Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6895 Spy Trak 1, released in 1989. It's one of 12 Space sets produced that year. It contains 148 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$15.
It's owned by 2844 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

A bit of an oxymoron of a set if you think about it.
How is this tactically stealthy for espionage and stakeouts? Look at the size of those wheels, the tracks they leave would be a dead giveaway to your location!
It’s always frustrating we have a steering mechanism worked the opposite way you wanted it to.
@MCLegoboy -
Maybe the wheels are inflated to make less noise. Or maybe Huwbot is starting to get into big - wheeled vehicle sets . . .
And the countdown to someone complaining about the exposed underside of the cockpit begins!

Would make sense with yesterday's set.
For a minute, I thought I'd owned this set, but couldn't remember owning the wheels. Then I realized I was thinking of 6897. I don't think I actually ever owned any SP1 sets at all, and the only minifig I probably ever got was from the 6704 minifig pack. My parents had stopped buying me LEGO sets at that point, so I skipped a lot, but I always tried to get the Space and Castle minifig packs.
While it realistically won't do well in stealth, it looks awesome!
On a side note, this is one of the sets in LEGO Legacy. Pretty handy for dealing with enemies with stealth.
this set good

He's wearing a spacesuit. That cockpit canopy is there to protect him from micrometeorites.

The exposed cockpit underside is the primary reason why I never got this set! It just looks so unfinished given the heavy, rugged look of the vehicle. Otherwise it is a fine set, with an interesting steering mechanism. It is also one of the few SP1 sets that includes minifig tools.

Exactly.
Happy nostalgic smile...
Mine went toe-to-toe with my Battrax and somehow won every time. It's like I favored the good guys or something.
Scum Police....
Someone free that Blacktron!
How I’d love a space police modular building!
Spy Trak 1, Spy Trak 1
Does whatever a Spy Trak does
Giant wheels, either side
Catches criminals on the rise
Look out!
Here comes the Spy Trak 1
I clearly remember my parents buying this for me at Argos in... Uxbridge, maybe? I chose this one because of those big wheels.
Had it and the 6954 Blacktron Renegade ship from Space Police/Blacktron I
Space Police 1 has such a cool color scheme. The black, blue, and trans-red make up a really unique color combination that is very pleasing to the eye.
One of my favorite Space sets ever.
Certainly one of the best ever. Beautiful steering.
This is the sort of vehicle whose value in reconnaissance is due to its speed and maneuverability rather than its stealthiness. Blacktron is clearly pretty good at signals intelligence anyway, with the Message Intercept Base.
To the people saying its too much of a space SUV to get stealthy; you know space is pretty big right? Yeah its big and chunky but what are the odds you're going to be right on top of it, even if you happen to be on the same moon? All its fancy gadgets and antenna are probably to stop it being picked on on sensors
I own this set. I even made it with my son not too long ago. It's a bit weird, but so good. He loved it as well.
Seems you could do a lot with 148 pieces in those days! I never understood why the prison was on it's side, I'm sure there is some rule about transporting prisoners vertically.
As much as I love the classics, I've never liked those tires.
I actually own this and it is still built up. I never took it apart in all these years, believe it or not. After I was done playing with it I packed it up in a clear cellophane bag and stored it in a drawer in my parents' house. Just looked at it the other day and it is still like mint. Probably my best kept set of all from back in the day.
Anyway, this was my favorite Space Police theme. I've got the accompanying Light&Sound spaceship (6781) too.
'Space Police I' looks so badass. I always wanted them.
My brother had this. I always liked the steering. One of the reasons I liked 6896 was that it had a similar steering system.

Not complaining, just fixed it.
It's tracking spies to imprison, it doesn't spy itself. It doesn't need to be stealthy.
@Brickalili:
Nobody worries about being stealthy in an open desert because there's nobody around to see you anyways. It's only when you're right near someone that you need to be at your most stealthy.
@Koentinius:
Is it hunting in packs like wolves? Or is it running a solo operation like a tiger? Wolves don't need to be stealthy. They let you know they're coming, because the plan is to chase you down until you're too exhausted to fight back.
I had this as a kid. Such a great theme, and those SP1 minifigs look so boss.
