That bird cage looks great! I want one.

By in United States,

Is she seriously questioning why the caged bird sings? She has overthrown her human captors and taken their way of living as her own, yet won't do the same for a fellow pet? I'm telling you man, despite being for preschoolers, the residents of Fabuland are cruel beings with only malice in their hearts...

By in Australia,

Okay. Quick logic question, here. If Fabuland is a place where animals are people ... why is Paulette Poodle keeping birds in a cage in her living room?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

So, Paulette is looking for birds to vacuum?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why is the living room seemingly outside

Gravatar
By in United States,

“Mmmm I could go for some delicious birds right about now... vacuuming makes me hungry”

By in United States,

It's about time there was a landmark set as Random Set of the Day. Paulette Poodles' Living Room has always been a set that has bridged the gap between hardcore Lego fans and those who weren't yet on board with the glory of Lego. Cheers, Huwbot!

She's obviously a bird dog.

Mickey Mouse has a pet dog (Pluto)...

She's not wearing any pants!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This set is so relatable. I can’t count how many times I’ve accidentally vacuumed up my pet birds.
And I’m also an anthropomorphic dog with an outdoor living room.

If George Orwell had designed a Lego set it would be this (in 1983). Not sure what he would have done in 1984.

Every Fabuland set looks like a crazy Lego nightmare.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Strangely that bird cage came back for 3 sets in 1999,2000, and 2001

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are we sure that’s not the hall of justice?

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’d be interesting to see this theme reimagined for the 2020s...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That bird cage piece is so interesting.

Gravatar

@SearchlightRG:
I think 2020 was plenty interesting as it was, thankyouverymuch.

Gravatar

Clicking on this article I didn't expect to come away with wanting to buy some 1980s Fabuland parts.

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

I recently got a lot of random Fabuland parts, and Paulette Poodle and the vacuum cleaner piece were among them. I'd imagine they came either from this set, or a similar one.

I was referring to the decade as a whole.

These Fabuland sets are strangely soothing.

Thanks! Now this set will pop up in my mind whenever I listen to that song.

By in Poland,

I always saw Chima as a post-apocalyptic Fabuland. Would love a new wave of this. Was Fabuland on the list of themes we could have voted for for the 90 year anniversary? Because I would have voted for that instead of wasting my vote on Bionicle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One of the best Lego sets I own. I love Paulette so much. She is one of my faves.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Paulette thinks: "Why has my vacuum cleaner stopped working? Where are my birds? Can you hear a choked sort of tweeting??"

Absolutely.
People being sarcastic about Fabuland should say the same thing about anything in the Mickeyverse.
That's the beauty of being an innocent child. You don't think like a grown-up, asking yourself why Grandma Duck is serving roast turkey for the Duck family Christmas party, or why Goofy the dog is walking alongside Mickey the mouse who is walking Pluto the dog at the same time.

Fabuland is so sweet and soothing, even a unicorn's fluffiness can't compete. ;-)

Humans manage to keep other animals as pets - it's likely the animals of Fabuland also see themselves as superior. If you want a somewhat darker example, there are plenty of instances of indigenous people being taken and exhibited in circuses and freakshows, even as late as WW2.

That sort of logic has its dangers - doesn’t Donald Duck eat Turkey at thanksgiving? And does Goofy approve of Mickey keeping Pluto as a pet?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The way I see it, Mickey and the like aren’t actually the animals they’re names for: they’re humanoids who share some traits with those animals. I mean, if Goofy is supposed to be some kind of evolved dog, why would dogs like Pluto still even exist?

That last one is actually addressed in a Mickey Mouse short called: Easy Street.
I don't know what the linking policy is, but Disney put this one on YouTube themselves (as Mickey Mouse).

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I've been watching Edward and Friends episodes for the last few days.

Fun stuff!
I could only watch a few of these because of the time slot on TCC.

Would be cool if Lego put all the episodes on YouTube.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I got 3 thoughts about this set
1. Nice vacuum piece
2. So that’s where the chair from LEGO Star Wars came from
3. Where room

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I guess this is a "many comments because it is a good set" and not a "many comments because it is an awful set" situation.

Unfortunately, Fabuland was completely excluded from that poll for whatever reason.

I think the equation is if comments are greater than likes, it’s a bad set. This one seems to be making the grade though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Maybe Paulette is surprised as last time she vacuumed there were 3 birds and now there is only 1? Where have the other 2 gone as there is no way to open the cage, and why is my vacuum making a tweeting noise?

@SearchlightRG :
That doesn’t change anything. Nine years of nothing remarkable is about what it’ll take to balance out 2020.

@AustinPowers :
Anyone who’s read the Chronicles of Narnia (in particular The Magician’s Nephew) gets it. While not particularly common, we keep monkeys and chimps as pets. Goofy has opposable thumbs. Pluto has paws.

@ALFIE22:
What chair?

Gravatar

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am becoming a big fan of Fabuland figures. I really need to get on Bricklink and get a few.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Something fun I learned the other day was one of the protoype aliens for LEGO Space back in the day was planned to use Fabuland arms on a standard torso.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Honestly, if the set name hadn't said poodle, I think I might have mistaken her for a sheep...

In what way is a Fabuland reboot, even if you do find the concept horrific, on par with everything that went down or commenced last year?

And you people thought that sketch Mickey had a blank, soulless stare...

I actually uploaded quite a few episodes some years ago to YouTube. These were the only ones that were released on VHS back in the day.

By in Australia,

I was very lucky to find one of these rare Hoover style vacuum cleaner pieces in a haul of old lego. I love old things (and my city is set in the 1950s) so it went really well! It also works fine with minifigs.

I also managed to get a very rare 1950s era fridge piece (not sure if it was fabuland or homemaker) but I was very excited about that one as well as a fabuland rotary telephone base. Sadly I couldnt find any handsets to go with it and the regular minifig ones arent long enough to fit. So I used it in a public telephone box.

It would be cool to see an article analyzing articles with most comments vs. likes to find out which articles are most controversial!
