Review: 76141 Thanos Mech

Thanos' exceptional abilities generally preclude the requirement for vehicles, other than mighty spacecraft and the classic Thanos-copter. 76141 Thanos Mech looks accordingly unusual but the Mad Titan is renowned for his physical strength and remarkable size.

Such qualities are definitely represented by this menacing mech and I love the immense Infinity Gauntlet which covers its left hand. Moreover, the colour scheme of dark blue and gold looks marvellous and this set contains an exclusive Thanos minifigure which may prove interesting.

Minifigure

Previous versions of Thanos have been bigfigs which seems appropriate given his considerable size. However, this minifigure looks splendid in my opinion. The helmet has not been available in pearl gold before and loosely resembles certain versions of the character, although this minifigure seems generic. Furthermore, I appreciate his lavender head and fittingly furious facial expression!

The wrinkles across Thanos' chin are also present and that printed detail continues on the torso and legs. Dark blue and metallic gold are combined to excellent effect here, although greater consistency between pearl and metallic shades would have been welcome. Nevertheless, the sand blue highlights are absolutely perfect so I am pleased with this minifigure.

The Completed Model

Enormous strength is certainly valued by Thanos and this mech looks suitably imposing, measuring 12cm in height. The dark blue and gold colour scheme corresponds with the minifigure and I like the bulky limbs which give the impression of suitable power. Moreover, I think this mech looks distinctive, despite sharing construction techniques with 76140 Iron Man Mech and 76146 Spider-Man Mech.

Numerous small ball joints are positioned across this model, permitting extensive articulation. I am particularly satisfied with the knees and double shoulder joints which provide magnificent versatility. The rotating waist is useful too. However, the most distinctive feature of the mech is undoubtedly its articulated fingers, especially on the Infinity Gauntlet.

While the gauntlet is traditionally worn by Thanos, connecting this famed accessory to his mech has enabled the designer to include outstanding detail. The colour combination of pearl gold and metallic gold looks great and all six Infinity Stones are present. These are situated to reflect Avengers: Infinity War but could be arranged for comic accuracy if you wish. Each digit includes two hinges which offer various options for display, although the hand cannot close to create a fist which is disappointing.

This model bears some resemblance to the NEXO Knights Battle Suits that were introduced during 2017, integrating the chest armour element from those sets. Its angular shape corresponds with both shoulders and I like the printed 2x3 pentagonal tile at its centre. Unfortunately, stickers are required to create the matching designs on the arms and legs, although the result looks nice.

Hinges connect this armour component to the waist, allowing it to open. There is plenty of room for Thanos to stand inside but his connection to the 1x2 foot plate feels comparatively insecure and the aforementioned 2x3 pentagonal tile does restrict motion of the chest armour. However, the minifigure remains easy to position and looks superb in combination with the mech.

Detail is definitely focused across the front of Thanos' mech so the reverse appears relatively bland. Certain aspects of its colour scheme remain intact but the black pieces seem out of place. The large boots are brilliant though, recalling many depictions of Thanos who wear similar boots during comics, video games and the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Overall

Despite its unusual subject matter, 76141 Thanos Mech seems surprisingly impressive. This model definitely captures the imposing appearance of Thanos and enlarging the Infinity Gauntlet to include additional detail is ingenious, particularly since its design has been executed rather well. I appreciate the extensive articulation too, encompassing the Infinity Gauntlet and this entire figure.

Furthermore, the exclusive Thanos minifigure features outstanding detail. Bigfigs are probably more accurately representative of this character but the minifigure is interesting and could prove useful for other Marvel creations where bigfigs might be unsuitable. The set costs £8.99 or $9.99 which seems reasonable in my opinion, hence I think 76141 Thanos Mech is worthy of consideration.

I happen to like this more than the bigfigs they've made of Thanos in the past. I think it has to do with playability and pose-ability

Make me a Thanos-copter, Lego. Then you can have my money.

By in Hungary,

I like this 10$ mech range a lot. You can definitely use this one as a bigfig stand-in.

A nice $10 parts pack for my son who loves the shiny gold and pearl gold elements.

These are currently in B&M UK at the minute for £8.99 I'd just buy it for the minifig & use the parts to build his throne or some other vehicle...
The iron man one is probably the best out the 3!!

By in France,

nice minifig but the Mech is awful.....but at under a tenner it's great for the little ones.

It's great. I'm not the target audience and I won't be buying it, but it's humorous and should be a fun small set for children.

By in Puerto Rico,

Lovely, can the gauntlet be placed on Iron Man mech?

Missed opportunity to include a recreation photo of the "I am Iron Man" scene with both the mechs :(

Yeah, I feel like this is an excellent alternative for anyone who balked at buying a set just for the bigfig... or the infinity stones, come to think of it.

These Mech sets got roasted on here when they were announced. There's a decidedly different reaction today.

^ See, I still don't like them.

I loved that range of mecha when it came out for Nexo Knights. And for this one, well, I like the details that they actually included a brick-built infinity gauntlet ... but I'm still not a fan of the mecha. They just seem (to me) to be a bit pointless and cash-grabby. Iron Man has a mecha, well, he's got two (War Machine had a matching one) and I already bought both of them. Spidey got a mecha last year, and why does Thanos need a 20 foot tall robot?

By in Netherlands,

I love the mech, not the license.

By in United Kingdom,

Did I miss the bit in the films where Thanos loses a finger on his right hand...?

By in Netherlands,

These are even uglier than the SW buildable figures.

Honestly, I think it looks terrible.
But then I saw the price. €9,99? That changes the build from terrible to just perfect. It has a ton of playability and poseablility. It's also recognizable what it is. So for that price I don't think anyone will ever complain. There's also good parts in there for any other build you'd want to make.

The gauntlet is linda cool, but I am not liking these "lesser" mechs as of late. Though it is hard to pass up for $10. I would rather have this as opposed to another City police car or small helicopter at that price.

I'll admit, these mechs look far more palpable in the review photos than they do in the box pictures.

It totally can. All the Marvel mechs (including the Venom from Venom Vs Spider-jet) are interchangeable, due to the simple (but inspired) 'three-part' arms and legs.

Lego mechs traditionally would just have two arm/leg sections, but the 2020 sets each have three small build parts separated by the ball joint elements (shoulder/arm/hand & thigh/knee/feet). Literally just detach the Gauntlet at the lower ball joint (wrist) and swap for whatever you want.

Another plus of the mechs is that the extra arm & leg sections (arm/knee) make the mechs more articulated and stable...you can actually add a LOT of weight, and they're still standing and are infinitely poseable.

I've had more fun - and been inspired to build (and finish!) a whole bunch of decent customs (Hulk mech, Sandman mech, War Machine mech and a Green Lantern mech for the other side) by these...kinda what Lego should do, but what 8.7 million Lego Marvel helicopters & motorbikes have NOT done.

By in United States,

Despite its somewhat caricatured Mighty Micros design, adding normal legs to the figure from 76072 results in a fairly comics accurate minifigure. It is actually one of my favorites. Now we just (desperately) need an official Silver Surfer. . . .

@CapnRex101 : "imposing" and "12cm in height"? I'm pretty sure I've never seen those descriptions used in the same sentence before! :D

I think these mechs are a great answer to finding desirable, low-price point sets. They appeal to kids and collectors alike, have a lot of play features and potential, and as someone mentioned, inspire folks to build their own for other characters.

Also, am I the only one who sees a pretty great purist Nova torso?

I'd actually really like to see MCU CCBS figures now that they've run the course in Star Wars. I thought that line had some great figures in it, and making up for the terrible 2012 attempt at Hulk and Cap (Iron Man was pretty good imo) would be welcome.

@1947andallthat if LEGO released a set of the Thanos Copter it would be the highest selling set of the year. There would be people lined up outside LEGO Stores and Shop @Home would be sold out
