By in Australia,

I saw the set name, before I saw the picture, and assumed this was another Vikings set.

Even better! Groovy boat, and all, but I just love those round dragon shields. They were some of my favourite pieces, as a kid.

Nice use of the wall parts on the bow and stern.

These old Castle themes are quite awful, build-wise. But there's something about their minifigs and army-building aspect that are very enticing. None of those repeated hero minifigs, it's just about the random soldiers doing normal castle-related activities!

This was my official entry into the "Black Knights" sub-theme of Castle! My mom found this at a garage sale, with its box and instructions included! Unfortunately, the set was not complete, but enough of it was there to build the entire boat and the full complement of knights to crew it. I was impressed. The large blue castle bricks were awesome pieces, as were all the weapons. And the set is just the right size for imagining all sorts of Odyssey-type adventures for the knights. After all, there weren't a whole lot of sets for sea-going or river-going travel in the Castle theme. I guess Lego didn't want to encroach on Pirates' territory, but I think this set stands out on its own.

Anyway, after being so enchanted with this set, I immediately hunted down other Black Knights' sets. First was the Knights' Stronghold, and then a bunch of small, value-pack sized sets. I had the Wolfpack Tower for the Sea Serpent to raid, as well as Forestman's Crossing as a mooring point up river. And eventually, I found replacements for the missing pieces. The coup d'grace, however, was getting the Black Knights' Castle in 2012. At last, the long wanderings of my brave knights came to an end, 16 years after they began.

I had Pirates, my cousin/best friend had Castle. This set was a source of intense childhood envy... which may or may not persist to this day.

Awesome set. Bring's back great memories. A generous amount of minifigs and shields for such a small set. What a fantastic army builder this would have been. I imagine a similar set released nowadays would sell like hotcakes!

It’s funny, I have a specific memory of looking at both this set, and Alpha Centauri Outpost as they were both out at the same time, and seeing them both on the main page at the same time was a beautiful thing.

By in Turkey,

I got this in a secondhand lot. It was missing a ton of parts but I did my best to rebuild it.

I remember getting this with my pocket money as a kid. It usually was pitted against Pirate rafts as that was the only other seaworthy opponent I had.

That knight must be incredibly strong if he's hoping to move such a large boat with such tiny oars. Stick to the sail buddy XD

I always wanted this as a kid. Ended up piecing it together from parts via bricklink and it's easily the best piece of my old castle collection now.

Based on the color scheme (blue, black, red), they must be ancestors of Space Police I bribe-takers!

I have this set as well. I played with it sooo much. It's a perfectly serviceable boat and with an actual sail. Loads of minifigs as well, so you could really play with it. :) Good times.

I still have it. One of the first Lego sets my parents bought me. It came with a shiny smooth surface sword 3847a (as opposed to more rough swords from later sets).

One of my earliest Castle sets & loved that it contained opposing factions in one set! I built so many castles with that blue crenelation part!

This drove me crazy as a kid- I never managed to work these into any other moc and with hindsight this was the start of the big specialised pieces that led to my dark age.

But seeing some of the barges from the early 2000s I feel very lucky to have this!

How I love this set!! I was a child and I was very attracted by the Castle theme, my favourite theme, and owning some castles and knights I received this set from a friend in my birthday's party, and he even could not come. I thanked him so many times!! I played for hours with it!! Love it!!

This is one of the first sets I got after coming out of a 30 year "dark age". Despite not having found the sail, it is displayed in my home office.

A classic, loved it as a child. Sadly the sail required some repair when I rebuilt it while organising my collection.

I wish they'd make more ships about this size. Particularly for a pirates line.
