bought that bumber piece from bricklink, hoping I could use it as headlights for a Technic mod. It really is not compatible with anything. Not sure if I threw it in the trash. It was worn out as well... At least some one liked bumbing that car to things ;)
@Your future president: All joking aside, this set had a pretty justifiable reason for using big and specialized parts like it did: it was designed for outdoor use, similar to the Airjitzu, Spinjitzu Masters, and Dragon Masters fliers/spinners from LEGO Ninjago. The Racers Outdoor RC series are designed for high intensity outdoor play, with rubbery, flexible body panels and rugged wheels, tires, and axles designed to withstand crashes, flips, rolling, and more, even in rough or messy conditions like dirt, mud, sand, and gravel.
Even among Technic fans who dislike these sets' simplified, specialized builds, the series as a whole is grudgingly respected for having the most powerful suspension and motors LEGO has ever produced (granted, this particular set lacks the suspension elements that are present in other sets from the theme).
I never owned any of these Racers outdoor RC sets, but having owned the earlier Racers set 8376-1 and driven it around outdoors at family camp with my folks, I completely understand why using regular Technic or System RC builds outdoors is less than ideal. Besides the risk of parts getting lost if they come off in a crash or from not being attached tightly enough, normal LEGO parts are not really designed for this sort of high intensity outdoor play, and after just a little bit of use they really start to show it.
@Paperballpark: Yes, the body panels basically use Technic holes, and the connectors are compatible with most other parts that use Technic pins or holes. In fact, the double pin connector created for these sets was also used in 7249-1 and 7905-1 from LEGO City. That said, the motors and wheel/tire elements in these sets use a really wide, rugged axle connection that does not appear in any other sets, so you can't use Outdoor RC motors with Technic wheels or Technic motors with Outdoor RC wheels… at least, not using intentional connections.
I really like the colour scheme of this set, though.
I don't have much else to say, not having been into racers at the time, but... I dunno. To me, the orange-and-grey combination looks really nice ^^
This set is terrible.
