Wait a minute, he's chucking bricks they can use to rebuild the castle after it sustains damage! Use the rounds bricks you oaf!

By in Canada,

I hope he got permission to use the king’s personal catapult. I guess so because I have never heard of the King’s Dungeon or King’s Guillotine sets.

He's saying, 'See the way Lego is going... I have to use a bloody sword to dismantle my catapult'

For catapulting kings.

E’s not a king! E’s just a bloody foot soldier, ‘e is!

Or is this a catapult that’s used to launch kings? You know, with my Viking ancestors, when your term as leader was up, they tossed you in the big next to the previous guy, but I’m pretty sure they just had a couple strapping warriors grab on to your clothes and heave you in.

Maybe he is the king, just incognito?

@CarolinaOnMyMind:...Hmmm...might be some kinda' steampunk 'tuxedo'...and thus, probably with a series of wrenches, pullies, and so forth...:)

That’s what I thought, but he’s obviously run out of kings so is now using bricks instead.

"Medieval Angry Birds"

Aka the original game Crush the Castle, which Angry Birds copied! It was an old flash game and app circa 2009.

Speaking of other old castle-related things from the 2000s internet, there is this AMAZING old castle MOC site that is a classic castle time capsule (and time sink!): https://hoernersburg.net!
I was obsessed with it as a kid and was inspired to build my own castles. Honestly, I'm surprised I haven't shared this to other AFOLs yet! But it has been obscure from attention for far too long!

I only stumbled across it accidentally as a very young kid by (I think) searching google images for "lego cow" because I think I was curious if there were cows like there were horses, but at that point I think there were only DUPLO cows. One of the images I saw was of a cow in a MOC of a stable stall, I looked more closely and alas, it was just a DUPLO cow in a System environment. Then I went to the site, the hoernersburg site, and discovered the cow and stable were part of a medieval farm MOC. I read through the page with images of the house and barn and descriptions of each of the rooms, and thought it was cool. However, the last image of the MOC was of the black 1x1 letter tiles used on the side of a farm building: "<4 HÖRNERSBURG" The caption of the image explained it was a sign marking the direction and distance of the Hoernersburg Lego castle. I don't know why it was spelled with an ö rather than the oe, but I was surprised there was more - I thought that farm was it! Then, I went to investigate the main parts of the site to find the castle, and immediately found it. I was blown away by the scale and detail and historical facts and how well the creator had done his research! I still have never forgotten that day, it was the best LEGO creation my young eyes had seen!

While the build lacks sophisticated techniques and modern pieces, it makes up for it in presentation, even including a "tour movie", even if the "movie" was just a narrated slideshow. Surprisingly the video files can still be easily downloaded - the site is truly perfectly preserved!

By in Netherlands,

Since a few years, we have a king. But catapults are nowhere to be seen...

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Apparently they built a fixed catapult, so they can keep throwing rocks at the same castle in case they need to assault it again. That's smart thinking!

By in Netherlands,

This has to be Graceland then

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think he is smiling because he has just realized that he has built the end of the catapult too high up for him to be able to reach it and press down. He is waving his left hand to indicate that he now needs an invisible piece of string to attach to the catapult.

This set was released the same year I became an AFOL - which wasn’t a ‘thing’ back then. I would routinely be asked by shop assistants how old the person I was buying the set for was to which I would answer ‘older than you!’

Sets used to be produced for several years, so ones from the beginning of the ‘90s were still on store shelves, at least where I was.

I miss the orange hellscape that castle existed in in the 90s

By in United Kingdom,

I don't recall ever having seen this set before - and I was only two when it was released, so I probably wouldn't remember even if I had! - but something about the box art here is EXTREMELY nostalgic for me. I can easily imagine having this set as a kid, and I'm sure I would have loved it... I always found the specialised castle pieces, like the helmets and weapons, to be fascinating.

As it was, I didn't get a Lego Castle set until 6013 (or 6032, a year later than that, if Ninja doesn't count as a traditional castle subtheme). But even so, I have a huge soft spot for the tiny little box-sets like this; even ones I never had, like this, still feel incredibly nostalgic.

By in United States,

I miss these little sets. If they were to be released today it'd certainly be double what it went for back then (I'm not debating inflation or LEGO prices being "cheaper" now than they were).

Which in turn was copied from War 3, circa 1970, readapted to have graphics in Super Artillery in 1980.

By in Poland,

I loved playing with this catapult when I was young. Probably thats why I'm still missing the 1x1 brick.
BTW the foto of this set in the database is literally from the set I own (previous one was bad, so I sent a picture of mine :)
