I have a Super-charged hatred of Jack Stone and his friends.
A Jack Stone set?
*settles back in with popcorn*
It's 2 am so I can't think of anything witty to say about Jack Stone even though I really really want to.
I'll get back to you about lunchtime later on today.....
I swear people were joking just yesterday about 52 pieces being needed to make a decent motorcycle...
Jack Stone arrived at the worst possible time for me (i.e. the mid-late teen years) and for LEGO as a whole: i.e. when everything else was tanking. Throw some of these figs in a 4+ set in 2014 and no one really cares... but in the age of Galidor?
As much as people dunk on him I think it'd be cool for Jack Stone to return in minifigure form as in Easter Egg in a modern City set. Just me?
The past FIVE comments are mentioning Jack Stone, yet notice that Jack Stone isn't involved with the set at all because it's not a Jack Stone set. This is a 4 Juniors set, which kept a lot of the same pieces and figure scale, but it's a totally separate thing. Jack Stone ran from 2001 to 2002 and that's it. This is just City but 4 Juniors, where all the people are competent and don't rely on an action hero to do their jobs for them.

Jack still casts a long shadow.
Futuron color scheme? Check.
Futuron styling? Check.
Futuron set? Alas, no. It’s only Town Jr., with a Police boat that is about 20 bricks away from being a 1-piece set!

Jack is everywhere if you know where to look
Guys, remember, we've been asked to play nice and be respectful of...this.
@Formendacil:
63, as it turns out. But, to be fair, the Dodge Tomahawk is a beast of a motorcycle.

*turbo-charged
I tend to be pretty forgiving of RSOTD in my grading. There a fun look back at Lego of the past. But this set? It's so meh. C- grade. It's not obviously broken in any way so it's not a D grade but it's close.
This has TWO floating boat hulls! (Well, one boat hull and one RHI, in a rare color no less!) It also has the short-lived boat motor… an all-around win in my book!
I randomly got one of the figures, 4j008
Well…I like the underwater motor.

I mean, 4655 and 4657 in 2003 kinda bridged the gap.
I now have a newfound love for today's Lego City police sets.
How do we know Jack Stone isn't the guy in the blue hat and sunglasses?
I have this one! Got it as a kid; my brother and I built all kinds of boats around that hull, although the dog chewed on the motor (it still runs, but the rudder is gone). The rest of the parts, except for the radar screen and maybe the boat mast, weren't particularly useful; those big blue "air intake" parts were always tricky to build around
This ain't any ol' boat, this here's a TURBOCHARGED boat.
My cousins had a few Jack Stone sets when they came out, so I got to play with them a bit: the police car, the fire chief car, the little red airplane. They were rubbish, way out of scale with all the other Legos and not very good for building with, because the parts were so darn big. I was a bit older than the target audience at the time, so my dislike of those sets maybe doesn't count for much, but my younger cousins were right at the target age and I don't recall them being particularly enthusiastic about them either. They never had the boat, so I can't say if we'd have liked that one any better, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt as a fun set for play based on @blueshift's experience. A boat hull is a boat hull, and that's a great platform for building all sorts of fun stuff.
I think Jack Stone/4 Juniors gets way
more hate than it really deserves. Aside from the different style of figures, the building style used in those sets is almost the same as the one used today in the 4+ sets.
I think the main reason Jack gets such a bad raputation is mostly due to coming out at around the same time as Galidor and other themes like that.

Dude, that’s not Jack Stone. That guy’s name is Police - Blue Legs, Black Jacket, Blue Cap, Sunglasses, Jr.
Mr. Police, if you’re nasty.
I kinda like the box art, actually! The water is clear, and the town behind them looks warm and colorful.
Ah. The Zelda II of LEGO.
Nah that’s too harsh on Zelda II.
Oh hey, I have some of the parts of this from an old bulk lot, unfortunately lacked the boat motor itself even though the hull from this set was there.
Despite the fact I was the right age for these when they were on shelves, I never had any as a kid. However, I'd like to see people try and use these 4 Juniors/Jack Stone parts in MOCs, it'd be somewhat of a challenge!
Who knew all you needed to turbo charge a boat was strap a giant kazoo to the base of it!
I only have 1 or 2 of the 4Juniors sets, but I have a lot of the Jack Stone sets. Used to play with them all the time. I was a little older than the target demographic, but what they lacked in building fun they made up for in play. I always wanted Jack Stone’s hair as a regular hair piece for a minifigure.

Man, Zelda II rules. I’d love a new game that uses the same gameplay style.
Well, considering I was 4 when Jack Stone came out, I have pretty fond memories of the theme, and I loved the Jack Stone movie.
Though now, looking back I find it kinda cringeworthy and I wouldn't want to collect these sets as an AFOL.
A neat little set except one problem - Jack Stone. Back in the day I saw nothing wrong with Jack Stone but now I see how it was a failed government attempt to invade people's homes outside Central Europe. Also, that weird submarine build shows up in 7899 , which confirms that Lego City is the aftermath of Jack's disastrous adventures.
I ned to get myself a Jack just for kicks. And for my eventual alien minifigs arrive at the MIB terminal MOC.
I had the motor from a different set and I remember it was really fun and cool watching the boat slowly go across the bath. Only problem is water eventually leaked in through the battery compartment lid and stopped working, which I guess is why it was discontinued which is a shame as the axle like attachment is perfect for any moc.
If they brought this set back today I would buy a dozen for all my nieces, nephews, their friends birthday parties etc. Even though 4+ the larger pieces are more suited to the bath than a city or pirate ship (which probably don't float anyway).
Oddly the large cockpit only appeared in 2 sets, as it would also look great on any space or futuristic train/tram moc so must remember to add to my next secondary parts order.
In fairness to those who say "this is not a Jack Stone set; it's a 4 Juniors set," that's accurate and perhaps fair, but it's also pedantry of a sort: no one is confused when the term "Jack Stone" is used as a metonym for any set with those figures.
As those sets go, this is... closer to being something I'd be interested in than most, just by virtue of being a decently-coloured police boat. But within the whole context of representing the most juniorised part of the whole slide into juniorisation from about 1998 till 2003, it's the avatar for part of my least favourite time in Lego's history.
Space Police 3 Boat 6 years earlier, before they went to Space.
It's lunchtime and I still can't think of anything witty. Sorry.
Now to settle the "this isn't a Jack Stone set it's a 4Juniors" argument....
I call this style of figures 'Stoners' which covers the Jack Stone sets, the 4Juniors sets and the ones that came in those green Creator sets. Therefore these sets can be collectively called 'Stoner Sets'. I have decided and that's now the rule !!!

I just remembered that this is one of the few MOCs that I’ve actually uploaded to Brickshelf. As I said last evening, it’s 63pcs (according to my LDraw file, excluding the minifig). So, once you add the minifig (legs, torso, head, helmet, visor), that motorcycle uses 16pcs more than this pair of boats.
I kind of wish Lego would use some of these older non-mini figure molds to make some alien Green Lanterns.
Jokes aside that is honestly a pretty cool boat. As a 4+, had I been around that age I'm sure I would have loved that thing.
The saddest part of collecting Lego when I was younger was having to accept the Jack Stone/4 Juniors sets. Because they were almost the ONLY sets that could be found in most of the stores.
The normal Lego sets were usually the big or huge ones, which my parents couldn't afford. I hate these two themes so much.
@kdu2814:
It’s highly unlikely that these molds still exist. I did the smart thing and bought a bunch of the torsos and legs from the first retail Green Lantern, and then I just combed the Bricklink catalog for interesting minifig heads (both standard and sculpted). A few of them I picked because people would recognize them (superhero Patrick from Spongebob has a green domino mask that practically demands a matching GL uniform), and the latest one was Daffy Duck’s head to make Green Loontern).

That is one sexy motorcycle moc, my friend!
Likes: The main boat (wishes TLG would bring that kind of hull back), and the vehicle 'concept'.
Hates:...well, you know...and "I get it", TLG (or whatever they were at the time) built these...what Middlefigures? Medifigures? Anyway; a figure that doesn't come part easily, but is also bland as plain toast...basically: Playmobile:D.
@PurpleDave: I remember you mentioning building a GLC (Green Lantern Corps, for those unaware), how many members do you have, and would you convert a Death Star for Mogo:) (seriously, that would be an awesome 'set'/'figure' if it were ever made...)
@Gorbor:
Batman likes it. He’s got one that’s black, with the old Castle dragon wings on the sides. I do have two Batcycles uploaded in a different folder (B:TAS and TDK’s Batpod), but not the Bat-Tomahawk, the Dark Knight Returns Batcycle w/ sidecar, or the Bat-Tron and Joker-Tron lightcycles. I also upgraded the Tron: Legacy lightcycles by eliminating the two-tone color scheme (it’s tricky swapping bley for black when it uses parts that don’t exist in black, but I pulled it off), and making a much more accurate lightwall (the original lightcycles has solid-color lightwalls, but the Legacy versions were clear with color only at the edges).
@brick_r:
So, I got started on this back when the _only_ Green Lantern minifig was Ryan Reynolds from the 2011 SDCC minifigs. I found a custom pad-printer who was already selling Silver Age Green Lantern minifigs printed on authentic LEGO parts, and asked about buying just the torsos in bulk. I think I got about 25 of those, but they were pretty plain (green torso, black arms, white hands, lantern emblem in white, muscles in black, no color blocking). When the first retail Green Lantern came out, I hit Bricks & Pieces, and was shocked to find you could buy all four parts used for Hal Jordan. I bought 60 torsos, I think 57-58 legs (short characters didn’t need them), and a few heads for use elsewhere. All of the custom printed bodies got swapped for legit ones, but I still have the custom ones in a bag somewhere (so I can field almost a 100-strong GLC...once I find enough heads for the rest!).
John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and Sinestro were the only canon Green Lanterns I actually made myself. Then they came out with an official John Stewart in that book, so I parted mine out again. Killiwog and Tomar-Re would be great...but they don’t exactly make parts that work for either. So the rest I just made up (aside from adding Cruz and Baz to the mix). I raided the parts to make a few more Hal Jordans when I needed them for other projects, but I’ve got a Toy Story Claw Alien, Patrick and Plankton from Spongebob, Steve from Minecraft, a Grey, a Crystal Skull, three repurposed Chima heads, two Galaxy Squad bugs, three Space Police III aliens, four SW heads (Umbaran, Geonosian, Nikto, and Aurra Sing), three HP heads (Voldemort, Death Eater, and Dementor), three different werewolves, a gargoyle, a snake, Godzilla, a cyclops, an Alien Conquest alien, a Green Army Man ghost, golden La-Loyd, a Travis brick a/ five eyes, a green hood with Jawa eyes, a blank TNO head with a black hood and cape, and what I think was a CMF alien shocktrooper. I swear I also had Dobby (and _maybe_ Yoda, because I know the Claw Alien was not the only short Lantern I made), but I can’t find him at the moment. In cases where I just used the head, I tried to find hair that would help create a distinct identity. I still have 16 unused B&P bodies, plus I picked up at least one spare John Stewart. And because I got several of the Constraction Green Lantern characters for the power blasts, I made a giant Green Lantern using a Constraction Hulk head. I’d like to use some of the upper torso shells to make a spherical Green Lantern at some point, but I don’t use the entire GLC much anymore, so almost everything related to this got back-burnered. Oh, and somewhere I have a Batman Green Lantern from the Elseworlds “In Darkest Knight” miniseries.

And the Blacktron say the Futuron can keep it.
