Another spoopy ghost bike!
It's like getting the Ducati and the Harley Davidson both in one set
1985 TV Series Street Hawk vibes. Jesse Mach would approve.
Teal Grill tiles!
This set has a special place in my heart, it was one of the first Technic sets I bought with money from my first high school job, at Toys’R’Us (RIP).
Which one is the A model?
@namekuji:
Judging by the box art, the runty little bike is the A model, and the fancy chopper is the B. That’s unfortunate, since the runt cycle looks overbalanced, with handlebars that may or may not be too far forward of the front wheel. Maybe. I’m not really sure what constitutes handlebars here. However, the cowling kinda hints at where they should be, and even a light tap on the front brakes should cause you to faceplant. On pavement. With plenty of inertia to really drive the point (that would be you) home.
The main picture looks like they were aiming for a tricycle, but ran out of wheels!
First Technic set for me as well! It was quite nice looking, had it on display for a decade.
Nice bike, love all the tubes!
The chopper looks cool, but that other bike really does look like its a tricycle with a missing wheel.
Yech, too many body panels with stickers. Pass.
Whoa, rider-less technic motorcycles are all the rage now. How many have we had lately?
I know I’m not the first to say this, but we’ve had a lot of RSOTDs without minifigures recently.
The wheels are magnetic?

"man, this looks so ugly and not Lego-like
without the red, brown, yellow axles , the blue, orange pins and yellow and red bushes."
Indeed.
And how on Earth did anyone back then manage to build this without them?
Those silver wheel pieces are so cool! Those parts alone contribute to giving this bike quite a majestic look. I think I'll definitely pick them up from Bricklink at some point.
The color scheme, along with all the tube pieces throughout also gives it a very distinct Sci-Fi look which I also really like!
Just popping back in to say that this set was rereleased as the identical 8430 in 2002. I think the set images do a little better at displaying the model the 2nd time around but other than that just another chance to get the same thing 4 years later.
I still remember how I got it for my birthday. It's still build and on my display.
I’d love to see those wheels used more often.
This set is a classic; those who have it or who have/had a motorcycle will agree. I don’t collect technic, but I couldn’t pass on this any longer when it was re-released in 2001 or 2002. My son built it up years later and loved it too!
I've never been a huge technic or motorcycle fan, but this looks so good that I wanted it! So futuristic! Still have it, including the box. The alternative model, the chopper, is also nice, if rather wonky.
@Brickalili Mag = Magnesium, which is lighter.
A look back at Technic motorcycles:

Coolest wheels ever!
I remember as a kid in the playground arguing over whether this was based on a Suzuki, Yamaha or Kawasaki Superbike, but it is was probably a futuristic mix of them all! I like the working pistons, but the first thing I would do if I was ever lucky enough to own is to replace with front suspension.

I was going for a mag/magnetism joke but if that’s the reality it’s somehow funnier, as I doubt they’re actually magnesium either!
Do you see it? No red or yellow axles, only a few blue pins, a proper V2 see through motor... these were great times. Just take a look at the other technic sets in that wave... 8462, 8432 one year later it got even better: 8445: Indy Storm, 8446: Crane Truck and 8448: Super Street Sensation!

How dare you say that? Sets back then were so user-unfriendly and hard to assemble.
Plus they didn't have cool app-controlled Control+ functions that everyone loves. Just boring pneumatics with airtanks and other such useless stuff.
Don't you see that modern Technic sets are just so much better? And even though they clearly offer twice as much fun they only cost four times as much, making them tremendously good value for money.
Plus they don't overwhelm people with B-Models, or printed pieces.
You clearly don't know what you are talking about.
;-)
I have this urge to build the chopper in the small picture. I've always thought this was one of the cooler bikes in the Technic series due to those silver wheels.
The first Technic set I bought when I came out of my dark ages, and I was amazed at how the range of parts had changed since the early 90s.

I also remember shown i got this for my birthday: not at all! I think I only ever owned one Technic set pre-2000, and this was not it.
