Random set of the day: Police Patrol
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6600 Police Patrol, released in 1981. It's one of 15 Town sets produced that year. It contains 23 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 568 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

An oldie but a tasty.
A return to the town system! I received this one at Christmas along with the matching fire chief's car of similar make and design. Both came in very small boxes. A unique part of this vehicle at the time was the smooth white fenders; not available on many sets. I still have it upstairs packed away in its original box with instructions and the advertising leaflet of new sets available that year. Oh the memories....
OK--I'm sure he's gonna have more trouble cramming into that little car than he would a Peel.
These older; early minifig era sets in which the mini-fig couldn't actually fit are quite neat.
This was the first set with a minifig I got. My grandma bought it for me at a toy shop in Finchley.
Happy days...
What the... Are you guys over at the Brickset team SURE someone isn't having fun messing with the algorithm?
A true classic - the first Minifigure!
EDIT: Hmm... I seem to be wrong about that... Disregard!
^^^Eh, add a steering wheel and he can sit on the hood and drive to get those baddies.
For a long time I wondered why the City police car released in 2005 (kit 7236) is shaped the way it is, with that long hood and absent rear deck. I think that, as the first police car from the relaunched City theme, it's shaped that way as an homage to this set, the first police car from the initial launch of Town. The minifigures are similar too.
We don’t need no 6 wide vehicles. Give us 2 wide!
Hey Lego, I would buy this.
I have his companion 601 Fire Chief on my desk.
The original (600?)was the first modern Minifig (flexible Legs, printed face) appearing in a set if I remember correctly.
Great nostalgia, made my day...
Ha, I thought at first that this was the original set 600 from '78 but got tricked.
Yeah, one of my first ever LEGO sets. Happy memories.
Oh wait, wrong, mine was 600, the original :-)
The 6600 from '81 is the US version from the European version 600 from'78!
I got this for Christmas that year!
Along with the matching 602 Fire Chief’s car and 606 Ambulance - Absolute classics!
ORIGINAL!
My nephew has all my old 1970’s LEGO, including this one. He mixes them up with the new sets without a second thought which is very cute. They’re probably worth a fortune but I’d rather he had em to play with.
Is it just me, or does the face look a bit different?
The start of Town and minifigures.
At least the set number 600 version from 1978.
It's fair to say that this rerelease of 600 gets more love than the 4600 reimagining, and the set numbers suggest that there was supposed to be a callback there.
Addendum to my above post: this seems to be a reissue of the first set that had a Minifigure. So I guess I was half-right?
I still think someone's been pulling some strings within the servers lately...
This was one of my last sets of "regular" lego . I switched to technic the year before.
Classic!
@julesvincent.. The only purpose of this comment is to high five your username.
I want to say I had this one as a kid as it looks quite familiar to me. I'm not so sure though. It's great seeing all these classics in the random dailies.
