Wow, Huwbot finds the Holy Grail of Castle sets. Right after a RSOTD featuring an epic classic Space set. You're on a roll my robotic friend! Can't believe this set had 14 Minifigures in it, amazing! One of these days, it will be mine (as in probably Bricklinked w/reproduction stickers :).

By in United States,

This is everything that a LEGO set needs to be. Enough of pieces to seem enormous to a little kid. It’s blocky like a LEGO brick, but it still comes together as a pretty elegant castle. No 1000s of bricks or weird bauble-y pieces. I remember feeling like a king when playing with this set as a kid.

I also remember how bittersweet it was when the non-brick-built horses appeared. I mean, I was excited because they were pretty cool, but even that little toddling me knew we were losing something special with the brick-built horses.

Maybe that’s why I’m not too excited about the grocery cart piece in the new 4+ Friends Supermarket.

Well. That's it. Time to close up the random sets database because it's found the best one. Mission accomplished.

In my opinion, this is one of the most iconic Lego sets--heck, I actually think it is the most iconic Lego set ever produced.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, $48 in 1981 was the equivalent of $134.68 today. Quite a bad price/piece ratio. And people complain about expensive Lego today!

By in Singapore,

I've always thought about re-doing this with gray bricks.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

No, but seriously, what's that weird thing on the horizon?

Gravatar
By in United States,

A true classic, one of the most iconic LEGO sets out there. A shame I'll probably never get my hands on it!

By in United States,

@Zordboy I think it's supposed to be a bush, they just used some weird clay to make it.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@Zordboy: It’s The Blob!!!!

@nhyone: I can’t believe I’ve never thought of this. What a good idea!

@Zordboy. Slain dragon?

By in Turkey,

I was into space sets back then. I have most of the space sets, some of the town sets, but very few castle sets. Certainly not this one. I wish I had though.

At last... The Set. I was nine when my grandmother offered me this one. But my emotions when I see it are still intact and strong. I still have almost every part and weapon, but I wish I had taken care a little more of it during my dark ages. Still complete at home now. A treasure to me.

Nice! Next "random" set: 928 Galaxy Explorer!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@dieselville. That's probably because of the two set numbers. This one is for the 6075 and the previous for the 375

This is probably the best set Lego ever made

By in United Kingdom,

My best mate had this when we were kids, i remember I wanted it so much (and still do now!)

It is classic indeed.

By in Netherlands,

I wanted this set as long as I remember. And a couple of years ago I got lucky and bought one for way less you usually pay for this set on eBay

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wait, has this been a random set before? Is huwbot set to reroll if there's a repeat?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’ve got this one listed for sale on my BrickLink but priced high because it’s on display and I don’t want to sell it. ??

In the process of putting another together and have about 1/2 the knights from random craigslist buys.

Honestly wouldn't mind if LEGO brought back magenta as a color for heraldry in LEGO castle! After all, it is a decent approximation of Purpure, one of the more common colors for real-life heraldry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purpure

While Bright Yellow is a very gaudy wall color for a "traditional" castle by today's standards, I also wouldn't mind seeing castles using wall colors a little more varied than the grey and black we see so often. Sand Green is one I've been dabbling with in some digital MOCs, particularly now that we know that 76138-1 will be introducing some great wall panel and cylinder recolors in Sand Green! But other colors like Sand Yellow (Dark Tan), Sand Blue, Dark Orange, or Medium Nougat could be fun as well!

And while I feel like the hinged walls in this set are not as strong a means of customization as the Technic pin based modular designs we've seen in other more recent castles, I wouldn't mind seeing more castles that incorporate both pins AND hinges so that you can create custom castles that don't feel quite as locked to a rectangular grid!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A little puzzled... I see hinge bricks in the frontmost walls of the castle, but nothing obvious for them to open. Were they just there for added texture, or did they have a function that the picture doesn't let on?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@BionicleJedi the set could open up via those hinges, it was built on multiple smaller green baseplates.

By in United States,

YES

All hail Daniel Krentz, designer of THE set that began my LEGO journey.

Raise your LEGO goblets in thanks for his awesomeness! This set is still bigger than me in my imagination, even now.

PS. If anyone responsible for LEGO Gear is reading this, I need upscaled LEGO Goblets in my life, please.

By in Netherlands,

This just made me place the order for the instructions. Those for 375/6075 are much cheaper than those for 375.
