Random set of the day: Milk Delivery Truck
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1029 Milk Delivery Truck, released during 1999. It's one of 63 Town sets produced that year. It contains 95 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 243 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Look at the background cows!
And the people of Norway said to the children, "Drink your milk and your bones will be as strong as LEGO bricks! Here, test out what your insides are in for."
*Insert obligatory Psychonauts reference*

Other than the stickers, the only piece that is shown with a low set count is the minifig upper part, though 3305 is cheap to get.
I think I still have this. Great little Town set in the age of Town Jr. Also, I think Huw sourced this for me (so thanks in retrospect!)?
Well that's obscure.

LEGO Town was actually Milton Keynes all along :~P
I don't think it's milk that the driver's been drinking, considering he's parked diagonally and blocked the entire road!
I found this on eBay, back in the day. I don't recall it being particularly cheap, at the time, but it was adorable and I had to own one for my Lego City.
In the late 90s, you took whatever you could for Lego City.
Interesting box art. Kinda looks like some general British countryside, a strange blurry object in the background, a possible Swiss chalet and some crudely photoshopped cows. I can, on a more serious note, appreciate the included ac unit on the front of the box, thats a rarely included detail!
@sjr60:
What, you’ve never heard of Dragon’s Milk?
Never heard of this set, but now I must try to find one. It verily does look like a refrigerated truck with the front container grille, and a cab with a finger-hinged roof alongside working doors always gets my attention. The nose of the truck does seem a bit odd to me though, with those ridged pieces beneath the windscreen and headlights quite low at the bumper. Also, other than possibly butter I am having a hard time determining what the yellow studs on the dolly represent.
Best part: the fact he is transporting blue milk!
Not bad for 1999.
Not bad colours, either, thought, as it often is, the white and Black balance is way off, and the blue really should be trans neon green. Maybe if I invert the image?
There's something about seeing a label for a real company that makes this set better. It's a good little set. It has working doors, so that's a plus. For late '90s Town this is excellent.
I could see this as a 5+ set today. I give it a B+.
I was going to comment on the blue milk. This is the second freshest way to get it. Ask Luke for the freshest way…
In the early 2000 I worked for Tine and one day while in the basement I found among a lot of old commercial stuff an unopened box from Lego with maybe 10 of the set inside! I was in my dark age at the time, but understood that this must be really rare set and expected it to be valuable one day. So I asked a salesperson if I could have it or buy it, but they reluctantly let me have only one set.
So I kept it for a couple of years in the box, then gave in to the temptation and build it. Some years later the stickers just broke apart and fell off, I guess the stickers from that period was really bad (one of the reasons I have stopped applying them to new sets) :S
However I still to this day is annoyed with myself for not trying harder to get the hole box with all the sets :)
Okay so the blue round bricks are milk bottles (of whole milk no doubt), I can get behind that...but what's that he's pushing on the trolley? Do Tine deliver cheese as well?

Maybe they pronounce it like Tee-nuh. That’s how the Dutch would say it anyway, and we have a shitload of cows overhere and cheeses (it is supposed to be cheese on that trolley, right?)
I like the AC to cool the milk in front of the van. Such an easy and effective method.

You're almost correct! It starts with «Tee», but the «ne» is pronounced more like the beginning of «never» than a «nuh».
This was a surprising set to discover, and very nostalgic as it brings me back to my school days, when white trucks very much like this one would deliver milk to our school. And this set was actually released the year I started elementary school :)

Yes, they make Jarlsberg cheese, which I think is exported, so it might be possible to find in other countries as well. It's very good :)
That psychotic smile suggests that he is pushing meat pies from those cows that are unable to produce any more blue milk!
One of the sets you'd wish to have in the main catalog line.
I like the truck designs of this era. This is also not bad, but a little clumsy effort. I think it would look a lot better with a fender piece in front.
Dang opening doors in 1999!
What a beautiful set.
Holly : Cow's milk, ran out of that yonks ago. Fresh and dehydrated.
Lister : What kind of milk are we using now?
Holly : Emergency backup supply. We're on the dog's milk.
Lister : Dog's milk!
Holly : Nothing wrong with dog's milk. Full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other kind of milk, dog's milk.
Lister : Why?
Holly : No bugger'll drink it.
:-)
@ambr:
Better meat pies from the cows than from the barbershop upstairs...
Ah yes, the bane of Paul Blart’s mom.
"I am the milkman. My milk is delicious."
We were kind of a lactose intolerant household growing up, so my parents wouldn't have bought me this one even if it were released in America. But what are those yellow 4073s supposed to represent? I guess it's cheese, from the posts above? Is cheese delivered in Norway? In America, there's a whole bunch of cheeses at the supermarket and you just pick one.
Bought at a car boot sale for £4 MISB about 2 years ago, sold last year for £35 or £40 :) pretty poor design even for 90s. About time we had some narrower versions of those wheels that fit under the fenders
@Interstellarpig:
Why? Now there are better fenders (several types) that fit those wheels.
