Review: 41915 Jewellery Box
Posted by Alice,
Following on from my review of 41914 Creative Picture Frames, today I'm taking a look at new DOTS set 41915 Jewellery Box.
Like the 41905 Rainbow Jewellery Stand that MeganL reviewed a while ago, you can use it to sort and store your jewellery, or any other small bits and pieces for that matter.
The packaging for this set is a plastic tray with transparent lid like the other DOTS sets.
I prefer this box art to 41914 Creative Picture Frames. The colours look true to the bricks and the teal sleeve matches the overall colour scheme of the set.
You'll be pleased to see this one comes with a brick separator, and a teal one at that, so I can give my dad his one back because he doesn't have many :)
The pieces come bagged individually again and can be emptied into each compartment. This time I emptied the smaller pieces into the ridge at the top, so I could find them easily.
The build was straightforward but the DOTS instructions don't call out the parts for each step, so it can be easy to miss a few small bits where it wasn't totally clear. AFOLs and Master Builders might not find this an issue but I expect children would if I had trouble... or perhaps children would be better at it than me!
The completed box is nice and sturdy with a big area for decorating. It closes with a clasp which seems quite secure. Only one curved slope piece in light pink is included so it would've been nice to have different colour options to fit your mosaic but I suppose you can make it work.
This is what it looks like inside. There are three different compartments and you could move the bricks around to adjust it to fit your jewellery in.
The instructions come with some decoration ideas. I recreated a nice mosaic pattern and the brick separator definitely came in handy here to line up all the tiles so they are square.
I think the colour scheme works quite well. At first, I thought the darker colours, especially the teal, wouldn't fit with the other colours but actually they help add depth to your mosaic and make it stand out.
It is a jewellery box, so I put it to the test and put some of my jewellery inside. I initially thought necklace chains and small earrings would get caught between the studs but actually they help hold them in place and stop small bits from rolling around.
Now, I thought it would be fun to have a go at my own design. But first I needed to remove all the tiles to start again and I certainly underestimated how long that would take... even with a brick separator! Once they were off, I spent some time decorating. There were plenty of pieces to play around with different patterns but I mostly used the 1/4 circle tiles so did run out of those in some colours. Here's what I came up with...
The set may be called 'Jewellery Box' but I think it would be perfect to hold any small bits and pieces. You could use it for hair accessories or as a sewing box, or you could even store your small LEGO parts in it.
Unfortunately, before I could put mine to use, Huwbot stole it for his Clikits bits!
At £17.99 / $19.99 it's the same price as 41914 Creative Picture Frames but has 20 fewer pieces, with 374. However, I think I'd rather spend out on a jewellery box than picture frames: it's more practical and gives more scope for decoration, so hours of fun can be had changing the design.
Thanks to LEGO for providing this set for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Certainly goes well with the color scheme of Extra DOTS Series 1, while the Desk Organizer goes better with Series 2.
Makes me wonder what Huw is doing with all his brick separators if he doesn't have many of them...
Great review! I actually like your custom design better than the official one!
I am imagining that @Huw has a bin full of brick separators... or maybe even a wall!
If you had kept your father's brick separator instead of returning it you could've used plates to attach them together and made a giant scoop to remove multiple tiles at once!
I'd really like to get my hands on this for storing extras of printed pieces, like little eyes and compasses. Seems like it would work better for that than the trays the sets come in, which are clearly meant for much larger amounts of bricks.
Great review. Huwbot probably needs about 100 of those boxes to store all of his Clikits though! ;)
You came up with a beautiful pattern, Alice! Looks great. I like this set and the colors. I agree with the comment by TeriXeri on this color scheme matching well with series 1.
The ending with the Clikits was a nice surprise!
Can we try to find the Brickset member (or maybe just staff member) who has the most brick separators? I want to see thousands lined up.
Could be amazing a set like this but with instructions to build an play several board games and store pieces inside it.

"Bad huwbot! Bad! That’s a beautiful pattern you came up with, and a great review!"
Could not have said it better myself.
Just bought this set for my daughter. Its great.
I love the colours in the set, and I'll have to get it for myself - the idea of using to store other LEGO is genius!
I should have figured it was a matter of time before Huwbot took over the DOTS sets for his Clikits. I wonder if he'll review one of the sets?
Oh HuwBot (smiling eyeroll). Also great review thank you
Great review, Alice! Your design for the jewelry box is excellent and looks like a good pattern for a quilt. I also like the idea of it being used to store small Lego parts. Thank you!
Wonderful review! I’ll definitely pick this one up for my daughter as soon as my store is open again!
those clikits actually look very attractive in that box!
