I love Classic Space. Best theme by far, Lego should resurrect Classic Space

CLASSIC SPACE! And a cracking good one, too.

Oh man...one of my all-time favorites!

I remember as a kid being a little bit disappointed in how open the back of the cruiser was, because I didn't realize the scooter drove into the back and locked into place. I got over it. Swooshable memories! Geeeez I would spend a fortune on Classic Space revival stuff!!

I got 5 of thes space sets for $3 at a yard sale including Beta I command base and rocket transporter. I did have to figure out what sets they were. Look great on the shelf

Those transparent plates are great.

If I ever got this set new I would sell it because Brickset says it’s worth $270. Imagine the Star Wars potential...

By in United States,

I've been playing the Classic Space map in LEGO Worlds (pretty much the only reason I still play the game; the changes they made there towards the end of development; by making it less of a sandbox game ruined it), and I recognize this ship from that map.

Nice set!

Ah, now there’s a beautiful, classic set. I know people say we should move forward and not look to the past, but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Lego should release just one classic set every year (like they do with the modulars) and use the original packaging and start with a classic Space set. If the sales are terrible then stop the releases, but I’m guessing there will be enough AFOLs interested to make it worthwhile.

A neat prototype of today's $30 spaceship price point, but with yesterday's average part weight and correspondingly smaller part count for the same mass and volume of stuff. Unlike the 1979 wave, this one doesn't get as much love in AFOL remakes, but I bet Lego could make a really good modern version for $30 and ~300 parts.

Ahhh! My first LEGO set. I got this one from a bargain bin at a grocery store, broken box, but complete. I still have it, directions and all, well except for that broken box. Still one of my very favorites. Classic Space!!

By in Canada,

The only set that I remember having when I was a kid back in Colombia. Lego was very expensive there (still is) and with 4 kids my parents usually resorted to other brands when buying toys for us. I found it on eBay last year, when I finished building it I swear to God for a few moments I felt like I was a kid all over again. This set will always have a special place in my heart.

By in Turkey,

I have this set since 1982. I rebuilt it many many times. I'm so very lucky that it is still complete. It was my favorite fighter. Wow, in couple of years it will be 40 years old...

Can the white thing slot into the blue plane or something?

By in United States,

Love this one! This is one of the very first things I bought as an adult collector after coming out of my dark ages. Must have been '97 or so, in ebay's infancy.
Hey, Lego, take one from Transformers' playbook: do some re-issues in original packaging already! Heck, there are some I'd rebuy even though I already still own them from childhood!

By in Hungary,

Probably one of the more innovative designs in terms of the "gimmick".

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I have to say, I love Classic Space but the Color scheme of this set is a bit too White in my opinion. Some more Grey like 6929 would be favorable.

By in Hungary,

I just want to point out the "Fun Flamingo Frames 'n' More" set in the main page, on the right (sets update).
kfr: How did you do that "@ in blue" thingy with another user's name?

Ah yes, the nostalgia...

@Yooha: I just typed it in that way and the site will convert it into a link automatically ;) There might be smarter ways of doing this

By in Netherlands,

Excellent Classic Space set IMO! And a swooshable one! I always regarded this ship as the successor to the great LL 918
I have it on display at the moment, fully restored to its original glory using authentic parts and with all printed parts and CS logos in pristine condition.

Some little fun facts:
-the small shuttle that can insert and lock into the back of the main spaceship is build around the second version of the Classic Town 4-wide vehicle chassis.
-the shape of mentioned car chassis is actually functionally used to hold the front of the small shuttle in place into the main ship when lifting it from the ground!
-1982 was the year LEGO introduced the 1x3 33 degree slope and 1x3 33 degree inverted slope and this set was the first to include these slopes in blue (4x) plus 4 inverted ones; 2 in blue and 2 in white.
-the Classic Space logo on the 6x3 33 degree slope piece (front of the main ship’s cockpit) is printed smaller in size than it has been printed on the same slopes in the earlier CS sets. And it is one of a kind!
-the Cosmic Cruiser also introduced a 1x2 brick in old light grey, printed with a black grill pattern. In fact TLC only released 3 sets that include this part, all being Classic Space sets.
-when locked into place, the big black thruster piece on the smaller shuttle becomes the main engine for the main ship as well.
-the main ship cannot be ‘piloted’ (at least not by a minifigure, perhaps by remote?) without the smaller shuttle being inserted.
-this set was only the second CS set (and second LEGO set in general) to include wing pieces (8x4 wedge plates) in white. The first set being CS set 6870 which came one year earlier. It was only in 1990 when these white wings first appeared in a Classic Town set and the last use of these wedge plates in white (with underside stud notch) was in a mini SW set in 2004.
-the Cosmic Cruiser was also the first set (and only one in 1982 with 1986’s CS set 6783 being second) to include a hinged 4x4 roof plate in transparent blue.

Anyone else care to add something I missed?

(What do you mean, ‘Classic Space nerd’?!) :-D

By in United States,

This was one Classic Space set that I delayed buying for years. It's way too gimmicky to fit in well with the rest of the theme; I really like the way the ship looks, but the gimmick is too much. There are other CS sets with similar "vehicle within a vehicle" designs but this one is too far outside of reality for my tastes. (And yes I know I'm talking about a kid's toy here...but you can't convince me that this set is better than Galaxy Explorer, X-1 Patrol Craft, or Starfleet Voyager.)

^^ I love 918 and have mine on display, too! I also own this set though not currently assembled or on display.

By in Germany,

Probably one of the best classic space sets. Fantastic! Still have it, still love it.

By in United States,

I had this as a kid. I built and took it apart so many times I was able to build it up from memory.
