Was gonna say. At a glance, I thought we had our first Friends RSoTD!

I had no idea Belville made it past the 90s... And I was a diehard Lego kid at the time this one was released!

This is just the weird playmobile collaboration phase Lego went through in the 2000s. Please ignore.

That's an odd-looking Fabuland set.

At least this theme was better than Scala. What I like more about Scala has to be the set names. "My Dad" and "Hot Wear for women". lol

This does not have anything to do with April first coming up, right?

Don't have to wait too much longer, 2022 is the first year they are allowed, so about 9.4 more months.

It's a bit odd how the building has just randomly started sprouting branches.

Released in 2008? Man, I had no idea Belville lasted that long!

I have that minifigure. She makes a great Blacktron, after some serious painting.

By in United States,

Bought this for my daughter and she was not interested at it. Then when Friends came out she was amazed. She's in high school now and still has her Friends mini dolls hidden under her bed.

My lovely horse
Running through the field
Where are you going
With your fetlocks blowing
In the wind?
I want to shower you with sugar lumps
And ride you over fences
Polish your hooves every single day
And bring you to the horse dentist
My lovely horse
You're a pony no more
Running around
With a man on your back
Like a train in the night, yeah
Like a train in the night ...

Using an upside down spaceship thruster in brown to hold carrots, that is some NPU in this set!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

A decent Belville set; you could almost call this the mother of Friends.

Using an upside-down bucket in pearl-dark-grey as a rocket thruster, that is some NPU in the Saturn V set.

One of the last Belville sets to be released, after a surprisngly long run of almost 15 years (1994-2008). You can clearly see how from this point they started making the transition to Friends, as multiple people in this thread have pointed out. Very soon after this line ended, they started working on Friends, which is known to have been in development as early as 2009.

This is some interesting trivia regarding the history of LEGO Girl themes.

That is interesting to see how close the end of Belleville and the start of Friends were. Friends and the minidoll were definitely a big deal, but the concept of specific sets/figures for girls seemed to be blown out of proportion as a radical new idea when Friends was first released. In reality it was the natural next step as the figures gradually got smaller and smaller.

An up-to-date article outlining the history of these sorts of themes would be a good read; maybe even a series, tying in reviews and the like!

So much for progress as the horses have a lot more space to move around than in the narrow pens of Heartlake Stables - 3189.

I didn't get an answer on the last Belville set, because I posted it late, so I'm gonna ask again here:

"I noticed something. Looking through the list of Belville figures here on Brickset, I realised that all of them up to 2003 had arms that were fully articulated to bend at the elbow, whereas those from 2004-onwards have what look like a single solid piece, as seen on the figures in this set.

Does anyone know what bought about that change? It seems weird to me; were the pre-2004 arms maybe too fragile, so the design was replaced? Or was there some other reason that caused that change?"

Honestly, the most interesting things to me in this set are the dark pink bricks and slopes, since that was a very rare colour at the time, and the figure as the basis for modifying into a custom action figure. But that said, even if those are the only parts that interest me, I'd still chose this over a Scala set any day! xD

Barn is sparse, but the figures, horses, and accessories are impressive.

To me: minidolls vs. Belville dolls.

Minidoll hats/helmets work really well with female Minifigures. So, when wearing a hat or a helmet, they aren't bald. But, sometimes I've noticed more and more City female hats with hair. That's about all my use is for minidolls. Hair is often scaled larger.

Belville dolls/figures are decently articulated, cheap on Bricklink, and scale well with 3 3/4 scale figures. And designed in a way befitting LEGO's high quality. And, these figures of the later era had less articulation.

The few things against them I have is that so many had textile skirts/dresses/pants. Thus, their clothing ends up looking like a swimsuit or gymnastics leotard.

Belville covered many subjects in their dolls/figures that 3 3/4 scale figures didn't that much, such as civilian EMS personnel (Lanard did a couple, but they didn't look too good) and equestrians (Breyer's Bitsy Breyer done in the '90s for the Paddock Pals line looks dumb with the rooted hair, Lanard did ONE figure in English riding attire for a short-lived girl's line called WOW! Action Girls that is hard to find and pricey).

Belville figures are not minifig scale, while minidolls sort of are. I am into 3 3/4 scale action figures, and Belville fits in nicely with those. Not a problem. Minidolls look like a knockoff product.

Sacrilege opinion, I know. But, I have more use for a Belville figure than a minidoll. Minidolls look so un-LEGO, but a couple of Belville dolls mixed among a shelf of 3 3/4 action figures don't look out of place.

The figure, horses, and accessories are impressive. Barn, not so much. The rider in this set has been on my Belville list for a couple of years now. Usually, I only pick up a Belville figure on Bricklink if the seller also has regular parts I need for a build. I do have the other rider this year, from 7587, the redhead with the black show coat. And I really need to try to get some of the horses as well. I have a regular brown horse from 7635, and Silver from a Lone Ranger set, but that's about it with LEGO horses. And, none of the riders I bought came with their helmets.

By in United Kingdom,

These figures can actually ride a horse fairly well, certainly in comparison with minifigs and minidolls. And actually better than Playmobil figures could (though my reference point is the 90s, I don't know what they're like now but back then the horses had very oddly shaped bodies so the figures could sit astride).

I'm not sure why the cat is so tiny though, assuming it is a cat?

@cody6268:
I dunno...minidolls are compatible with the new minifig baby heads, as well as Scooby Doo’s head. You can’t say that about Belville.

@Paperdaisy:
There’s a proper cat in a walking pose, which is about the size of a minifig. This, by size, shape, and pose, definitely looks like the kitten to that cat.
