Random set of the day: Shell Service Station
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1256 Shell Service Station, released in 1999. It's one of 63 Town sets produced that year. It contains 144 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$20.
It's owned by 898 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

I don't remember these ever being sold in Australia, although I'm sure I bought a couple of them on eBay, but gosh, I wish I'd bought the whole set. Even with the slight hint of juniorisation, they were still pretty good sets for the late 90s.
This seems ironic given the service station just revealed today. Kinda looks similar too.
Uh, where's the actual service station? Because all I see is gas pumps. Ironically, we do have a Shell service station around here; probably the only service station with a mechanic and garage around here; as opposed to just a convenience store/gas station as 99% of them are; when we used to have several at one point. Some went to selling just gas, others auto repair. There's another with a towing service; but that's profitable because the station is right off the interstate.
But still, the pumps themselves, and the sign are very well done. I also like the "Ferrari", which looks nothing like one.
^^This.

They were sold @ Shell in Australia, while the weekly polybags were free with petrol purchase.
Sadly I only ever bought the Car Wash in my younger years, which was still a pretty neat set.
Not one of the better LEGO Shell stations (look at that "Ferrari"!), but I do like the tall sign.
I am glad that I was in my dark ages during that time as imho this set is pretty horrid. The pricing sign looks great though and somehow strangely out of place. Only redeeming feature in a very bad set.
That's quite an incline the Ferrari is driving on. Actually, I think the perspective is weird on this. The Ferrari looks like it's driving up, but the Trike is apparently near the Gas Station.
How will this guy ever fuel up his trike? No way the hose will reach. :(
Ah, the good ol' days before Octan pushed out small mom 'n' pop businesses like Shell.
@Cody6268: the shop and carwash were a separate set. chrisaw is right. These were available at Shell stations only.
The set is pretty "meh", but the sticker set here is top notch! I used that in one of my MOCs.
@president
That's not irony.
The Ferrari could be a very loose interpretation of a 308 or Testarossa. I loved these sets as a kid and remember Shell stations fondly.
