If this were released today, would the steering wheel be used again or would it be updated with the handlebar element?

Maybe the closet to a P-38 Lightning we’d get from LEGO .

By in Venezuela,

I love this folk's confidence, but that tail[s?] is worrying me.

Swoooooosh!

By in Australia,

Very few things make me as happy as early-to-mid-90s Town.

What a cute little casket with wings.

By in Turkey,

I've found this in secondhand lot that I got. Not particularly my favorite but I cannot dissassmeble it due to nostalgia. I just love old sets so much, no matter what they look like.

By in Canada,

Not enough black or Neon green. Perfect amount of white, though.

I love how incredibly simple old sets were.

I too got this from a secondhand lot of parts, probably from a garage sale in the mid-90s. Being small, I was quickly able to size up from catalog pictures the pieces I needed to "reassemble" it. My early attempt was thwarted by not being able to find the distinct propeller piece. I settled for a smaller propeller from a helicopter steering vane instead. It didn't look right, but I was more pleased to have an aircraft, something very rare in my early Town days.

After a much larger garage sale haul courtesy of my grandfather in 2001, I got a duplicate of this set and was able to finally complete my original one with the correct propeller. By then, I had a small wing of LEGO planes, so this one fell into formation alongside the likes of my Spy Runner and police helicopter. Those nice white wings, however, fell victim to a vile combo of dirt and sunlight degradation by the time my family moved in 2003. I still cherish the set, though, as one of my most played-with sets of the 90s Town era.

One of my first sets and one of my favorites. Rebuilt this thing countless times.

I love the simplicity of these old sets.
Simple shapes, simple smiles, simple lego lives.

I'm pretty sure that blue nosepiece is unique to this set, or at least it was for a long time after the set's release. It's kind of nice having a few civilian planes like this one in the General Aviation section of the LEGO airport.

@oldfan:
That's an obsolete part design, so it remains unique to this set. They stopped making it around 2003, when they added notches to the base, like they did with many wedge and wing elements. Since then, however, the notched version in blue has appeared in 8106, 7871, 8189, 7066, 75002, 75915, 70320, 70322, 70614, and 76081.

By in Albania,

I have this set! Got it as a kid. I still even have the box and instructions too :) I always liked the minifig because it's so detailed compared to the generic 2 dot eyes and smirk the usual generic minifigs have. It was also quite easy to build the alternate models on the back of the box due to the few parts the set has

I am negative vertical speed!

Ah yes, the memories. I used to add a 2x8 plate between the tails to give it a horizontal stabilizer.
