Well that’s a whole lot of nostalgia wrapped up in one neat little package.

By in United States,

I always loved the Space versions of these

By in United States,

The count is technically more than 25, it's 31, but minifigures used to come with the heads already attached to the torsos, so don't forget that. Such a thing didn't end until the very early 2000s.

Why yes, my fine chef, I too am a connoisseur of fried cheese.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That poor chef. Lego hadn't made a frying pan element yet, so he had to cook on a paddle. Must have gotten messy with stuff sliding off the sides.

The mail printed tile had a good many years of LEGO production until just recently!

By in Canada,

This concept was revisited by LEGO many times over the years and indeed LEGO still produces accessory fig paks even for licensed themes now, but this was among the first.

That red pigtail hairpiece though, quite uncommon.

This was before printed food elements! Could be a lot of things: grilled cheese sandwich, waffle, focaccia…

See above! The stud would hold it on, I think.

Absolute classic. Although we are lucky enough to have so many varieties of minifig torsos, faces and hairstyles nowadays, there is something so charming and timeless about the classic smiley, simple lined torsos and 'LEGO man' hair.

Wonder if we will get some throwbacks in the rumoured 90th anniversary Minifigures series?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I wish we still got sets like these. And updated versions of these torsos would be really useful.

We may have variety in overall lego themes, but within City/Creator it's sadly limited to police, fire, occasional other occupation and then everyone else just about is in a hoodie or sloppy joe.

I don't understand why Lego won't release minifigs in suits, dresses and/or skirts. Plenty of people still wear those articles of clothing!

The other good thing about this set is that apart from the chef really, every torso is non specific to one role. No unnecessary logos, and they are basically just all in shirts or blouses which can be used anywhere. Lego should do that more often.

This 90th anniversary minifig set sounds great, I just hope I'll be able to get all the ones I want. It may end up being the first series where I buy a whole box.

Ah! The very first Town Battle Pack. Just as excellent then as they are now.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

The quickest way I know this particular minifigure pack was not the one we had is that we don't have a push broom.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You know what would have made this set much better? If it was any other theme but plainvanillaTown.

To be precise, it ended in January 2006.

To be fair; in the real world the amount of suits has drastically decreased in the past 2 years.

But in all seriousness; I find myself looking for more cocktail-ish attire (i'm working on a casino) and have more trouble with the women WAY more than the men. At least the men have had a lot of suits over the years, though sometimes just in odd places (e.g. Red Hood). Women are exceptionally rare and only really possible if you go multicultural (non-yellow).

Ah, the classic, simple minifig faces...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember having this pack as a kid, awesome selection of figures if you could not get a larger set like Main Street.

Yeah, it was very weird the first time (last year) when I found out. Somewhat unnerving after nine years of collecting to see something like that.
Also, those spiky hair pieces are incredibly odd. Who the heck has hair like that?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think reanimating these Minifigures will be awesome. Might look into this one for myself.

No it hasn’t. They’re just parked off the coast of LA, waiting to be unloaded.

If not, you know you've met a master of their class.

@Brickchap

Plenty amout of suits appear like in 8402
Fig pack also happen: 8401 60134 60153 with some extra stuff you won't need.
And luckily some of the old minifig are quite cheap to obtain second hand.

By in Turkey,

I have the same chef in every restaurant and food stand and same construction worker in every heavy machinery and garage, but somehow it feels natural. To me, this is an excellent peoples pack with great variety.

I'm pretty sure it's fried cheese :)

By in Australia,

@watcher21 8402 isn't a suit. It's a waistcoat without a jacket. A nice addition, but we need more than that. Also, there's only one suit in Fun at the Park which is for a lady (nothing wrong with that but some men's suits should be included too) and there are no suits or formal/semi formal clothing at all in Fun at the Beach (understandably) so I'm not sure why you even mentioned it?

You are correct about the old minifigs usually being cheap, but it's still nice to get new prints/updated ones. And like I said, I don't see why nearly every civilian minifig has to wear a hoodie and look like some stereotype 1990s American teenager.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Early version of Marvel Avengers in disguise, each with their own secret weapon. I can imagine lots of rotations with that broom, megaphone to drown out all sound, words on that letter speaking louder than action, boiling coffee, branded by the frying pan, and the pick-axe strictly 16+.

It could be a pizza peel. They’re flat to allow you to easily slide the pizza into the oven and retrieve it once it’s cooked. They’re usually square-ish, but are sometimes round like this one. Despite their name, they’re not just used for pizzas.

By in United Kingdom,

Out of these minifigures, I have to say that the one that interests me the most is the chef. As a kid, I always thought one of them would be cool to get, for that hat piece especially, but never did end up doing so.

Though I do prefer other versions of the chef over this one, still. Unpopular opinion, but I've always found the plain smiley faces boring; I like my minifigure faces to have more detail, even if it's just something as simple as the moustache on the chef in 6350. I guess that comes of being a 90s kid; I had minifigures with smiley faces, but I never knew the era when they were all that existed!

Plain smiles or not, though, I always did love these little minifigure pack sets. A nice way to get a bunch of minifigures - either to expand your Lego population generally, or to get the main cast of a story-based theme like 4930 (my own childhood favourite) - for not very much. It's a shame we don't really get the equivalent now... at least, not ones that feel as 'complete' as this at such a low price.

You wouldn't get this many minifigures for around £5 these days...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm pretty sure I had this! It looks so familiar. Those were the good old days :)

If they have to use a paddle to hand you the menu, I’d suggest eating elsewhere.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So glad this made the rotation, I forgot I had this! I'm pretty sure I turned pearl lady into "Mary" from the Lego Ideas book with the torso sticker. But I could never get the correct hair piece to build a complete Mary. (For some reason I remember the two main characters as Bill and Mary, but there's also very little or no copy in the Book, so I'm not sure where I got that idea from?)

By in Netherlands,

Education did similar sets like those not too long ago :

45022 : Community minifigure set

Or larger ones longer ago :
9348: Community Minifigure Set
Or even a Town :
9389: Community Starter Set

But Education aren't sold as sets.

I did love the City People Packs and Starter packs from more recently.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One of my earliest Town sets, always brings back good memories. Glad I still have the minifigures too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really miss that pigtail hair piece. I only own one from my youth. I was pretty bummed when I realized the piece had been re-issued in 2010 and 2012 for the Toys R Us fig packages and I completely missed it *again*. For some reason, I've never randomly bumped into one in secondhand pieces. The white ones are crazy expensive now.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't shake the feeling the lady with the red hair and the push-broom seems to want to be a guitar player in a rock-n-roll band.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the classic Lego era I know and love.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What is the cheese in the chef’s pan supposed to be? Fondue?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I treasured this set as a kid, and I remember being particularly excited about the chef because of his billowy hat. In the last few years, I reordered the parts I had lost during childhood so I could enjoy having these minifigs, restored to their former glory, wandering around my city modulars.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Nothing beats that classic smile!

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Would love something similar to this for the current City line. I have so many cops and robbers and they dwarf my regular person population by a huge margin.

LEGO does currently sell 40344 and 40373. Not much formal wear, but at least they aren't cops or robbers. They are both on sale and were in stock at our local store this morning!

I always assumed that was a pat of butter and he was about to fry something.

Chicken legs were still decades away
