By in United States,

What's the yellow barrel-like thing supposed to represent?

No stickers? No license? And not even app-controlled? Awesome set.

Cute early attempt at a ballista before the age of spring loaded shooters

it was a clever little build - get multiple and you have a proper army!

Great set! I don’t have the original but do have the 2016 re-issue.

@OhioBricker , Doubt it’s a powder keg. While historically there was a temporal overlap between siege crossbows and gunpowder, the latter played no part in the projectile’s propulsion. And I don’t think it’s supposed to be a barrel that is launched: it would be too heavy.

@Norikins , My guess is that it’s a coil of rope used either as part of the torsion mechanism to draw the crossbow or as a supply of rope to attach to a bolt (projectile) similar to a harpax.

By in France,

Cool little set, I still have it, and loved playing with it as a kid! I always imagined the yellow and black barrel/keg being filled with oil. The play scenario for my minifigs was: they would dip the spear points in the oil, and light them just before firing them with the giant crossbow in order to try to set fire to the castle / buildings / other siege weapons etc. they attacked.

Castle awesome. This set probably gave a lot of kids huge amount of playtime thanks to the figures and the spears, but I find the cart to be really lackluster.

My first castle set when I was a kid. Perfect set for the time being...

By in Spain,

Good set, just as the whole castle theme. Am I the only one who tweaked it with a rubber band so I could shoot the projectiles?
