Ghost bike! Fitting as we continue to enter the spoopy times.

Amazing what 9 liftarms can do. The highest part piece count (6) is for those half bushings!

And at almost minifig scale you could build a fleet of them for a moto retailer or bike gang. I mean, club.

An eye-catching color scheme, and working rear wheel suspension... I know it's a crude design, but honestly I don't think it's bad for a promotional set.

"Mom can I get one of the new Stuntz sets?"
"No we have those at home"

The suspension elevates it from being just another tiny promo set.

It's a good thing the branding for System is prominent here, or I'd have sworn I was looking at a Technic set.

Edit: Huwbot calls it one of the year's Technic set, but that is clearly the System logo in the image.

It looks like it's about to fall over.

@Norikins: Considering there appears to be no kickstand, I think it may be.

Its only thirty pieces, but its a pretty accurate shape!

I said, “Maaaan, this technic set is not a part of your system!”

Actually, I’m not sure there is a single system part in this set. Maybe the tires or rubber band?

By in United States,

I have nothing to say about this set.. DOH I just said something about it CURSE YOU, HUWBOT!

By in United States,

It's beautiful. I've looked at this for five hours now.

That explains it...I saw a guy, with a flaming skull running after it yelling "GET BACK HERE!!!":)

Really well done for the small amount of old-style Technic parts. For many years, I couldn't build it from my own parts due to not having the wheels, but at least a half dozen or so each of all the other parts. However, I now have the wheels thanks to an older Technic Universal set I bought used that normally is kept separate from my newer LEGO parts.

That seems like way too long but okay, it is nice-looking. You could have spent that time preparing for your next Bionicle lore dump!

Very nice prototype for a self-driving motorcycle.

NEW from Lego..."Motorcycle"!
Named by the same Master Set Namer that brought you classics like 1710 "Snowmobile", 642 "Tow Truck and Car", 1854 "House with Roof-Windows", 3013 "Space Jet", 3225 "Classic Train", and 3220 "My Dad"!

27 Technic sets released that year. Only three of them remains in my mind 8417, 8432 and 8462. The rest seems like filler sets.

By in Australia,

I want to knock it, but it isn’t that bad for 30 pieces.

"So what's the colour scheme for this one going to be?"

"Red and yellow."

"Perfect! A classic combo. Bright and striking."

"Also a random green piece on the back for some reason."

"I-what? Uh, okay I guess."

This must be the prototype model for the new Batman 2022 bikes.

Too bad rubber band suspensions become useless after a few years as the rubber deteriorates with time.

Too bad replacement rubber bands are not available in that case because no one in the world but LEGO produces such a thing...
;-)

The technic axles used for the axles are too long and the technic axle used for the handlebars is too short.

It's surprisingly wholesome to see everyone so postive about this set :)

Green for algae growing on the otherwise black seat??

This, like 1257, was another set I found MISB in a charity shop maybe five years later. I wasn't really interested in the set at all, per se, but hey, *it was cheap Lego* so there was no way I wasn't going to pick it up!

Have to say, it was definitely the better of the two sets. It was so basic, sure, but still effective even for the minimal number of pieces used.

As for the 'System' branding? It was one of three sets, back in the day, that was available as part of a mail-away offer from certain Kellogs' cereals, the other two being 3055 and 3056. I suspect that they simply wanted all three sets for the promotion to display the same branding - neither of the others show their respective theme logos either - and 'System' was the closest to a catch-all branding they had, even though it wasn't strictly accurate in this case.

Well, it's quite neat for what it is and doesn't try to pretend to be anything more.
Only funny thing about this set is that it is branded System, wenn it is made out of 99% Technic pieces. The only non-Technic pieces being the tires if I am correct. The wheels were used quite often in old Technic sets as well as some Classic Space and Legoland Stadt sets in the Eighties and Model Team in the Nineties. Just looking at my parts bin confirms that I have more of this piece than I had remembered, from sets like 6658 or 8855 to name but two.

By in United Kingdom,

Does anyone know how many cereal packets you needed to eat to acquire enough tokens, or did you just send off a few pounds? Similar to 2544, I assume given free if you brought enough petrol.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is it just me or did we have this set like a few week ago???

2544 and the other shell sets were sold in the shell gas station. You didn't need to buy petrol.

As for the motorcycle I don't know how much cereal you had to eat to get this.

I had this one! Got it from a few packs of cornflakes

Just took a quick look through Google images for the cereal box that I remember someone at school showing me when I was a kid. Looks like you had to get three tokens (each box was worth one) and send them off to receive the set for free.

Interestingly enough, the image *does* show the relevant theme logos for each set; it's only the set boxes themselves that fall back on just the System logo.

Wow, I have 3 of this and one of 3056 gocart. I probably got these when I went through my big cereal phase that year. I totally forgot how I ended up with these sets. Now I know. I actually built them recently and my 15 year old son loves them for their simplicity and function.

I remember the promotional Kelloggs strip in the Beano that advertised these sets!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Those Kelloggs cereal promotions in the UK were something I always missed in Germany. As we were on holiday in the UK for a month every year back then I took part in quite a few of the promotions, but it was never a LEGO one during August when we were there - or perhaps I just didn't manage to eat enough packages...
Couldn't happen to me nowadays as I eat cereal every day, even without promotions ;-)

Technic polybag sets (or sets that are small enough to qualify as a polybag) are just sad. Like that helicopter that’s collecting dust at every Meijer around where I live.

@Formendacil:
Maybe the tires trump all the other parts? It wasn’t until a few years after this that they dumped the Technic brand for a couple years.

@CarolinaOnMyMind:
The tires work on a variety of different wheels, but I think they originated with Creator. As for the rubber band, pre-2001, I associate the black rubber band more with System, from sets like Aquazone, while Technic had the colored elastic bands. In 2001, they used black rubber bands for the first year of Bionicle, it they tended to rot within a week of being stretched even once. Since then, the black ones were dropped in favor of colored elastic bands across the board.

@GSR_MataNui:
Have your eyes melted yet?

@Collector_Nonas:
Got an inside line on what the next Bionicle RSotD will be? Because if you don’t, there’s a _lot_ of different options @GSR_MataNui would have to prepare for.

@PDelahanty:
You think anyone involved with 3220 My Dad are still around? I mean, they’re rebooting the Chucky movies, so it does get you thinking...

@Arnoldos:
I’ve got the Sea Claw 7 still assembled from my childhood, in a box full of my childhood collection, with the original black rubber bands on the claw. Still stretchy.
