Dear Jack Stone,
I hate you with every fiber of my being.
Jack Stone gets a bad wrap. I mean come on, not all the part molds are bad, they must be useful somewhere, right?
60132: Ah, a worthy opponent, our battle will be legendary.....
... I don't think there will be a quick way to fix this, Jack.
This pains my soul
Those darn 1×2×5 columns. Always seem to find those with the little nipple on top broken. Yes, I said nipples. No other way to describe those.

There's a reason they don't exist anymore.
@MCLegoboy Nope. No. Negative. They aren't useful.
I, unfortunately, have a lot of Jack Stone/4 Juniors sets on my collection (4655 is among them).
Back in my young days, normal System sets were inexplicably rare on toy stores. For example, I always wanted some Star Wars sets from 2002-2005, but I never found them.
On other hand... sets from that hideous junior theme were always common. To make things worse, my parents always convinced me get JS/4J sets rather than the rare normal ones. I guess they were probably cheaper...
So yeah, I have a lot of big ugly parts that are nowhere useful for MOCs.
You had "minifigs" that are barely recognizable as such, large parts, and no challenge to the build. While slightly improved, my same criticism goes towards 4 Juniors/4+
There's some stuff that isn't so bad about this set. All the decorated elements are printed, and I am getting most of them for a better convenience store build. There is a (yellow!) jack, which I'm quite surprised to see as late as 2003. And that big pipe wrench!
Look at that beautiful Yellow Jack!
I have nothing against Jack Stone figures, but those vehicles were bad... Really bad...
I came here to make some comment like “this set needs a quick fix” and to see if/how many people had already made that joke. Looks like just @Zordboy beat me to the punch.
Of course, some might argue that the joke was not worth making in the first place.
Oh, Jack off.
I realise that to us adults this set looks simple and boring, but was anyone here the target age group when the Jack Stone sets first came out? Were they any good to you then or were they inadequate even to younger children?
Once upon a time I was the target age group for this set, but the worse thing I can say about the Shell petrol stations was the number of STAMPs.
If this was the set I was given I think my attention would have drifted.

Yeah, I'm genuinely surprised that I was the only person who went there. The punchline is right there in the set name.
@Brickalili I was a kid when these things were released. And I always felt disappointed to get Jack Stone/4 Juniors sets. The large bricks and figures were extremely boring. If only I had found the sets I wanted when I was younger...
At least I can easily say that the argument of "juniorized sets are always good for young children" is flawed.
This might be one of the best 4 juniors/Jack Stone sets, but that isn’t saying much.
Please dont crucify me, I own this set :( I didnt buy it though, just came in some second hand lego. I use the fast food section part which is alright, that Octan print and petrol bowsers are good though. I used the white roof and yellow door as a base for a coastguard storage shed.
When you need that quick fix...
Hm those were dark times. And basically the time I didn't buy new LEGO and grew up.... until i could afford it again. AFOL!
I used the fact that this set is ugly as a challenge.
I wanted to use the two large panel pieces to represent a little Fast Food Outlet near my station.
It worked so well the build just received 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas:

This boxart looks like it's from Mega Bloks, it's absolutely hideous.

Funnily enough I just watched your build series for the first time a couple of days ago! Very nice usage of an otherwise difficult (at best) set of elements. I'm half-tempted to get this so I can try something similar myself!
This seems like a nice set that needs some bit of work.
Just curious: would Jack Stone have got quite so much hate if he and the others had been genuine minifigures (but everything else about the sets remained the same?) Or would that just have made the situation that much worse?
I was actually morbidly fascinated by the Jack Stone figures at the time, I remember; though not to the point of ever wanting to buy any myself. Um... though that said, I didn't even realise Jack Stone continued into 2003; I kind of got bored of it by late-2001 and kinda just tuned it out after that!

"I have a jack stone figure. He came from a toothbrush, apparently. For years I thought it was a fake, and utterly despised it. I figured out it was real, and I still dispise it! I mean, is a minifigure that junior that they have to replace it with these...
...things!"
Those toothbrushes (which if I recall, Big Lots had for a buck apiece), from Colgate if I recall, were the reason for most of the Jack Stone figures I had. I think that was LEGO's way of getting rid of unsold figures. While 4 Plus gets a lot of criticism from me, at least it is an improvement in that regular Minifigures are included.
Jack Stone gets too much hate IMO. Say what you will about the builds, but there are still plenty of interesting parts that have a untapped MOC potential.

Those catalogs as well from the early 00s were terrible. Every set had a product description that read like filler copy. Embarrassing by today's standards.

I bought this entire set because I loved your idea and the parts needed are hard to get on BL (unless you're willing to order from multiple foreign stores). I'm assuming this has something to do with your videos...
This set looks just as ugly as the the current City "gas station" - but for half the price...
Otoh, from this RSOTD I learned that there are 4x18 bricks. Never knew that. Cool. Will get some used ones on BL.
On the bright side, at least the instructions have more than two steps like the last Jack Stone RSOTD had. This one has FIVE steps! Take that, 4618!!!
Okay, the bright side is looking pretty dim.
This set COULD'VE been good...if it wasn't Jack Stone.

You'll have to be quick as they are selling out worldwide for just that reason!

Yes, I think I might be guilty there. Making the unpopular strangely popular!

And I just can't imagine anything worse than a broken nipple.
It’s as if 187 Brickset members suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
