Random set of the day: Bungalow
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 232 Bungalow, released in 1978. It's one of 5 Homemaker sets produced that year. It contains 445 pieces.
It's owned by 132 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.
Help me come to life! If you like the set I've chosen for you today, please pledge your support for me on LEGO Ideas so I have a chance of becoming an official LEGO set!

What a surprisingly-large set.
And, with the added bonus of no creepy baby-minifigs.
Look at all that play area and that complete building! (sans a roof) Granted, it's a bit bare bones, and it's all basic bricks and tiles, but still, quite impressive.
Horrific image in which the innocent people of the Homemaker line are unaware of the malevolent twin deities controlling their every move. Those poor plastic people’s free will is only an illusion.
Although in some ways it resembles a LEGO scene of The Stepford Wives, the completeness and playability of this home is disturbingly alluring.
The height discrepancy between regular minifigs and those pine trees is already absurd, but these folks just straight-up tower over them like plastic colossi.
The new LEGO Bungalow set—so much fun, even Siamese twins can enjoy it!
perhaps that was inappropriate...
Given the way LEGO did Belville and Scala houses, I'm pleased to notice, visiting Bricklink, that the biggest parts that make up the walls is a 1x6x5; but there are 28! of them. They must comprise most of the walls!

No, I'm glad you made the Siamese twin joke, because I was just about to, then chickened out.
(Lady leaves the chat)
The first thing I thought when I saw the opened house was "Ikea showroom".

Obviously the pine trees aren't fully grown!

Those kids would be like 50 now.
Come play with us, forever and ever!
Don’t know why, but the curly mustache on the dad figure tickles me (pun intended).
"Für Mädchen ab ca. 6 Jahren" translates as "for girls from c. 6 years old"...
Pity, I'm sure the other half of the population would have loved playing with it...
I just picked up this set cheap earlier this month...with the box even. I didn't know it existed until I got it. I have not yet checked for completeness, but it looks like it could be complete or very close. It has two brown base plates which immediately caught my eye...apparently the only set with brown base plates. I need to go through and inventory the set soon.
I also thought it was very large for a Homemaker set...I haven't checked to see if there are any others with as many pieces.
I bought this set 2.5 years ago for €25 euro, mainly because it's the only set that has brown baseplates and this was the cheapest way to get them.
My daughter loved it so much I only recently got my baseplates :)
Look how disgusted they are for having to deal with baseplates and organized components.
Good thing LEGO has stopped adding them to sets and we can have a total mess with the newest City Square as the peak performance.

Picked this up for £15 last year and still trying to decide whether to sell it. Those brown baseplates are very tempting.
Wow I really like this theme, which Lego did something similar again in minifig scale!

When you're rife with devastation,
There's one simple explanation:
You're a toy maker's creation trapped inside a crystal ball.
And whichever way he tilts it,
Know that we will stay resilient.
They can never break our spirits as we sing our silly song!
Ha ha, I had the same thought, but I have lots of homemaker sets, so it would be nice to keep the collection intact, also, like you say, brown base plates......
Home maker was the first Lego I had, and most of the sets I have were mine as a child. I did seek this one out though.

Slightly scary, (almost too old for the toy) twins on the box.
The detective's office came with a (reddish) brown baseplate. Those are only somewhat cheaper.
This could be the beginning of all creator houses or even modular sets. Only missing the roof.
Although the homemaker sets were for my generation, I was never very interested in them, much more interested in my brother's space sets.

At least "for girls" didn't mean "every second piece is pink" back then…
Oh, and about those 1x6x5 walls also interesting: Those pieces were almost forgotten with the end of the homemaker series, making a lone reappearance in the 1991 Train station 4554. Until 1997, when they flooded all the Town jr. sets… It's smaller 3-wide sister piece had a few appearances in the 1980s and 90s (including the legendary Italian Restaurant 6376).
@Harmonious_Building:
It's not a tree. It's a shrubbery.
@sbpyrat:
Bungalow is the only set with old brown 32x32 baseplates, yes. But 3053-1 from the Ninja theme had a 16x32, and 3052-1 (also Ninja) had a 16x16. Detective Office is still the only set with a reddish-brown baseplate of any size, but they're a lot cheaper than the old brown 32x32's.
@TheK79_selbst:
That 1x6x5 brick appears to have been replaced by the 1x6x5 panel, which came out three years before the last time the 1x6x5 brick appeared. Serves almost the same purpose, but uses about 40% less plastic, and the mold is probably a lot easier to make.
