I wonder how hard it is to see through both a dark green visor and a dark green windscreen.

On mobile the image preview displayed as just text saying “Galactic Chief” before I clicked the link to this and the image loaded. I don’t think this is an issue but it’s worth noting. As for the set itself, it’s interesting but from before my time. Comparing the Space Police iterations to one is another is rather interesting, though.

It’s funny, this ship didn’t seem so ridiculous to me as a kid.

By in United States,

I wanted to like it, as a small, respectable example of Space Police 2. But in retrospect, it's a bit of a dud. It lacks the prison cells/escape pods of 6897 , and the only armament is the classic space hand-blaster, which may instead be only a megaphone. SPII already has a reputation for being inferior to SPI, and when a supposed leader of the faction is issued a pretty weak vessel, it is harder to take seriously.

On the plus side, there are studs on the roof of the cockpit, the tail, and the nose of the spacecraft, with antistuds of course in the base, so when I was in a phase where I tried to link together as many one-man ships as I could in order to build a larger ship, it had the connection points to take its place in the composite vessel

By in United States,

At some point, Space started to lose something, like this set. Part of it is the color scheme. I just don't think black, grey, and trans-green works well. Though it's better than the red/white/blue of the Ice Planet sets.

I love Space but I can't give this more than a C grade.

Them's fightin' words! All true space fans know Ice Planet 2002 was the pinnacle of trans-orange engineering!

Well, it ain't easy being green.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I always assumed it was the space equivalent of the fire chief’s car- small, unfunctional and designed to keep the boss away from the action.

By in United States,

One of and potentially my first Space set. Memories are tricky.

Even head-canoning the megaphone into an ion cannon, this ship was still outclassed by my brother's 6832 Super Nova II.

Rather difficult then for this small thing to pull over or disable my later acquired 6933 Spectral Starguider.

Its current role is to observe and report, and command the 6897 Rebel Hunter and 6984 Galactic Mediator.

By in Poland,

This is the Space Police equivalent of those Cop Golf Carts I saw in Chicago. Love me some Space Police, but I can't help but think that he's also only on patrol for the free donuts.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The “space police” signage on this vehicle screams “pizza delivery” to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It may not be much to look at now, but as one of two Space Police II sets I owned, I'm happy to see it.
I still have a few parts from it, as well as the minifigure.

I thought it said Galactic Chef at first! You know, serving up some juicy justice and tasty arrests.

Exactly what I thought!

By in Finland,

Swap the black pieces to blue and the windscreen to trans-yellow one and you've got a wonderful CS ship.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I like the era but this is a bit rough.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’ll never truly know what my first Lego set was, but this is a strong contender. One of the sets that seems to have been in my collection forever even if it’s not always been in one piece. It was the only SPII set I had until adulthood, when I decided it would be tricky maintaining order with just the one ship and started beefing up the fleet!

Definitely

By in United States,

Part of Space Police II's problem was the color scheme. The Red/Blue/Black of Space Police I screams "police." Green/Gray/Red? Not so much. The Space Lock-Up™ of Space Police I was so much better too. Every jail-in-space needs transparent colored bars.

One of the few things I appreciated about SPII was that the Galactic Chief had epaulettes so one could tell he was important. But wait! "Galactic Chief" is a disturbingly expansive title, and combined with the epaulettes, one gets the impression of the kind of corrupt "police" one finds in nasty dictatorships! So in my mind, SPII was the police force of Blacktron. Thus did the two Space Polices coexist in my collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was the only affordable way to get the Space Police II leader, so I was so happy when I found it. Is it dumb? Sure, but it swooshes as well as any other similar Space set.

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

It seems like Space is Huwbot's new favorite theme... this is the third Space set to appear on Random set of the day this week...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This set to me has the distinction of being the last set I got before my dark ages.
Got it from a friend as a small birthday gift, but due to me having to go to compulsory army service shortly after, I never got around to opening it. Hence I still have it MISB today at my parents' house. One of only two pre-2000 sets I have MISB actually.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Awww. That's cute.

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

We're gonna need a bigger ship if we're to stop these criminals!

Alternatively, replace the red (maybe by trans-red) and you've got a nice companion for some of the "grey" Classic Space sets like e.g. 6891 or 6952

By in United Kingdom,

That SNOT brick at the back is interesting. The default now is to put studs facing ouwards, but that SNOT brick goes the other way.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well I don't know why everyone seems to be complaining or making fun of this set, but I loved Space Police 2, and the grey/red/green colour scheme was my favourite thing about it. I had the 6897 Rebel Hunter, which I still think is the best LEGO spaceship ever - the way it could drop or pick-up the prison cell in the middle was really cool. I could never afford the 6957 Snooper and 6984 Mediator (SO awesome!!!), but this little runabout ship was the perfect pocket money set, with some great pieces too for such a small set.

Yeah the Rebel Hunter’s capacity to transform, extending out to carry a prison transport or shrinking down into a kind of fighter mode is a very neat trick. And the Mediator is great, I love how modular those big 90s ships were

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, this was my first ever full lego set, having previously only had hand-me-down and boot sale boxes of bricks and pieces. I remember it blew my mind as the first time I had seen SNOT pieces and I realised I could build things that would never have been possible before!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

This was one of the first LEGO sets I bought with my own pocket money! I loved that it was an affordable, swooshable little ship. I did not miss a thing. In my head, this was (and is) the space equivalent of a police car.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh hey, this is one of those sets that I had but didn't realise that I did! I must have got its parts in one of my used job-lot purchases as a teen, and was so excited about the bigger sets I found in it that I didn't even think to check for any of the little things like this. It was only when I was starting to sell my pile of spare pieces on Bricklink that I started to consider what sets most of the parts might have come from, and found that I had almost everything that I needed to build this little thing.

...except for the minifigure, that is. Whether I'd had his parts once and had already sold him, or whether he'd simply been missing when I'd bought the lot, I definitely didn't have him by the time I realised I had the set.

Still, it was a fun little find, all those years later!

Perhaps SPII functions as a sort of military police?
I actually like the SPII cells better as they seemed more realistic: sealed pods to hold the prisoners seem safer (for all involved) than laser bars!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The set itself has a really terrible selection of parts or building alternatives, but that's a great minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

But why is it flying over the planet of the Quavers?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Always wanted this to fit well into the back of 6984. It didn't.

Space Police 2 was brilliant.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is one of the worst sets ever! Scum Police! The nerve of Lego releasing a theme to stop the conquest of the mighty Blacktron empire!

Gravatar
By in United States,

All the support for other themes and no love for M-Tron? Don't get me wrong, IP 2002 is awesome and a favorite theme of mine, but M-Tron was there first. And as for you Blacktron stans, I can't even.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was a great era for me. Spyrius, Space Police II, the awesome Ice Planet and the (seemingly) elite and sophisticated Unitron that didn’t have very many sets. I never had the big sets but the “battle pack” from those few years was great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I know I had some of these guys, but I don’t think I ever had any SP1 sets. Maybe a minifig from one of the minifig sampler packs, but that was it.

@MCLegoboy:
Well, you can see his face, can’t you?

@tne328:
Hey, SP2 at least had propulsion on their ships. SP1’s flagship was powered by baloneyum.

@captcrouton:
I’ve seen similar at one of our outdoor shows, I think. The cops on site wear safety yellow short-sleeve jerseys to stand out better in a crowd, and the only paved surfaces are footpaths that aren’t quite big enough for a car. So it’s golf carts, other forms of ATV, bicycles, horses, and foot.

@Wavelength:
There were two matching bricks. Both were 2x4x2 (so not quite perfect), with studs on top and anti-studs below. This one was completely hollow on each side except for a thin wall running down the center, and had anti-studs on both long sides. The other was completely hollow from below and had recessed studs on both long sides. You could basically daisy chain them, slap plates top and bottom, and it’d probably make a rather sturdy bridge.

@TheOtherMike:
*sigh* All M-Tron had going for it was they got magnets _first_. At least two other themes also had them, plus they had better ships. Many other themes had bases, which M-Tron did not. It was already established a few days ago that the MIB from Blacktron I is the best Space base, but M-Tron’s “flagship” was a giant minivan.
