Review: 30420 Harry and Hedwig: Owl Delivery

30420 Harry Potter and Hedwig: Owl Delivery focuses upon Harry's broomstick, the Nimbus 2000, arriving before his first Quidditch match. The new Hedwig is therefore included and her textured wings look marvellous.

This young Harry Potter figure appeared in an earlier polybag which does reduce its appeal somewhat. Nevertheless, I like Hedwig and the accompanying dining table looks superb, even though Harry cannot sit down with short legs.

Minifigure

This polybag contains exactly the same Harry Potter minifigure as 30407 Harry's Journey to Hogwarts which is slightly disappointing, particularly since that departs from this scene during the film. Nevertheless, the tousled hair piece includes marvellous texture and I like this double-sided head, displaying both cheerful and frightened expressions.

Harry's dark bluish grey jumper includes the Gryffindor colours of gold and dark red along its edge, although the gold is represented by flame yellowish orange here. Identical colours are printed on his tie and this minifigure features short legs, reflecting his relative youth in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A dark brown wand is provided for the wizard, as usual.

Hedwig also accompanied Harry in 30407 Harry's Journey to Hogwarts. While the previous figure included folded wings, the 2020 range has introduced an updated owl component with open wings! The same element appears in several new sets but its availability in a polybag is definitely appreciated and I love the bright yellow eyes alongside printed feathers. In addition, the beak has been improved.

The Completed Model

Professor McGonagall sends Harry the brand new Nimbus 2000 broomstick before his first Quidditch match and that famous accessory is available here. This broomstick is connected beneath Hedwig's talons using a light bluish grey clip which is quite effective. Admittedly, the broomstick is wrapped when it arrives onscreen but this design is adequate for a polybag.

Wooden tables from the Great Hall have appeared in numerous previous sets but this example is attractive, featuring narrow benches along either side and a generous collection of food accessories. Fried eggs or sausages would potentially have been more suitable because the Owl Post invariably arrives during breakfast, although these elements provide some welcome colour to this model.

Overall

The updated Hedwig is certainly my favourite aspect of 30420 Harry Potter and Hedwig: Owl Delivery and Harry's beloved owl looks superb here. Furthermore, I appreciate the decision to focus upon a scene which has not appeared in LEGO previously, even though the Great Hall is comparatively prevalent across the Harry Potter theme.

However, this minifigure has already appeared with 30407 Harry's Journey to Hogwarts and 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall. I think an alternative depiction of the character would have been more appealing and plenty are available to choose from, including some wearing robes which would adhere to the movie. Nevertheless, popular characters such as Harry Potter or Hedwig are always welcome in polybags.

This polybag is currently available with Harry Potter purchases exceeding £40, $40 or €40 at LEGO stores.

By in Germany,

Pretty boring minifigure. In the movie Harry is wearing robes over his jumper when he receives the Nimbus 2000.

By in Canada,

I was so excited to find this back in July while waiting for the summer wave to drop here in Canada, hahaha.
It's not a good poly though. We have more than enough of the long tables from various sets, all of which are completely redundant if you have the Great Hall (which most HP fans will have, I'd imagine). They're all just extra parts at this point.

By in United Kingdom,

If, like me, you're not into HP, this is still a good little set. Substitute the head and torso assembly and this could be used for any number of fantasy or real world places.

By in United Kingdom,

I have most of the parts separately... and Harry's Torso 6 times I bought the New Hedgewig from bricklink for £2.99 so I wont need the polybag!!

By in Puerto Rico,

A nice scene but they could have used the moveable small legs here.

By in United States,

It's free with a modest purchase, and comes with the new flying Hedwig. I made a special trip to pick up a copy of this...and it never made it in the bag. Fortunately, they're holding a copy for me because they were still in stock when I stopped by.

Quite personally, this is what a polybag set needs to be. Simple, but still substantial.

Really hoping this polybag gets a release as more than just a free promo! I need that new Hedwig mold

@Snazzy_Bricks:
Hedgewig is her cousin. He's green, pretty rooted in his ways, and not really into flying. Recently he's been spotted hanging out with a giraffe and an elephant.

I’d only get this for Harry and Hedwig, as the table parts are nothing special.
But thanks to the Brickset database and this review, I can see that I already own several of each in other sets, so no need to go out of my way to get this one.
Thanks Brickset. You’re always a help.

If you like the owls specifically, as I do, this mini flying Hedwig figure is included in the large flying Hedwig set 75979 (not quite $40 US).

By in Italy,

I actually bought it for 4 eur in a muller at the beginning of august, together with the hidden side stunt cannon polybag, didn't even know it was supposed to be a promotional one.

I have been looking forward to this polybag for the Hedwig but knowing that it's a repeat Harry, I'm on the fence. I could always use more cupcakes, turkey legs, and dishes but I don't know...

@Puppyjonathan it's been in stores for a couple of months now. I've seen it at Walmart and TRU.

@Minifig_Jez :
_Flying_ Hedwig is still pretty rare. She’s been in four sets from the latest wave, and this polybag. Unless you’re parting out tons of sets, it’s a bit early to have randomly accumulated several of this specific owl.

By in Belgium,

Found it here in Belgium at "kruidvat" for 2,99€, and also the 2019 advent calendar for 10,99€ at "FNAC", both great addition for my great Hall !
