Random set of the day: Enchanted Island
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6292 Enchanted Island, released in 2001. It's one of 3 Pirates sets produced that year. It contains 419 pieces and 7 minifigs, and its retail price was US$70.
It's owned by 518 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

I had the original 1994 version, amazing set for it's time.
Also, there is a great throwback to the statue head in the new Pirates IDEAS set, a new Islanders set/people pack would be nice to see.
This is a truly excellent LEGO set. Classic style, impressive play value, wonderful design, nice figures. It all works very well.
I have an original release version of this. I actually did not know it was released in 2001 until a few years ago. We didn’t have the money for large Lego sets growing up but for my birthday one year my parents got this for me. Hours upon hours were spent throwing pirates from the bridge into the alligators mouth. (Yes I know they are crocodiles but I’m from Texas and grew up with alligators.) I just finished building Pirates of Barracuda Bay with my daughter. When I was building the statue head it brought back great memories as I explained to her where it came from and that we could build that set as well. Also side note for Barracuda Bay...one skeleton is wearing the soldiers hat...if only there was some way of indicating the second one was an islander...would’ve been another epic Easter egg.
I bought the 2001 set. This is what brought me out of my dark ages at 21, although I must admit that it wasn't so much a Dark Age as it was a dim age.
Intriguing. I really wish we can see more of these sets.
Had the original, one of my favorites! Islanders is such a great sub theme with some of the best minifigures.
Oh wow. Another classic set. My brother owns this, the original release. We had lots of fun with it! And awww, look at those baseplates!
Pure nostalgia for me. I always wanted the original set when I was growing up in my early teens but never had the funds. Too bad this set is severely overpriced on the 2nd hand market. Islanders is one of my favorite themes.
We all really slept on this in 2001. Imagine them re-releasing something like that nineteen years later, today.
Never realized how detailed this set is until I found one in a LEGO lot and rebuilt it. Pirates and Islanders theme really have amazing sets.
Not really digging the grayness they added to the box, but this is a nice set. The baseplates really make this look like a huge set, but it's only ~400 pieces!
I had this (or rather the original one) on my wanted list for quite a while, but decided to remove it since I don't have a personal attachment to it.
Is it just me or have a lot of the recent RSOTD been focused on Pirates and Castles?
Is Huw Bot running a campaign to get Lego to bring them back?
For some reason, I always loved how they combined the raised river baseplate with the flat one.
They look great next to each other.
If I ever get round to building my Lego City, I’m definitely putting these next to each other somewhere.
Not one, but two 32x32 base-plates!
I remember staring at this set in the catalog for hours, I knew the characters from Lego Racers as almost all the characters in the game were based on the sets released around that time in 1999.
I hope the overwhelmingly positive feedback of the Ideas Pirates set will give Lego the idea to bring back this theme, original themes have become rarer over time and I miss a lot of them.
Spooky... I was showing my husband my Baracuda bay set yesterday, when he asked what the grey statue on the side was. I then explained about islanders sets and showed him pics of them all on brickset. He showed a slight bit of interest but not enough to get him to pick up a Lego brick. I’ve been trying for nine years!
These are the only old pirates sets I own, and seeing this set again has made me want to dig them out of storage.
I always found it interesting how LEGO decided to straight-up release those classic sets without any modifications whatsoever (except for the box art), and the fact they re-released them in the early 2000's when they were in financial trouble and there wasn't a big market for such re-released sets is also quite interesting. Reportedly, those LEGENDS re-releases sold poorly, but if they did the same thing today, I'm pretty sure they'd be a lot more successful with the growth of the online market and the all the nostalgic AFOLS who would be more than willing to buy them.
>>>LegoDavid...
Maybe with the success of the Baracuda bay set and a creator pirate ship release planned soon, maybe, just maybe our wishes may be granted. I guess it’s all to do with product-line testing with kids, after all most new sets are designed with them in mind.
People always say that Legends would do better today, but I lean more toward doubting that sentiment. Many older sets have old parts that are not in production now, which requires substitution (which kind of takes away from a re-release). Plus you are selling to a small segment of admirers of the sets vs an entire customer base of those wanting new sets. Legends really showed this which is why many many sets had to be sold at a discount to move the stocks.
Do not get me wrong, I bought many of those Legend sets because they were really nice sets that I wanted, but 'I' was not the entire market. Plus prices would be a lot different than when first released (Take the Vestas Wind turbine as an example). Its why, while some sets have been re-released as of late, I'm not sure we will see another Legend line again.
@meesajarjar Kids should be interested in these things.
Pirates has always been big to my knowledge, medieval (at least fantasy) I think remains relatively popular, vikings certainly are very popular even down here in Australia!
If Lego actually put TIME AND EFFORT into historical/classic themes, they would sell but instead they released very boring lines in the early 2010s, they didnt sell obviously so they use that as an excuse to say NO HISTORY ALLOWED.
They also release the Pirates of Barracuda Bay, which while a great set, is $300! So not many kids will buy it obviously although Im sure a great many would if it was cheaper.
