Today's random set is 4586 Stunt Race Track, released in 2002. It's one of 27 Racers sets produced that year. It contains 168 pieces, and its retail price was US$20/£14.99.

Yes! This is the one I owned. Wish I had one of the complete circuit sets instead, but this was fun while it lasted. Funnily I only have the track intact; I'm not sure if I ended up parting out the car.
I had this one, too! The track was really cool, and the functions were neat when they worked! I wish I had a perfect way to re-use the road pieces...
For all that this looks like someone trying to make lego scalextric out of spare parts, I do like the way they’ve suspended that safety net
