Random set of the day: Transportation
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 4407 Transportation, released in 2004. It's one of 48 Creator sets produced that year. It contains 301 pieces, and its retail price was US$20/£14.99.
It's owned by 204 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Is this the beginning of Huwbot's Basic Brick Creator Kick?
^Nah, watch him go to Bionicle or SW again tomorrow.
Is that a Lemming with a jackhammer?
For parts, I'd definitely be picking up this set if I saw it on the store pegs today. Lots of pretty nice stuff in it.
There doesn’t appear to be a single instance of transportation on the entire box. Construction and cargo hauling, but not transportation.

These brick sets are to me, quintessentially what LEGO is. They provide the stuff, you build what you want. In the pre-Bricklink days, I bought loads of 'em. Unfortunately, even City's becoming too closed-ended, now being as it is based on a (pretty lame) TV show with the past couple waves of sets.
@Mr__Thrawn you don’t regularly ride down Main Street in construction vehicles for transportation around town?
@Mr__Thrawn The boat on the left appears to be some kind of cruiser/luxury yacht for transporting people, and I'd argue the freighter on the right is for "transporting" goods (the term "transport" doesn't just apply to people.) The top of the image also has a few helicopter parts.
This was right around the time I got sick of those particular wheels that were pervasive across Make & Create through the years — I had enough from a single 4100 which I still love to this day, so I was not interested in this set. However, I wanted 4406 Buildings from the same wave so bad.
And then there's the same year's Designer Set 4886 Building Bonanza...
@Mr__Thrawn: Yeah it's weird, because the description of this set in my 2004 catalog talks about vehicles in general, and says nothing about transportation specifically... and it's still called Transportation.
Oh. This was I believe my second set ever, after 7239. The "instructions" are weird, instructions for some models you can build and pictures of other things possible to build. As you can see from the image, the entire booklet was pictures like that, which looked like Salvador Dali paintings crossed with Minecraft. And some of the ideas were nightmarish builds of people with that white skin, the jackhammer guy is one of the least monstrous people from the uncanny-valley. So I'm nostalgic for this set, but had no good memories of it.
Those yellow crane parts are still used for machinery in 2020 sets (City) , so still useful.
Also this set doesn't have like 20-30 colors like current Classic boxes.
