Always wondered how these things work. Seems these little dump trucks with the tip in front are mostly a A European thing

That being said. The build is mediocre at best, due to that chassis piece; which, at the time, was used a LOT when Town/City was in a Juniors/4 Plus daze again. And, we're getting that way with the current 4+ not being a range, but a subtheme now. Too many good ideas ruined by this mentality in set design. And I will admit, when I went through my LEGO parts recently, I threw out a ton of Jack Stone specific, limited-use parts.

By in United Kingdom,

From memory this little bad boy (and I do mean BAD) doesn’t even have a dumping function due to no hinge...Mini Carrier then.

I feel some of you have unrealistic expectations for a $3 set!

I could've sworn that technic set yesterday had the same name...

Did you say "threw out"? That is blasphemy in this neck of the woods.

By in Australia,

What a weird little set. The smaller bits and pieces are fine, but the main model is, well, kinda trashy.

Not exactly yet, but all the chassis pieces (which, other than the figures, which I saved, were all that I still had in the LEGO bins) all had axles that were broken off. They just weren't that strong of a design .

Clearly, you haven't encountered a Jack Stone piece ever.

*Shudders*

Even as a four-year-old I could tell they were trash, they simply didn't look like Lego...

By in Turkey,

Lego used to cram openning hood into 4 wide cars, way back in 80's. Years later they come up with this little dumper, which cannot dump... Truly dark ages for Lego fans. It has good parts though.

By in Australia,

Not sure if ‘Dumper’ is the actual name of the set, or if that was the reaction of the LEGO fan base at the time...

I also have found that these small front loader dump trucks only appear to be used in Europe. Ive seen a lot of construction sites in my time but Ive only ever seen one of these things once in real life, walking to the RAF museum in London.

The increasing juniorisation of lego city is deeply concerning, some people argue "Oh its just cause your mature [not a kid]" but If one compares the 2015 airport range to 2020, or even the 2017 police station to the 2020 one, you can clearly see it has become junorised. And I cant say this whole 18+ thing helps either; lego city has been pushed back to about 6 year olds at the oldest, leaving a ridiculous gap between 6/7-18 for anyone wanting realistic city related sets (i.e city sets vs modular buildings)

By in Hungary,

This is not a usual type of picture for a set.

Dominated by large parts, there's very little building here. At $3 for 30 parts it isn't even a good value compared to today's products. Seems like a lot of that period in hindsight explains why Lego was heading for financial trouble in the early 2Ks.

By in Netherlands,

While it was Town.Jr , it was a nice small set that came with printed street signs and good tools for the time + an okay minifig.

By in United Kingdom,

As with most of these sets, I mainly recognise it due to it being a playable vehicle in Sandy Bay on Lego Racers 2. Then again, since Sandy Bay was basically 'Town Jr. on an island', most of that range were available to race in.

Also, it showed up in several of the UK Lego Adventures magazines, in the comics that starred Builder Pete (their name for the guy in this set). Mostly, I remember a comic where Jailbreak Joe stole it... though looking at the stated lack of merits to the set, it certainly doesn't seem like it was the best robbery idea he ever had! (As I've mentioned before, the stories in Lego Adventures were... far from the pinnacle of storytelling xD Though to be fair, they were also more of a starting point to encourage kids to explore their own stories in the Lego worlds, rather than anything meant to stand in their own right.)

They're all right, but they've got a mini dumper. *snicker*

@BionicleJedi:
Jailbreak Joe was clearly performing his court-ordered community service.
