What a well-proportioned propellor.

By in United States,

The end of the Shell/LEGO partnership due to Greenpeace's complaints (well, more of a tantrum) was a shame, especially at a time when it was on the advent of us getting the Ferrari promos available at that time (and we, finally! had a Shell station again in my region).

But as for the set. Sorry excuse for a plane. I don't even see how it could get off the ground at that size! And those tiny little wings!

This thing clearly runs off of Shell fuel that has been enchanted by Egyptian spirits or something because that cannot possibly fly with a pilot of that size.

I actually have seen a video by WZ studios of this set and about 8 other shell promos. So it's cool to see it now on the random set of the day.

I collected all of these Shell promo sets back in the day. It was a great way to sample a taste of themes like Adventurers, Fright Knights, UFO, and Extreme Team. My first ever TECHNIC set was 2544 from this lineup. Good memories...

By in Australia,

I always liked these little promo sets. They were hard to find in Australia, and I had a Shell station right nearby.

Everyone remembers and lauds Johnny Thunder, but few revere the minifigure that actually got him where he needed to go... Harry Cane!

"Oh hey, it's an Adventurers Microfighter."

Adventurers: always ahead of the curve

Pretty sure the dude weighs more than the airplane. Hope it has a seat belt...

I assumed this was some kind of pedal car

Nice sfigure and parts but it will not work as a set for me. If I had it, it would be in my parts bin.

Fun to see the micro version of this after we had the full size version however long ago

Serious question. Did Harry Cane die during the Jungle Expedition? It seems likely given that he doesn’t appear in Dino Island or Orient Expedition.

My working theory is that Señor Palomar just straight up murderated him.

By in Germany,

I did a revamp of that other little Adventurers plane (set 5911) for the Polybag Contest. See it here: https://flic.kr/p/2iVFPde . Johnny Thunder rules! :)

That’s not a plane. Just a propellor and wings, not much else.

would be $3.12 today, not a bad price

I had the Extreme Team Raft of these sets, but that was the only one at the time; though several years later (2005, I think?), I got the Fire Cart, too, as a freebie-with-meal at one of the Legoland Windsor restaurants. I've still got the raft, in fact; it was one of my very first sets - not to mention, my first girl minifigure - and I distinctly remember finding it in my Christmas stocking that year, and building it in front of the living room fireplace before my parents woke up.

I still miss small little boxed sets like this. I know I say that every time, but it's still true; even when the builds were as thoroughly implausible on a realistic scale as this, they still had a distinct charm about them.

@Vladtheb - I sort of assumed that he and Johnny had a big falling-out that saw Harry leaving the team; though your explanation is no less likely. Especially since Harry wasn't in either of the big sets, which I've always taken to represent the expedition's climax... it does seem plausible that he simply didn't make it that far.

I clearly remeber that I found this set in a Petrol Station on a Holiday trip. It was before the whole adventurere wave was released (in Germany) and I did not know about it. So the figure and especially the helmet was new to me. and the tan parts were the first I got. I love the adventures and own several of the sets. The care parts are still very useful for Building oldtimers...

@Vladtheb Well, in the Hidden Side stunt plane set, the ghost in the game portion for that set is Harry Cane (named as such on the boxart) so I guess he did indeed die.

Or maybe he just hates other people with aircraft.

Does the plane fit into his pocket when he arrives at his destination?
