Random set of the day: Beach Cruisers
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6734 Beach Cruisers, released in 2002. It's one of 10 Island Xtreme Stunts sets produced that year. It contains 53 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$7/£4.99.
It's owned by 1196 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

I skipped this one because I wasn't interested in the land windsurfer (apparently, those exist), and I already had a skateboarding Pepper in 6738-1. And I got my Snap from 6735-1, along with the Brickster.
According to BrickLink, those windsurfer wheels are in fact trans-neon orange. That's kinda mind-blowing. They (still) look solid orange on the box art.
Extreme Island was another one of those early 00s themes that I found quite charming, because while it was still Lego (and most of them slotted in neatly into pre-existing Lego themes like City or Space), it was something different and quite interesting. I loved the colours, I loved the beach-holiday/extreme-sports angle, there were some cool new pieces ... to say nothing of an actual narrative, with named and identifiable characters.
I never did buy this guy, but I picked up the next three (slightly larger) sets.
That kid has some serious skills to be skateboarding on sand.
i wish they had an island theme like this again
^^haha I thought the same thing. I never did see any skateboard that could go anywhere fast on sand. That fancy rig next to it doesn’t seem like it could be racing along the shores either, but that’s just me.
Good way to get Pepper Roni.
Another Island Xtreme set! These are quite interesting, and not something LEGO will likely make anytime soon
This looks like a nice action set. But I must say, I hate that hair piece.
I never realised that the trans-orange wheels were exclusive to this set before Nexo-Knights came, quite interesting^^
I also like how Pepper's neck bracket looks loosely like his backpack from LEGO Island 2 (2001). I wonder if this was intentional when they designed the part in the first place or just a lucky conincidence.
It's also a bit odd that they intentionally redesigned Snap Lockitt (the character actually debuted in the first Island game from 1997 as a Boat Racing rival). In his original appearance he was made entirely from existing Town elements ( https://brickset.com/minifigs/par030/surfboard-on-ocean-yellow-legs-blue-cap just with the black sunglasses instead of the mustache). He later got the black crewcut wig in Island 2 (which was originally designed specifically for Dash Jsutice from Alpha Team).
Another rarely known fact about Islands X-Treme Stunts is that most of it's buildings contained some pieces in the rare Light Yellow color (ID 03).
Also considering it's origin in LEGO Island 1 this is actually more of a Town spin-off series like RES-Q or X-Treme Team rather than something like Racers or Sports in my opinion :)
I'm pretty sure this was the first Lego set I ever got.
Ah, my childhood's favourite game, Lego Island 2. I played that game over and over again. I can still hear Pepper Roni shout "I got one!" every time he indeed 'got one'. And let me tell you, he got a lot of 'ones'.
