Random set of the day: Big Chill
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 8519 Big Chill, released in 2010. It's one of 6 Ben 10: Alien Force sets produced that year. It contains 20 pieces, and its retail price was US$14.99/£12.99.
It's owned by 678 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

It started when an alien device did what it did
And stuck itself upon his wrist with secrets that it hid
Now he's got super powers; he's no ordinary kid
He's Ben 10!
IT'S HERO TIME!
Ahahahaha! I knew Ben 10 would show up eventually!
And so Ben 10's journey begins for the RSOTD, watch this get Clikits levels of comments.
Huwbot: Just wait for 2022 with Friends, muhaha!
what waste of a theme
Even though these use the 10.2mm ball system like Bionicle and Hero Factory, its pretty common for most Bionicle moc'ers to struggle with these parts. They have extremely limited connections, perhaps the most limited action figure pieces since Galidor. So when ever a moc maker manages to use Ben 10 pieces extremely well, its a matter of praise for working against that uphill climb.
Huh. Had a nightmare about this last week...
Hahaha, I needed a good laugh today! Thank you Huwbot!
We got this whole series for my kid when he was crazy into Ben 10. His little brother just pulled them out and played with them for a few days while we were stuck in the house, so I approve.
Hey look a set named after what we're all doing right now
I want to know what happened to Little Chill.
As a kid, I wanted this guy because I had every Ben 10 figure except for him and ChromaStone, and because I wanted to build one of the combo figures that was shown at the end of the instructions (which required Big Chill, ChromaStone, and Spidermonkey)
Oh, that's ... well, that's definitely a thing. Absolutely that is a thing, right there.
If we're 1/6 of the way through the Ben 10 theme already, have we seen proportionally more of any other theme yet?
Done in one themes like this obviously have an advantage, and we'll likely never see a big theme completed in this feature, but at some point I think we'll at least get close to an entire medium sized theme being represented on RSOTD. A few dead ends like Ben 10 will probably be completely featured first though.
Ben 10 LEGO was almost like Galidor v2.0.
I didn't even know there was a Ben 10 series. And I def wasn't in my Dark Ages then.
I thought they looked cool, but I wasn't into Ben 10, so I passed. I still do think they look cool.
I got a big chill just looking at this. Truly horrifying.
The only one I get because Big Chill was best alien and he looked best from these sets.

Except the Ben 10 tv show was actually popular. Unlike the Galidor tv show, which I just found out was a thing that exists
Not Revenge of the Sixth...
Anyway, how can we forget LEGO Galidor 2.0. I remember wanting some of these because Ben 10 was popular with my year one class at the time. How fortunate I never got any...
In my opinion, Ben 10 is a very underrated theme. I managed to get all 6 of the sets, and I quite like them. They look pretty cool, and they've got a lot of very useful pieces for MOCing.
Big Chill is definitely my favorite set of the line!
It's Him
Hmm, the bad old days when Bionicle and Bionicle-like figures such as this had just become clunky action figures with single block bodies and specialised limbs, before it swung around to the more modern constraction method of having the limbs and the armour shells be their own separate pieces
The Big Chill. Wasn’t that the title for the first episode of Ren & Stimpy? I miss Ren & Stimpy.
On-topic: why didn’t made this series with spectacular minifigs?
Ah, Ben 10, what a joke of a theme. Giant blocky CCBS pieces that were too juniorized, although a few did get a bit of reuse from Hero Factory. That said, I got this one for the big wing pieces, which adds a nice flair to things. Not the worse wave of sets ever, but they've got to be ranking near the bottom.
Did huwbot know today's featured member and decide to humor him in the random set of the day?

Nope, Avatar the Last Airbender only got two sets and one of them was Random Set of the Day. 50%!

Freaking awesome
I have watched the various iterations of this series over the past 10-12 years or so, and personally while the series doesn't interest me in the least, I think there was enough to warrant a pretty decent line of sets. Yet, we got CCBS; and a line that is pretty often maligned here.
