Universal set?? Maybe a proper name would be...

I don’t know. Something other than that. Something technicy sounding.

By in United States,

I remember getting this one for Christmas--fun set! This was a great era, I had 8020, 8040 (with pneumatics) and 8055 (with a motor) from about the same time. You know they meant something when 30 years later you still know them by set number!

Wasn't this mentioned in the history of pins posted not to long ago? Hard to tell, a lot of these parts packs are named so similarly.

An excellently balanced set. They sure don’t make em like the used to.

Why is it called the universal set? Because you can rebuild it for anything? Surely that’s just all Lego?

I loved this set when I was given it back in the 80's and my 5 and 7 year olds love it today. I taught myself many gearing and movement concepts. Soooo many possibilities...just wish the rubber bands lasted longer.

I wish they still made sets like this. 8020 was my first Technic Set, and I still have it 32 years later.
