I forgot I had this.

By in Australia,

I found this in '95 in a Toys R Us, and bought it purely to get the ghost figure. No regrets.

This set is long gone, but I still own the Knight and the ghost.

By in Australia,

I loved this set so much as a kid, thankfully I didn’t give it away in my dark ages.

By in Canada,

Nostalgia through the roof for me with this set! I didn’t get many sets as a kid but this was one of them... and one of my favourites.

By in United States,

I remember getting this on a weekend trip, such epic stories played out with the simple characters. Great stuff.

That ghost....wow what great memories. Definitely a classic set from a wonderful era in Lego history.

By in United States,

My brother and I had this set as kids — one of our very first! Great memories of this set.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

One of my first Castle sets. Kept it on shelf near my night light. Rather fond of the glow ghosts.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

I had 2 of those, I wish LEGO release those old school castle sets again one day...

By in United States,

Got this set as a kid and I remember loving it because of the knight's helmet and armor, which I think were new that year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Zorboy. You can’t say that. That’s my line. I invented the phrase “No Regrets.” My only regret is not trademarking it.

You will only get this if you’ve seen Lego movie 2.

Enjoyed this set immensely growing up. That Knight was unique in my collection and had many an adventure.

Wasn't this one of the first (if not THE first) sets to have a ghost? Weird how on-again off-again that style of ghost has been in sets.

By in Australia,

@Your future president. Alas, I haven't the Lego Movie 2 yet (I don't really plan to, it doesn't look that good, and I don't even think it's out in Australia yet, because as per usual, Lego has the utmost respect for it's Australian customer base), so I'm afraid the reference was lost on me.

Boo!

The ghost minifigure was introduced in the 1990 castle sets, also appearing in #6081-1 King's Mountain Fortress. When the skeleton figure was introduced in 1995, it appeared in a set resembling this one (#6036-1 Skeleton Surprise).

The "Great LEGO Sets" book references this set on the page for the Black Monarch's Castle that came out a few years before this set. I wonder if there is more to the name than what was let on at the time, since Black Monarch's Castle clearly doesn't contain a king minifigure. And yet, here is his ghost... Did the Black Knights overthrow their leader and become an autonomous collective? Did they abandon the old castle for a new one that reflects the democratic nature of their military leaders? And in the process, did they murder their former king?

By in Poland,

I had this set as a kid. I remember that I lost the ghost during my stay in hospital. Thankfully a few days later I found it. After some time the dark days came and I gave it away. But now I have two of these: one is used in excellent condition and the second one is in MISB condition. :-)

Ah another blast from my past. I always wondered what the little building was spouse to be, an outhouse?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One of my favourite little Lego sets :) I have fond memories of having this as a child. Sadly my mum threw it out when I got older :(

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I had this and I loved it. The ghost was great and the knight was in full armor!
I only had 2 Knights in full armor, the other came with 6059, Knights stronghold.

Both sets had technic connectors at the base so you could link them up and have....a wall with an extra tower in a different style.
It was the closest kid me came to having an actual Lego castle and many adventures were had. And it was awesome.

In fact, both were recently remade for my son's lego city. It didn't take long for his Ninjago to take residence in it. They now use the ghost tower as an extra prison. :)

So this would be one of the first appearances of that ghost, wouldn't it? The design stayed the same for decades, thats kind of impressive

I don’t often comment on the set of the day...
This is a monumental set for me as it was the last set I bought as a child.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I clearly remember getting this and being so excited about the ghost! The little building was later pressed into service as any number of things, including a lift car in a very over engineered elevator MOC...

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Seeing these older sets, I wonder if Lego could release an older set every year under "Legends" name. They did it before, between 2001-2004.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Bring back castle.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

^The 2019 Lego line up could sure use something like this ay.

Another dark age is coming. Brrrr

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huwbot knows how to play to the crowd after indulging it's own weirdness. Even if this set is less interesting than Znap, it rolled a natural 20 for nostalgia.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Always liked how long the GitD ghost piece would last in the dark, even after just a brief exposure to light sources.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I love this LEGO set!! I had it when I was a child and it was a tower to start defending the territory of the Black Knights before arriving to the castle!! Hours and hours of play with the ghost and the knight. Glad to see it again and that people also still love it!!

What's that bird thing meant to be? (obviously a bird - but what type?)

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

@bookmum: I think it's a parrot disguising as a falcon. Or, more technically, I always took this to represent a falcon or similar, but clearly the only mold available to Lego was that of the Pirates parrot :)

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I remember my cousin getting this and I loved it, the ghost was an absolute amazement to me at the time.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Sadly Lego doesn't make sets like these anymore. I miss Castle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I also got this when I was little. Of course I got it for the ghost! But I also loved connecting the little building to whatever castles my siblings and I had built at the time (black walls or gray walls, didn't matter). Sometimes I had to remove the clip for the blue flag so I could connect both sides to the adjacent walls. I loved having the castles haunted!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yes. I remember the exact location in the store where I first saw this.

GLOW IN THE DARK GHOST?!? HECK YEAH!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Been a long while, but finally another RSOTD that I own. I remember being so excited getting that ghost.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Had this one in my youth as well. What a great parts pack!

Horse, knight with full armor, sword, 2 lances, 2 flags, parrot, arched doorway, and of course the ghost!

2 of the best minifigs from my whole childhood collection.

I played with this a lot alongside 6059 - Knight's Stronghold.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Found this set disassembled in a bag while cleaning out the house. No idea where it came from or how it got there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My parents thankfully never threw out my childhood sets so now my kids have this one. Great little set!

I just picked up the Black Monarch Castle and another copy of this one (as well as a ton of classic space including the monorail) this weekend from craigslist. I'll eventually get them all up on bricklink when I have time. :-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Those of you for whom this set evokes childhood memories are making me feel old. This is one of the sets that pulled me out of my Dark Ages; I was well into adulthood by then!

I still have the set though only the ghost is part of my display collection.

@kinto, I also remember the exact location where I bought this set. It was Boswell’s department store in Oxford.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

My mom bought my this set as a kid, and it was my favourite for a loooong time. One of my first System sets, definitely. I still have it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Lego.lord: They did, but the Lego Legends releases were massively unsuccessful. They're not likely to do that again, at least not with sets as dated as this one (many of the most important parts of which are long since retired).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I miss classic castle sets a lot!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@Lyichir: I wasn't aware that the legends were unsuccessful. Maybe it was too early. The AFOL has grown a lot in the last 5-10 years.

One of my first sets, missing the instructions tho very hard to find

Gravatar
By in Japan,

I feel like I'm in a "forced" Dark Ages by LEGO due the lack of Castle Sets being released.
Don't get me wrong, I love the new sets and I'm always getting some here or there, but PLEASE LEGO, MAKE LEGO GREAT AGAIN, bring back a REAL castle theme... ú___ù"

Gravatar
By in Japan,

@Peanuts, When the first wave of Legends was released, I was still on my dark ages due financial limitations... If they release it now, oh gosh I will sell some of my new sets on Ebay to get those.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those constantly complaining about how expensive LEGO has become, $7.25 in 1990 dollars is equivalent to $13.96 today, for a price per piece of over $0.30.
