Review: 71026 DC Super Heroes Collectable Minifigures (Part 1)

Detective Comics commenced during 1937 and this historic series has introduced an incredible range of popular characters. Many such heroes and villains are available already and 71026 DC Super Heroes Collectable Minifigures improves that selection even further.

Various entirely new characters are found here alongside exclusive versions of celebrated figures who have appeared previously, including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman! These minifigures look wonderful and our review features two parts, focusing first upon Mister Miracle, Sinestro and Cheetah, among others.

Box Distribution

Each box contains sixty minifigures which are distributed as follows:

  • 3 - Mister Miracle
  • 4 - Wonder Woman
  • 5 - Aquaman
  • 4 - Stargirl
  • 3 - Sinestro
  • 4 - Cheetah
  • 4 - Superman
  • 4 - Green Lantern
  • 3 - Cyborg
  • 3 - Batman
  • 3 - Huntress
  • 4 - Metamorpho
  • 5 - Joker
  • 3 - Bumblebee
  • 5 - The Flash
  • 3 - Bat-Mite

Minifigures

Collectable Minifigures provide an opportunity for LEGO to create some relatively obscure characters and Mister Miracle is an impressive example. This minifigure certainly stands out within the selection, featuring bright red, yellow and green tones which look lovely and accurately recreate his appearance from the comics. I am particularly satisfied with the attractive cape and its prominent collar.

The minifigure incorporates dual-moulded arms and legs. These have been employed to marvellous effect and the printing across the front of the legs looks especially interesting, softening the transition between red and bright green plastic. Similar detail covers the torso and I love the angular cape clasp, taking inspiration from the hero's 1971 design.

Mister Miracle is perhaps best known for his astonishing escapology skills, although his various other abilities include immortality and superhuman physical attributes. This minifigure is therefore equipped with handcuffs and a light bluish grey chain. The chain wraps perfectly around the minifigure and may be held in each hand, further distinguishing Mister Miracle from other characters in this range.

Each minifigure is accompanied by black display stands, as usual. However, this series also provides black 1x2 jumper plates and new trans-clear elements, allowing you to pose the minifigures as though they are flying or leaping through the air. These pieces are remarkably versatile, connecting to various points on the legs or clipping into the hands and I believe they could prove useful elsewhere.

Wonder Woman was introduced during 1941 and has subsequently become one of the most popular DC heroes. This minifigure reflects her original appearance, featuring an unusual eagle symbol on the torso. I appreciate this unique design and the blue skirt, which is decorated with stars, looks wonderful too. Both components exhibit fantastic attention to subtle details from the early comics.

However, the hair component returns from past Wonder Woman minifigures and could probably have been improved. The tiara looks fairly accurate but the hair style bears little resemblance to her classic design. Producing an entirely new element might not have been practical though, in which case I think re-using this component is an appropriate compromise.

Two expressions decorate the double-sided head and metallic silver bracelets are printed on Wonder Woman's wrists. They look superb and seem especially important here because their ability to deflect bullets is shown on the cover of Sensation Comics #1. Wonder Woman also carries her mighty Lasso of Truth which was created for this character in 6862 Superman vs. Power Armour Lex.

Multiple versions of Aquaman have been produced recently, taking inspiration from modern comics, the DC movies and his traditional orange and green design. This minifigure is accordingly distinctive, featuring the golden harpoon that replaced Arthur Curry's left hand during the 1990s. I am extremely satisfied with this element and the metallic silver armour protecting his right arm looks magnificent.

While those details are definitely appealing, my favourite aspect of this minifigure are its printed legs. The green scales look marvellous and this decoration continues onto both sides of the dual-moulded legs. The head is impressive too, although I am surprised to see the part from 76116 Batman Batsub and the Underwater Clash returning here because Collectable Minifigures usually feature new heads.

Aquaman is famously capable of communicating with underwater creatures, hence an exclusive fish accompanies the Atlantean. The fish has appeared in several interesting colours during recent years but spring yellowish green is new and looks nice. This image also shows the aforementioned printing on the side of Aquaman's legs, completing a great rendition of the character.

Contrasting with characters such as Aquaman or Wonder Woman, Stargirl has not appeared in past DC Super Heroes sets. This minifigure looks brilliant though, wearing accurate attire when compared with the comics. I like the blue domino mask printed on both sides of her head and these expressions are absolutely perfect for Courtney Whitmore, displaying metallic silver braces on the reverse.

The blonde hair piece leaves something to be desired because Stargirl is traditionally portrayed with straight hair but her attire looks excellent. Three white stars decorate the sleeves while another large star is fixed to her chest, closely resembling the source material. The vital Cosmic Convertor belt and dual-moulded legs are equally authentic and the matching red gloves look splendid too.

Stargirl's abilities, which include enhanced strength and flight, are enabled by the Cosmic Convertor belt and her Cosmic Staff. This golden accessory comprises a 4L bar and an attractive trans-orange component with some glittery content. Its shape corresponds with the comics and I really appreciate this attempt to maintain absolute authenticity rather than choosing the closest existing part.

Despite being Green Lantern's arch nemesis, Sinestro has only previously appeared in 76025 Green Lantern vs. Sinestro. This minifigure looks quite different to its predecessor, taking inspiration from the villain's original appearance where his attire was blue and black. The resulting design seems relatively simple but reflects the comic, featuring an angular design around the neck and blue wrist details.

Pink is undoubtedly an appropriate skin tone for Sinestro and the double-sided head looks excellent, featuring two different smiles and arched eyebrows, along with the obligatory moustache. However, I am less satisfied with the black hair piece which fails to replicate Sinestro's enlarged cranium and his pointed ears. A new element would have been ideal.

Sinestro has wielded the Yellow Power Ring since his second appearance and that infamous weapon makes great use of a printed 1x1 round tile. The ring looks perfect when attached to his hand and may also be connected to the accompanying power battery which compares favourably with the comics and includes stud attachment points on either side.

Cheetah is among Wonder Woman's most renowned opponents and this depiction of the character is perfect to accompany the aforementioned Amazonian minifigure. Priscilla Rich appeared in several of Wonder Woman's earliest comics, wearing her distinctive costume which features an intricate spotted pattern so contrasts dramatically with the figure from 76097 Lex Luthor Mech Takedown.

Claws decorate the villainess' feet but they are not visible on her hands, unfortunately. However, this double-sided head looks superb, capturing Priscilla's unpleasant personality through a cruel smile on one side and an angry expression on the other. The headgear component appears similarly authentic when compared with the Golden Age comics.

Jealousy inspired Cheetah's early crimes but money has also become an important incentive for this character, hence the minifigure carries an exclusive green sack. I love the stereotypical dollar symbol which is printed on one side and can envisage this accessory being used in future City sets, given the frequency of bank robberies in LEGO City!

DC Collectable Minifigures would not be complete without Superman and this minifigure is brand new, borrowing design features from the Rebirth comic series. The red hips which appear on the majority of Superman figures are therefore absent here and the Man of Steel instead wears an attractive belt with striped boots and his traditional red cape.

Superman's muscles seem particularly defined here but the remainder of this minifigure is reasonably familiar. The black hair piece has appeared on many occasions and the double-sided head resembles several which have been produced before, albeit now featuring an exceptionally angry alternative face that represents the hero's powerful heat vision. This could also depict an evil Superman.

While this minifigure has been executed nicely, similar renditions of Superman are already available. The accompanying 2x2 newspaper tile is unique though, featuring the famous 'Caped Wonder Stuns City' headline which appeared during the 1978 Superman movie. The photo underneath seems more reminiscent of Superman Returns and I appreciate how Superman stands out, even in this tiny image.

Numerous characters have occupied the role of Green Lantern and Simon Baz is among the more recent incarnations. His green and black attire looks fantastic here and resembles other members of the Green Lantern Corps, although Simon also wears an unusual mask to conceal his identity, unlike other Green Lanterns who sometimes sport domino masks.

Dual-moulded arms and legs have been employed to excellent effect here, forming short sleeves and boots. Furthermore, the lime green bands which surround bright green areas of the suit and adorn the mask are attractive and I like the printed shoulders. Ideally, they would have extended further to match the torso design but this remains an enjoyable minifigure.

Corresponding with Sinestro, Simon Baz includes another power battery and his printed Power Ring which are bright green and trans-bright green, respectively. These accessories reflect Simon's heroic alignment and the pack contains spare pieces to build another Power Ring, enabling you to complete one of the existing Green Lantern minifigures from previous DC Super Heroes sets.

Overall

The expansive DC universe features myriad fun characters and 71026 DC Super Heroes Collectable Minifigures provides an opportunity to include some interesting examples. While certain selections for the range are slightly odd, the individual quality of these minifigures is absolutely tremendous, making brilliant use of dual-moulded elements and more extensive printed designs than ever before!

Mister Miracle with his comic goofy grin is probably my favorite transition from page to minifigure form. It's just the right amount of cheese for the medium.

By in Germany,

I love those. I hope there are more series after this one.

By in United States,

Great review, thanks! Are they still expected to be $4.99 each?

By in United Kingdom,

Thanks for getting this review out so quick!

I'm quite looking forward to seeing the extent to which Jang loses his shizzle over the skintone printing on Wonder Woman...

By in United States,

I love the idea of this series. Some are awesome. Jay Garrick flash is amazing. However... WORST Superman ever. Immediately I can think of 3 other superman choices that would be WAY better: Solar Suit Superman, Actions Comics 1, Kingdom Come.

Green Lantern- cool accessories! Bad character choice. No Guy Gardner? No Kyle Raynor?

Also, only 3 Batman per box??

I'm totally buying these, but some of the choices are really questionable.

By in United States,

They look better than expected. Still unsure how many I'll actually get at the new price. If it was the old price is but the whole set. Have to be smarter going forward.

By in Netherlands,

I think i'll be getting a good chunk of this set, if not all. Would it be possible to show a photo of the new trans-clear elements that clip to the legs or arms? I'm finding it hard to picture how they'd work.

By in United States,

I love all of these. Seeing Mr. Miracle in minifigure form is incredible, and having Simon Baz come with extra lantern ring pieces is so smart. However I do believe that Superman should have been in his 1938 costume, but seeing him jot appear in that makes me believe that LEGO might be planning a second series

All I can say is it's about time they made Rings for the Lanterns, do these Minifigures include spare tiles? It'd make it easier to provide rings for the older Minifigures in sets that didn't get any such accessories. Makes buying multiples worth it also for the power batteries.

By in United Kingdom,

In all honestly what a boring series. Like there are one to two decent characters but no fantastic ones in the series.

Seconded. I think I know how they work but would very much appreciate a dedicated picture or two to be sure. I reckon it’s similar to the ring holder used by Sinestro and Green Lantern but with an extended bar that’s angled. Am I right?

By in United States,

This review is exceptionally well researched and beautifully presented. The minifigures have some exciting details, I think some of them seem to be based on some artists particular takes. Not style as much as design aesthetic. I love em!

By in United Kingdom,

As a fan of cheetahs, I feel obligated to point out that the character Cheetah is wearing leopard spots, not cheetah spots... xD

.
In any case: these are neat! They hold little relevance to me personally; but still, I'm happy for those who are pleased to see them! (My biggest interest in DC is the 2003 Teen Titans animated series; so based on that, I'm most looking forward to see what you have to say about Bumblebee in the second part ^^)

As always, thanks for the effort put into these reviews; you make them entertaining and informative even for someone who isn't familiar with the relevant fandom ^^

By in United States,

They really need to make a Samurai fig to complete the classic super friends from lego batman movie series. If these really are 5 dollars, expect to see piles of them at half price in a few months. I know I'm not buying any.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

There are some cool looking figures among these. Otoh I know hardly anything of the source material so have zero personal connection to those characters. (Fittingly my favorite piece from this series is the bright yellowish green fish.)
That coupled with the absurd RRP makes this series an easy pass for me. Might perhaps get a few near the end of the run when they inevitably get reduced again to 1.99, but that's about it.
But I am happy for those who have a love for these characters and can now get them for their collection.
I would love a Red Dwarf CMF series but that's about as realistic as white Christmas over here.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is there really only 2 ring tiles from the Green Lantern figure??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These are pretty well done figs. Still messing up with skin colour printing though. Mister Miracle and Cheetah are particularly impressive with the coverage of the prints and the use of dual moulding on the former.
I'm not an Aquaman fan but he is one of the more appealing figs to me. One of the less comic book-y looking designs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I need the accessories but not the minifigs. They don't really appeal to me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If they do make a second series, I would love to see a few characters from the DC tv shows appear, like Speedy, Frost, Constantine, White Canary etc

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@tspike - I do not actually know the price for certain but am inclined to believe the rumours about the price increasing to $4.99.

@donutboy and @Zander - I am intending publish an entire article dedicated to the trans-clear display stand elements, which are very interesting, but have taken another photo here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brickset/49188956518/in/photostream/

@BionicleJedi - Cheetah is not necessarily known for her intelligence, particularly when the role is occupied by Priscilla Rich!

@thatStrutVector - Sinestro and Simon Baz each contain two 1x1 round tiles that represent their Power Rings. One is intended as the spare, in each case.

By in United States,

Quite happy to see a Rebirth variant of Superman available! The underwear on the outside of the costumes in recent sets has been ridiculous and outdated, particularly since LEGO has been focusing on the New 52 and DC Rebirth since 2015 with their character designs. While a first appearance of Superman figure would be nice, the existing design is rather similar, and has appeared many times, making the figure quite easily acquired.

By in Spain,

As a CMF collector, I will only buy one of each to maintain my collection complete. I am sorry, I am not a DC Comics fan... :-(

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I was gonna get them all already :) ...but Great review! They look even better in your photos.

Wish it went on sale this weekend for Double VIP points :/

The addition of the 2x1 jumper plate and the trans clear element for posing is excellent!! Very usable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that TDKR Joker in the back? Looks like he's holding cotton candy from the fair scene at the end.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The Wonder Woman figure puzzles me. Lego managed to print skin tone onto the blue legs that looks just fine, but the print on the red torso looks as bad as always.

AFOLs are atypical though. My guess is the vast majority of CMFs are bought by kids and by non-FOL adults buying for kids (parents, grandparents etc). They only buy a small number each. So for them, an increase in price of $1 per CMF isn’t a deterrent.

If there are any CMFs of this series being discounted in due course because they are unsold, it will be because of the obscure/unpopular characters, not because of the price.

Thank you @CapnRex101 . Appreciated.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I don't know where the speculation of the price increase started, since here in Canada the prices for these are the same as they've always been for licensed minifigure series.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I must have them all! And how'd you get these already? Lol.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I honestly don't like the set... I honestly have no ''must want'' the only interesting part are those new pieces. Green Lantern is probably the only one in maybe. I might just don't like the retro/DC.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great to see no '2s' in the distribution.

A price increase is going to make me wait for a discount, but I'm always surprised to see the price of other brands of blind bag so maybe there is a market at that price!

By in Poland,

ANd I thought Simpsons were the worst series... Silly me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd be excited about Mr. Miracle, but I already have a bag full of Bart Simpsons that I bought for the red short sleeved arms. That _is_ very surprising about Aquaman. I feel like someone pointed out reused deco to me once before, but I can't even begin to recall what it might have been. At least Sinestro got a completely new set of faces. Stargirl is an easy fix, given the variety of blonde hair options, but the included hairstyle isn't particularly curvy to begin with. Cheetah gives me hope that they might someday complete the Legion of Doom lineup...and also wondering if they might end up using that hat for a Catwoman variant someday. But mostly I want a pile of those green money sacks! It's about time they start making alternate versions of Superman that are readily available *coughBlackSuitSupermancough*, but Golden Age seems like a better choice for CMF since it's unlikely they'd do the design justice in a regular set. I have no idea who Simon Baz even is, but the outfit at least provides more options for GLC members.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think we can all agree that Lego will be doing a second set of these (probably more) lets hope they do Marvel as well, there are a load of characters I'd love to get the comic accurate version of instead of the movie version.
That said DC set 2 needs to have:-

Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
Booster Gold
Impulse
Green Lantern (Alan Scott)
Saturn Girl
Orion
DaSaad
Bizzaro
Black Adam
Parasite
Mirror Master
Steel
Aqua Lad (Young Justice)

By in United Kingdom,

I don't know why people keep going on about a yearly price increase... here in the UK they've been £2.99 everywhere, despite this ' yearly price increase' since 2016.

Really got to wonder who decides the box distribution though.... the 60 per box limit is kinda stupid when for a 16 character series, you could get 5 of each per box if you upped the box size to 80. And that'd still work for 20 character series at 4 per box of each. I mean either way, your gonna be left with a bunch of non sellers people don't want, so why create false scarcity of the popular characters like the classic Batman?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ Most buyers (kids and non-FOL adults buying for kids) will do so blind and aren’t completionists. LEGO also has to consider the different production costs of each minifigure.

Not much of a DC fan here, but many of these accessories are definitely must haves. Can't wait to get my hands on a few of those clear connector/pose pieces and create a falling water effect for my downtown fountain!

By in Canada,

So when were these supposed to go on sale? I ask because I think someone at Toys R Us screwed up (I'm in Ontario, Canada)- I was there last night and they had two boxes out for sale- price was $4.94 (Cdn, obviously). So of course I picked out 6 figures- Batman, Superman, Huntress, Wonder Woman, Flash and Bat-mite. I've only opened 2 (Bat-mite & Huntress), as hubby took the other 4 to put in my Xmas stocking. The new plates are pretty cool- but do not really work with Bat-mite as his little legs don't move, so he just looks really awkward- so I'm not using it for him. Looking forward to getting entire set (except perhaps Sinestro- too similar to one I already have).

Gravatar
By in Canada,

$4.99 US is going to be like, what, $6.50 CAD? Yikes.

However, I must have these.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So here's a weird thought...are we sure there's an extra tile with Simon Baz and Sinestro, or did they intend for one tile to go on the lantern and the other on the hand accessory?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@PurpleDave - I did consider that but only one tile is shown on the leaflet in each case. Of course, you can choose to use them both on the ring and power battery.

Gravatar

The first 2 collector minifigure series sold for $1.99 each in the U.S. Sad to see how much the price has increased in 9 years.

@JDC:
And the quality has gone up. First they switched to a better plastic (still not regular LEGO ABS, but all Chinese-made parts have to use plastic sourced in China, and they didn't want to hand over their proprietary formula to basically all of China). Now, since the Harry Potter wave, they've been making the parts world-wide rather than exclusively in China.
