Review: 30369 Beach Buggy
Posted by MeganL,
After the May 4 promotion and the buildable Mother's Day card the following week, we now have a third gift with purchase at LEGO.com in May: 30369 Beach Buggy.
It's available with a purchase of $40 or more between May 18-31. Let's take a look to see if it's worthwhile timing that small(ish) LEGO purchase you've been planning.
The set comes in a polybag, and shows it's from the City theme.
The buggy itself is functional enough. Those one the lookout for parts will note that the flame yellowish pieces haven't been seen in all that many sets before.
On the back of the vehicle is a 1x2 angular plate that's used to store the surfboard that's included. I found the clutch power on mine wasn't terrific and the surfboard kept falling off at the slightest touch.
The minifig included is a surfer dude. He's dressed appropriately with a tank top with a printed design of a sailboat against setting sun. The choice of facial expression and particularly the hair really capture the surfer dude vibe. The dude's torso is relatively rare, only being included previously in last year's 40344 Summer Celebration Minifigure Pack.
A surfer dude would not be so named without said surfboard!
Overall
This seems like a nice enough GWP if you're looking to make a purchase, especially as it has a low cost threshold. I've also heard rumours that this polybag can be found in Walmart, so in case you have to have it and don't have $40 worth of sets you must have right away, there may be a different option available.
Many thanks to LEGO for providing a copy of this set for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I'm afraid that I don't see that facial expression in 40344. Is it just me? Am I not looking hard enough?
Is it also available in the UK? If so, is it £40?
Agree with you, the surfboard doesn’t stay attached very well. I picked this up a while ago at our local Meijer. Yet another poly bag I’ve found in stores this year that end up being a GWP.
GWP for orders over $100 in Australia, but they are also offering free delivery for orders over $100 so it's a nice little deal
Nice little buggy. Not sure I like the redesign of that surfboard shirt. The sleeve markings make it a little less versatile, and the colour scheme isn't quite as good. That's just opinion though, of course.
Nice. But I prefer another minifigure - par060 because of better classic t-shirt.

whoops. I just realised it says torso and not head. sorry, my bad.
Just the Year of the Rat offer available here, with Monkie Kid sets.
The set is available at Müller stores for €3.99 here in Austria. Nice little buggy with a great minifig!
He’s pretty selfish - parking his buggy on the beach to stop anyone else harshing his buzz as he surfs, then smacking bystanders with the nose of the board as he drives off. In the UK he’ll be taking out pedestrians, but I suppose in most other countries he’ll just be damaging paintwork on other cars.
Grabbed this one at Walmart months ago. Colors were too good to pass up.
That polybag is more sophisticated than the whole 2020 City Police lineup.
For the Pacific readers, a little buggy to wander along the coast ;)
Available from US $ 40, CA $ 40, MX $ 900, AU $ 99, NZ $ 99 without range restriction until May 31
I would have thought one of the supermarkets would have the selection box of polybags like they have in the past few years.
2018 Tesco had 5
2019 ASDA had 5
I was hoping Sainsbury's would get one but nothing yet.
Hopefully it'll launch in the UK at some point; those red wheels look really useful.
This available at my local (central Indiana) Meijer stores. Haven’t bought it...yet.
If some of the sets supposedly coming in June release early, I might even take advantage of this.

Yeah, well, I'm sure Sainsbury's main priority isn't stocking poly bags with the pandemic at the moment.
Although I have been struggling with LEGO GWP that I want since February (the employees come with the excuses that the mailing address (which I have been using for years now) isn't valid and in May 5 I lost three GWP thanks to an artificial limit on x2 (out of x3) White 32x32 baseplates (on a $400+ order and they cancelled the entire thing. They told me they were severly limiting items which were very popular yet when I went to re add the items to my cart it turned out that the plates are still there and the Tantive IV is temporary out of stock. I redeemed some $155 on VIP points on a recemt order and I just missed this.
Those red off-road wheels are also hard to come by as well, aren't they?
Got mine at Walmart before everything shut down. It's a fun little car
Never did find this at my local Wal-Mart but my wife liked it enough we put two $50 orders in to Lego.com to each get one.
Save up those sets that never go on sale and use those as your orders for GWP stuff.
This looks to be a remake of one of the old Paradiso minifigures, as in 1815-1.

It's about the torso, not the head
I really liked this polybg. I picked this up on eBay a month or so ago, and absolutely love him. The minifig is cool, and the beach buggy is a nifty little vehicle.
Also, the clutch power on mine seems to be fine, I haven't had any problems with it.
I can confirm that I bought this at Walmart a few weeks ago. Love the look of this set!
Not the most exciting promo Lego's done but gave me an excuse to finally buy the City Fairground people pack from last year, and the Ninjago Market set from earlier this year. Build makes for a fun little beach buggy but really doesn't differ much from the kind of vehicle you'd normally get in a city starter pack. Hoping the Summer months offer more exciting promo builds, but we'll see.
