Random set of the day: Town Figures
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6002 Town Figures, released in 1983. It's one of 13 Town sets produced that year. It contains 20 pieces and 4 minifigs.
It's owned by 76 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.
Help me come to life! If you like the set I've chosen for you today, please pledge your support for me on LEGO Ideas so I have a chance of becoming an official LEGO set!

The Tool Gang! What a classic line up of figures. I wish those pigtail hairpieces were still around.
Complete with coordinated dance moves. Just one member short of practically doing a LEGO version of The Village People.
It's fun to build people with L - E - G - O

Just like the Fire Fighter set from the same era, it's like the Beatles' Abbey Road cover...
Those are some classic torso prints from the good ol' days as well, and how many sets came with two different pigtail minifigs?

No wonder the Clikits sets have been in short supply on RSOTD lately: Huwbot's fishing for votes! As soon as the Ideas set gets approved, get ready for the Scala and Galidor avalanche...
I loved the blue work uniforms, because those were the train driver minifigs, to me, as a kid.

The best thing about that one was that I was able to give them the boy band name of "Station Nation" and an album track list of risque songs for teen girls to swoon over. Not as easy with this one.
Miss these 80s minifigs! <3
Given what I know about this set, 76 members owning a copy seems like an a lot of assembled copies to me. This is a very rare Canadian exclusive.
I would love to have one of these in a box now. It's history to me.
That packaging seems to be very overbuilt, I like it.
The minifigures were common for that era, but part 4006 in light gray was only in one other set. Although it seems to only be light gray in the box art. The one actually included in the box seems to be the more common black.

Maybe the maker of the picture didn’t have the 4006 in light grey anymore?
Love that stripy top and the pigtails too! My fave Mini figure hairdo is a red pigtails I have from no idea which set...
So dapper.
Aka a halfhearted Village People tribute band

I think that the hair with pigtails is one of the oldest hair pieces??
Ah, back in the days when minifigures came packaged with their heads pre-attached to their torsos... I've actually no idea when they stopped doing that, it was still the case for most - if not all of? - my childhood!
I mostly recognise the stripy torso from the Lego Football sets of... 2000, I think. Where they reused the design for the red-and-blue team. I was so surprised the first time I saw it in an older set, since I had thought it unique to the Sports line! Though I guess the older version here didn't have a number printed on the back xD
Out of these minifigures, I think I like the doctor best; though while she's clearly a lady, I confess that I still have some trouble seeing that classic smiley face as gender-neutral. I always assumed as a kid that it was a generic male face since, at that time, the generic female face was the one with lipstick and big eyelashes, and I didn't realise then that it was a relatively new invention.
...and yes, it did puzzle me as a child why men would be wearing their hair in pigtails! Still didn't make the connection until years later though, for some reason.
Lego needs to release more figure packs. I don't want to pay $40 for a "set" that includes nothing of value beyond the actual minifigs.
Like a 4 fig for $10 pack would be great.

LEGO sure wants you to, though! They're following the classic marketing mantra, "Why sell just one when you can sell two at twice the price?"
And some might argue that LEGO bricks, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, do have some value on their own...
