@ElephantKnight Congratulations! No modifications needed, just pure unadulterated Blacktron! I love your persistence, and it has paid off. Huwbot has blessed you with this gracious gift.

By in United States,

Has anybody bought any Galactic Scout Cookies recently? They’re phenomenal. One may say they’re out of this world . . .

By in United States,

It’s the Blacktron Cadet/Target Corps! Survive your time in these attention-grabbing uniforms, and you’ll prove that you’re worthy of the stealthy black Blacktron I uniforms. Fail...and you are a solution to your own problem.

Looks more like blackandwhitetron to me...

Well, it's no 6080, but I like this little guy. Blacktron 2 pushes some of the same nostalgia buttons for me as King's Castle did: i.e. it predates the subthemes of my childhood and was in a vague "classic LEGO" status.

As an impulse-buy-sized set, it's a decent little build--better parts for its size than that Police helicopter the other day!--with a bit of micro-swoosh to liven your day up.

Betcha that Blacktron 2 Guy is going to love it. ;-)

This fellow would love it as well. https://brickset.com/minifigs/tlm041

I would swap that grille tile with a control panel tile. Also that rocket seems way too large for such a tiny craft; a 1x1 finned rocket would fit much better

@LordDunsany:
You’re talking about the same company that has, at least twice that I actually own, released a set that included a rowboat with a full-size cannon mounted on a turntable. And a “minifig-scale” Tumbler that could drive down the sidewalks on both sides of a street simultaneously.

You're entirely right about the control panel, but I'm going to disagree on the rocket: that massively oversized engine is 98% of this baby's charm. AND it fits with the larger jetpacks some of the B2 figs wear.

@HandPositions

Isn't that @ElephantKnight 's class photo?

No, that would be: https://brickset.com/sets/71029-2/Violin-Kid

Gentlemen. Ladies. I present to you, a perfect set.

The Black!

The White!

The Trans! Neon! GREEN! (Visor........)

WHAT MORE COULD THIS SET OFFER!?!?!

Lego, Huwbot, you can retire now. Internet, you can retire. A perfect set.

In more seriousness, this set could use a LITTLE improvement. The white grill should be that control tile. I admit for a few years, I actually did thought it was the control tile.

Also, that booster engine. That little guy will wish he had a magnificent Trans neon green windscreen to help protect him.

Also, this missed my birthday by a day. Very nice Huwbot, very nice.

6245 is basically the only Imperial soldier set that I don't own/have no desire to own (at least as a set)

That's it! You're voted off the island! :)

@LordDunsany:
Yeah, I got that for Christmas from my brother. But they repeated it sometime in the last 15 years, with a set that comes with half an island and a Robinson Crusoe type minifig. It also comes with another rowboat with a swivel-mounted cannon.

By in United States,

I loved the cockpit-less Space sets. Yes, they make no sense. But when you're kid with only a few dollars that's not an issue at all.

Wings that move up and down. Absurdly large thruster on the back. Smiling Blacktron fun.

B+ set! That's a darn fine grade for a 23 piece set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awwww, it's the cutest little face-melting bad guy ever!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the arrows telling the dude where to sit. Needs maybe a little more trans neon green, but apart from that it's a good little set. Flappy wings are cool!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Definitely needs more BLACKtron...

And @ElephantKnight: I think you will find that the perfect set has to be 6987
;-)

I believe they were the legacy of the many open format CS vehicles of the late ‘70s which were, in turn, inspired by Boeing’s lunar buggies of the early ‘70s. Originally, CS was supposed to represent what a future space/lunar programme might be like, so was intended to be more speculative than it was science fictional.

By in Poland,

An easy way to get some printed tiles, and increase number of minifigs. I think I've got all the small Blacktron sets, and it is the only one theme that I actually wanted to have complete (I really like Blacktron 2).

It's a pity LEGO no longer produce those old hinges, those were cool parts.

By in Netherlands,

Simple yet effective.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Cute little set. I’m still missing many of these small space sets though

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of my absolute earliest LEGO memories is of building this set.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I prob had this set - since we could afford only the cheapest ones, lol :)
Def had this minifigure and was one of my favs. Looked so modern and cool.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I miss the days where you could add a spaceship to your fleet and be entertained for hours all for under $3.

Those hinges were GOLD. So much more possibilities (stud reversal - which would very much help spaceships where wings need to be nice on both side 75316) than what we have now.

This was 23 pieces of pure fun I could buy with pocket money. It looked great and played well. The build is simple enough that a child could copy the concepts in his own spaceships and embellish them, instead of being an intimidating, intricately-snotted wonder that would take an adult days, weeks, or years to figure out from scratch. And yet somehow, it doesn't feel the least bit juniorized.

It was a fantastic set. Am I being objective, or just nostalgic?

You're being objective - this set is small, but it isn't juniorized. I remember my frustration, when in the late 90', LEGO started to produce large pieces and too simplified sets. They started with Town, then Castle and others... 1986-96 is the best decade of LEGO, 97-2007 was the time of troubles. Now they make a lot of good stuff, many great sets, but not a single one, that is both so small and so great.
