I...don’t remember this at all. I don’t remember ever seeing it on one of our layouts, which seems strange, given how popular the cement mixer was.
Has anyone done anything cool with those huge buckets?
Unique:
57781 24x7 Vehicle Tipper bed in green x2
Rare: None
So I guess to justify the new mold that was used only this one time, they threw two of those buckets in there.
I'd love a set like that today.
I'm surprised that the "tipper bed" being a large, unique piece is so inexpensive and widely available on BL. It's a good looking part and set.

I feel like I’ve seen some SHIP Mocs using those as hull segments, or cargo containers.
"
I love this set. Just a massive truck, tons of lights, 6 wheels, a huge dump bed, and a trailer with the same dump bed. Never owned it, as it came out before I was even playing with LEGO.
Although now that I think about it some cargo of some sort would have been a nice inclusion.
So many space MOCs from those giant green things.
Imagine the number of Road Plates needed to make this do a proper turn without crashing into stuff, let alone a U-Turn!
Sets like this just make me think of a comedy sketch, from an Australian TV show in the 90s, when a truck driver gets out of his truck, and starts singing. And all the other truckies just randomly join in.
"I've got a big truck.
"It's a large truck.
"It's a huge truck.
"It's my big truck."
"He's got a big truck.
"It's a large truck.
"It's a huge truck.
"It's his big truck."
Cue line of dancers.
Anyway.
You could make a great road train with a few sets!

Go buy the Bonsai.

I read that the head of FedEx told the US government they could “solve global warming” by allowing trucks to pull longer trailers. Never mind that to performa right turn from a 2-lane road to another 2-lane road basically requires all four lanes as it is. Besides, truck drivers don’t do U-turns unless they’ve been taken over by an Agent.

I think you just proved why that show is only known in Australia.

Yes, they have. Enjoy.

Ya like how this guy is just casually dumping stuff into the lego city river?
Whatever it’s hauling appears to be so heavy that it requires two buckets
An odd, out of scale Lego City 8 stud wide truck. Now that we have 6 stud wide City cars this is the only City truck ever released that is the correct width.
I remember getting a cardboard shelf standee of this set from the Woolworths around the corner as a kid, and to this day I still have no idea *why* I wanted it
Pretty good time for City, actually.

SHIP mocs, of course! Great stuff
I always wanted this set and never got it. It's so cheap on BL that I'm tempted to fix that, but I'm not sure my apartment can fit that much more LEGO...

It’s even more odd when you consider the weird releases Lego City had from 2005-2007:
2005:
7244 Speedboat
7344 Dump Truck
2006:
7899 Police Boat
7900 Heavy Loader
2007:
7906 Fire Boat
7998 Heavy Hauler
Each of them had at least one gigantic piece, was around $30/€30 and had a set which clearly drew a distinction to the other City sets that year. So it‘s like a mini subtheme, but mostly boats... really weird...

Now there's an idea...
Like those 8 wide city trucks...sadly probably not gonna see this kind of sets again.
I got this in a used lot, missing the tipper buckets. I should fix that sometime. Cool looking set, even without the big buckets.
If only all that green was black....
Wow, that's a beast...:D. Only ones I can compare it to are things like the 'Heavy Loader' 7900 .
See this kind of set make me wish: Hey TLG, make more 'proper' semi-trucks...or better yet:

Something like that...

Thanks for that. I forgot about 7900. It was an odd little collection wasn’t it.
8 stud trucks were unnecessarily large. They could have been easily built 6-stud. By the way, try this for size 7249. 12 stud wide and god knows how many studs long...
Is that a purse in his hand?
@Yooha said: "Is that a purse in his hand?"
I think it's meant to be one of the wheel-blocks.
But when I looked at it, I thought he was carrying his lunch.
This was the first vehicle I got that wasn’t 4 or 6 wide.
I remember thinking how HUGE it was
(and that it didn’t fit in my city very well!!!)

Indeed. Just look at what a great and mostly realistic lineup that year also yielded:
No stupid crook hideouts that need to be canceled, but instead we got a cement mixer, a garbage truck, a nice little rescue plane, a huge harbour, a cargo lifter, and even
... drumroll...
a train station that still deserved the name.
Not to mention cool little polybags like a street sweeper, a doctor and patient, a beach lifeguard (Baywatch anyone?), etc.
Top that off with a big helping of cool fire vehicles. Oh, and I almost forgot the service station - WITH baseplate!
What a great year for City indeed.
And what a pity I was still in my dark ages at the time.
It says "L.C.B.". I know that L.C. probably means LEGO City, but what does the B stand for?
B for...
Brick?
Build?
Bloody'ell that's a big truck?
I bought this hoping to use the buckets for my GBC, but they turnedout to be useless. The only connection points they have are a few technic pin holes on the rear bottom, there's no easy way to close the back.
Also, the pivot point of the trailer is wrong...
A friend of mine who grew out of LEGO gave me his entire LEGO collection for free, and those two big green container parts were part of it. I haven't used them myself yet, but I still saw one cool MOC that used that piece:

I want friends like that.
@Zordboy :
The weird thing is, this might be the only set that includes wheel chocks...and they would probably never be used with one. First of all, they’d be useless on grass or dirt, since the weight of the truck would just press them into the ground. But also, the main purpose of chocks is to prevent a truck (or, more importantly, a decoupled trailer) from creeping away from the dock during loading/unloading. I don’t think a dump truck is likely to ever get backed into a truck dock.

I'd say it's a good idea to use chocks for the trailer when tipping the truck?
Great set, deep in my Dark Ages - bummer. Might BL it as some time, as the 7900 (and then I'd need the 7905 also... I'm heading down a steep grade here... Chocks, anyone? ;))
It's no. 31 in my Top 35 of City sets:
https://brickset.com/sets/list-36283
I remember this set, I liked the way the piston held the buckets at an angle for unloading. But
needed to wait another two years for a front end loader 7630 to make complete.
I found two sets on the secondary market and used as train bulk container carriages as worked really well with bulk feed hoppers, but needed to use technic beams as there is no connection for the bogies at the top end of the containers.
Seeing this as today's RSOTD has given me the urge to dig out the parts to rebuild mine...
Seeing this makes me wish Lego had done more tandem trailers.
@eMJee83:
I’ve never seen a dump truck use chocks before tipping its load. They just don’t need that level of precision. Trailer creep, on the other hand, is a real issue. Dock plates are only designed to overlap about the last six inches or so of a trailer. People have died when the trailer moved far enough from the dock to allow the dock plate to collapse. At that point, it’s no longer supporting the weight of the forklift (which often clocks in at around 4-5 tons), and it can force its way into the gap, shoving the trailer away from the dock.
If you’re dumping a load of gravel in a field, six inches doesn’t really mean much. Besides, they might even drive forward as they’re raising the tipper so they spread it out over a longer distance. You can’t really do that if you’re chocked.
One other common use I know of for chocks is auto repair. If you put one end up on jack stands, you chock the other end so it won’t roll off the stands and land on you.
Chocks are also used for vehicles at the front/rear end of ferries, and large trucks are almost always put at the front of the boat; based on all the water in the background, he must be headed to the construction site of some billionaire's summer villa.
Will be a surprise when he realizes he forgot to load up!
Ya know, to haul all your heavies.
One of my first sets I got when I was a kid!

Yep - check for Dwalin Forkbeard on instagram and his virus series
That's funny. I got those two green bins in a loose piece lot purchased recently and was wondering if they were even Lego. Now I know, and to which set they belong!
@EGOist:
You realize you just told someone to go search for viruses in the internet?
