Lego released some fantastic sets in their various Sports-themed lines in the early 00s.
This wasn't one of those.
These things are almost as weird as Clickets. Almost.
This line was weird, sure, but also super fun! It had the construction novelty and function of Bionices and the never-works-perfectly-but-fantastic-fun of the soccer sets!
Canadian Matoran
Legos?
I have never understood these.
^No. LEGO.
What a disappointment compared to yesterday's RSOTD.
Out of sheer curiosity of what the heck even came in this set, I found out that the package was a Canister that DOUBLED as a WATER BOTTLE???
Lego was really something else back then.
If LEGO had done this with Minifigures, and in a way similar to soccer and NBA basketball, I feel it would have been a good theme. Yet, we ended up with Bionicle dropouts.
Playmobil did it in a similar way, using Klickys, and it's done quite well.
I actually kinda like these Hokey Guys... They are kinda fun. They come with a lot of useful new parts and recolors, and have a pretty cool function. Also the Canister they came in can also be used as a water bottle, which I personally find to be pretty genious.
I would get a few of those Hokey Guys eventually, since they are quite cheap on Bricklink.
Oh dear, it’s those guys that hit the puck with a crotch protrusion
That mask can fit on a Bionicle head.
I remember so many wierd products by Lego. Even in Technic line there were some bizarre sets. We may see them in the future, you'll know what I mean...
And they call this set “Ultimate Collector’s Series?!”
These sets had some interesting Technic parts that are exclusive to the series.
Ah, the hockey players with sticks popping out of their torso
Maybe it's just that we don't understand art? *pensive emoji*
Saw the title in my feed and instantly knew what this set was before opening the article. Nice.
I don't regret passing on these sets, I guess, but I really wanted to collect them at the time.
^ They're still pretty cheap, on the second-hand market, if you're still needing to scratch that itch?
I never bought any of the Racers sets, when they first came out, but after a few popped up thanks to Huwbot, I bought some from Bricklink, and actually, I really quite like them.
Another fine example of the marvelous ingenuity that Lego had in the early 2000s.
@cody6268: They did, the following year: 3578-1 and 3579-1 .
That goalie looks like he escaped from the slammer.
