Review: 30550 Easter Bunny

Since I was late on the last GWP, it's not surprising that another one is right around the corner. Sure enough, 30550 Easter Bunny is available starting today with a $30 purchase. It's one of two promos starting today, 40371 Easter Egg is covered in a different review. There have been a number of different Easter Bunny sets over the last several years, let's see how this one measures up.

This bunny is easily recognizable, with the perky ears that can be posed, to an extent. They can't be positioned so they droop - the lowest they can go is horizontal to the floor. Cheese slopes are used to good effect for the cheeks, as well as the teeth in the front. I like the 1x1 pink tile for the nose, and the eyes are quite expressive. The entire head can swivel as shown here.

I find the choice of colour a little puzzling - previous incarnations of the bunny have been a more appropriate grey or brown. However I like the white accents for the bottom of the bunny's paws and the large splash of white on his chest, represented by a 2x3 flat tile w/ angle.

He isn't that exciting in the back, and it's unfortunately that there are grey plates showing. They're angular plates that are necessary in order to provide decoration in the front or the back, such as the cheese slope used for the bunny's white cottontail.

A singular Easter egg is included to complete the build that surprisingly also uses yellow in its colouring. I would have expected to see a different colour for the egg.

Overall thoughts

As a GWP for a purchase of $30, this is one of the most reasonable promos that's been offered for a while. The bunny's head seems to take up most of the build, and as such reminds me a bit of a Brickheadz. Compared to previous Easter bunnies (40018 and 40053), this seems like a junior version - maybe a baby bunny? That's to be expected; the piece count for this set (67 pieces) is smaller than either of the older sets. I would have liked to have seen more accessories than a single egg.

Still, it's not a bad promo, especially since it stacks with 40371 Easter Egg.

Many thanks to LEGO for providing a copy of this set for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I like how TLG tried to use different colours, but I would much prefer a good old brown bunny with white patches.

I guess they used grey pieces because even simple parts are still not being produced in simple colours. It’s a shame. Also, they should make these available in normal shops when the coronavirus outbreak has been contained. It could be a while. :(

Actually the light bley parts are 2x2 plates, therefore I doubt that it is because 2x2 plates aren't available in yellow. (Luckily are easily fixed since it's quite a common piece).

He does look a lot like Cuddles from the timeless kids show happy tree friend series tho!

‘Not a bad promo’...if you don’t live outside the US! Any chance of us Europeans getting it?

By in United Kingdom,

When will we get this in the UK?

By in Denmark,

I find this one way superior to 40018 and 40053.

There's a bit of an Aardman animation (Wallace & Gromit) look to him, but I can't place exactly what it is about this that makes me think of their style in particular.

@wavelength , got the same vibe. First the teeth size and location of eyes.

By in Belgium,

Anyone know when and if this will be a gwp in Europe?

According to the LEGO catalogue I received today, in the UK the bunny is GWP over £30 at LEGO stores only. Which are all closed.

^ Well the website says:
"As our store locations are temporarily closing in response to the COVID-19 situation, current offers will be honoured online at LEGO.com and on LEGO® Catalogue telephone orders only, until further notice."
So they ought to be adding this to UK LEGO.com orders... but they aren't at the moment.

So interesting to see the comments about the color - and noticing they're almost all from the UK. In the US, it's very common to have Easter bunnies in pastel colors: pink, light blue, yellow, etc. In fact, a brown or gray Easter bunny would seem sort of odd to us! Is that different that UK tradition?

I asked CS. All stocks have been sent to stores. No warehouse stock available.

Yes mostly. Although I wouldn't call it a tradition. Grey and brown is more common and to be honest, I would be quite surprised to see Lego produce a baby blue or pink rabbit. Brown for rabbits and yellow for chickens. Except, when it comes to stuffed animals, that definitely doesn't apply....

I did wonder if that might be the case - shame, but i guess it'll give everyone another added incentive to go shopping at a store whne we finally can
