What is it with LEGO Police Cars not having room in them for criminals to be hauled away?

"Car"?

Incredible that Space Police II still got a token set released in 1998, six years since their debut.

Remember, this was the year that brought us "Insectoids" and the end of the Lego Space theme.

Oh! Very Nice. Love the green visor and Box Art.

Space Police: "Look at my new car"
Blacktron: "It... it doesn't have wheels"
SP: "No it's my new car"
B: "It's more of a speeder, or a jet"
SP: "IT'S MY NEW CAR"

Must have been leftover stock that they were desperate to get rid of before the end of the year.

Are Life on Mars, Mars Mission, Space Police 3 and Galaxy Squad not space? I’d arguably even consider Nexo Knights to be space.

This was a rerelease of a ‘93 set though, right?

By in Turkey,

Futuron was nice but I lost interest after that, one exception was Blacktron. And around 2010 I thought Space was about to make a comeback with Space Police 3, but I was wrong.

By in United States,

I should clarify. I meant the end of the original, continuous run of Lego Space. I'm definitely not one of those people that think nothing of latter additions like Life on Mars and Space Police III. Although I am partial to the themes I grew up with the early 90s, I have found Lego Space (especially the "deep space" themes, not necessarily the Martian or low-Earth orbit varieties) to be generally pleasing and exciting to me.

""Car"?"

Yes, but SPACE Car. You earthlings are so limited in your preconceived notions of what a “car” is.
Why do you think a flying wedge plate with giant rockets and joysticks can’t be a car?!?

This set was too violent and mature for a child of only five, but way too much fun for those stuffy 11-year-olds to handle.

By in United Kingdom,

The first thing that occurred to me was that those missiles could never launch as the clips holding them are built into their body.
The second thing that occurred to me is that you wouldn't want to launch those missiles as then your "car" loses its propulsion and falls from the sky...

Nexo Knights considered space?!?
How. dare. you.
Nexo Knights were very obviously a technologically advanced medieval society with all the know-how and integration of futuristic engineering & gadgetry, yet paradoxically none of the benefits or societal developments those advancements should lead to. It makes perfect sense! And was decidedly not space.

"Packaged with Kabaya sweets in Japan."

Not available anywhere else? Why??? I like candy. I like Lego. *sniffle*

I have the boxed version of this (1916) and used to run it as alternative vehicle in the back of 6984. It all depended on the mission. (I considered it a bit Thunderbird 2ish)

I guess it's more like a police motorcycle.. evil spaceships pull over when they see him in the mirror. ;)

Simpler days, and still a great set.

I don't even think you'd want it. It's my understanding that Kabaya is so fortified with calcium, it tastes like chalk. Think antacid without the flavoring.

That’s just over the top. ‘Space’ and ‘Car’ in the same sentence is just too contradictory. Back to the drawing board, Lego, and this time, come up with a name that at least makes sense.

By in United States,

It's still a "small car" so Huwbot's phase continues

2 giant missiles, no space for prisoner transport... this is literally a “shoot them and take no prisoners” vehicle.

Apparently the Space Police are quite a bit more violent than they seem.

By in United Kingdom,

To be fair, the set's original release ( 1916 ) called it the "Starion Patrol". I'm assuming, since this version of it seems to have only been released as a sweets pack-in in Japan, someone wasn't sure how to translate that name into the relevant language and went with the much more basic one that we see here instead.

Those aren't missiles, they're booster rockets to propel the craft to its destination. These are Kamikaze attack craft for a one-way trip. The Space Police will happily trade the life of one conscript to take down an entire frigate full of intergalactic criminals.
