What a big, beautiful set.
And I'm not only talking about the train doors. Mostly, but not only.
The conversion rate between the Dollar and Pound must've been much higher 14 years ago. 70 compared to 40! It's much closer now.
Aww my baby. I love it so much and it’s the bane of my life. I take out sections and put them back in to get them to fit with the modulars and under the shelves. This is an entirely love/hate relationship.
Yeah, mine is on top of my dresser because it won't fit on a shelf. The CMF series 10 skydiver is on it, about to do a BASE jump.
I don’t have one but it is a good looking set
I think this was the first set to use the lifebuoy as a toilet seat.

To be fair, the set was 49.99, then 69.99, I got the set on clearance for $50, though it's in pieces after the "Twin Tornadoes" incident - 2 young boys, not a real tornado lol.
Best City set of all time in my opinion.
Two young boys: more destuctive than most tornadoes.
Ah yes, the least private port-a-potty in the world
One of the sets I love the most in my collection, and the only one from the City theme to be displayed in my main living room, otherwise reserved only for Architecture and Creator Expert Vehicle sets!!
I wish LEGO could do this more often. Seperate the vehicles from buildings in City. It worked really well back in the day.
With little modification with technic pieces, this may very well become a Technic set, and a beautiful one at that.
That thing looks huge. Hugely huge.
How tall is it actually?
According to the set description:
Crane stands a towering 26" (68cm) tall!
Arm extends up to 26" (68cm) long!
Is there a reason brickset uses scans of the instructions as the set thumbnail as opposed to box or LEGO.com pictures for a lot of the city sets from this era?
That set will always hold a special place, as it was used as part of our wedding reception (we had a LEGO theme).
This is a big set thats actualy good.
Ah, this one stands proud and tall on my building table. Added an extra level of girders to make the proportions better. And should I manage to get hold of a second crane I already have the extra parts to make that one even taller!
Will look good in exhibitions...
Got this for Christmas back in 2007, it's always been an imposing sight on my shelves.
Imagine a 721 piece set for only 40 quid, not to mention so many large pieces!
Admiring this set makes me think that we are in a new decay of the CITY Theme
It was released in an era when the instruction covers didn't show the entire set, hence the unsatisfactory scan of several of them.
One of my must have City sets. I'm going to buy it, but I don't know when. This year or next ... If it had a better price as a MiSB I would have bought it a long time ago but € 300 for 721 parts makes me want to wait for bargains. For example, yesterday I bought 4993 (MiSB) for about € 55. Almost like the list price.
This set is fantastic. This was City was great. After coming out of my dark ages in 2018, I find myself going after City sets from 2005-2008. It seems like City isn’t so great anymore. But Town/City seems to ebb and flow, huh?
Still funny even today to move the toilet while the workman is having a rest break. Interesting construction with lots of girder supports rather than technic beams. Curious what other models you could make or combine with the dozens of other city construction sets available at the time.
This set is perfect for a City, you can make so much senary with him. I am trying to get it for that reason.
This is my white whale of a set. Was in my dark ages at the time of release, and I really wish I was into Lego at that time so I could own it.
This is on my list of sets (+ the early modulars) that I'm currently trying to put together, but need the pieces for. I have some of the right pieces but in the wrong colors, like black girders instead of the yellow ones. If it looks like a great set... guess what? It IS!!
Got it MISB a few days ago. Now it is used and wonderful! ;)
This was an amazing set from a time where City still had a construction theme. Lego seriously needs to bring back a construction theme again in a scale, that let's you actually build buildings again. But for it to be affordable, they'd need to ditch the hundreds of small extra pieces, which focus the set on more of an AFoL audience.
That outhouse looks so simple and blocky.

One of the top of my missed list!
I paid heavily for this guy new last year :x
Still sealed for now...
still waiting for a remake of this set
Perfection when paired with set 7900.
Fantastic set, but the windows on the port-a-potty are a bit disturbing. Next year, Lego would add 7990: Cement Mixer, allowing you to recreate that one mission from GTA: San Andreas where Carl buries the construction foreman alive in the port-a-potty with cement.
One of the best City sets of all time.
Just compare this with 99% of today's City lineup. Laughable, unrealistic, forgettable, overpriced as hell. But hey, at least we got named figures and an accompanying TV show now. *rolleyes*
Sets like this should be available in City all the time. Contstruction as a subtheme, just like Police or Fire Brigade, should be a given, as should be Farming and Transport (including Harbour and Trains). Now THAT would be a proper City, not ever more Donut Shops and Burger Monster Trucks. Enough obese kids in real life already, doesn't need this stuff in LEGO form as "role models" as well.
I have 28 sets of city construction theme, 7905 is my favourite set, it have been standing on my desk for more than ten years
And 7900 7249 7344 are also very nice.
One of the best and unique city sets back then and really good price too. Something like that would easily surpass $100 nowadays.
