One of the first few CITY sets! I wonder what people in 2005 would have said if we could show them 2022 CITY sets. Would it be good or bad things, considering what World City had that we haven't seen again (train shed!), and do I need to mention the mess known as the mid-1990's - early 2000's Town / City Center?

Man I always hated these huge motorcycles. They were ridiculous looking and completely oversized for LEGO towns. The old ones were so much better.

But now the new ones are certainly better than these. The new shells have many exciting possibilities.

I do not mourn the loss of this ungainly thing.

By in Australia,

I think I had two of these as a kid. I knew one was a reward for attending speech therapy, can't recall the other one.

Basic, but a cute set to purchase with pocket money.

Look at him driving diagonally across the lanes in his big chunky stupid motorcycle that's as wide as a contemporary 7236 car! What a jerk, thinks he's above the law just cause he's the police!

And here we see an example of another of Legos favorite creations: the oversized Police Motorcycle.

By in United States,

I got four of these to use back when I hadn’t built many (proper 6-wide) cars yet. I modded them a bit, with a rigid antenna topped with a blue light. I still carry them around, but it’s as much effort to unpack a car as one of these, and the car fills up over twice as much space on the roads. These days I’d probably only pull them out to make a motorcade.

As for the fairing, I’ve made quite a few motorcycles for Batman and his allies, including the one from The Dark Knight Returns. I also have one with Hit Girl, partly because I just have so many of these in dark-purple. Most Catwoman minifigs have useful torsos, and I regretted not getting more of the first version, so when the second Catwoman set hit clearance, I scooped up a bunch of them.

By in Brazil,

Would come with a weird gimmick and cost $17.99 nowadays.

Should’ve made one in transparent for a Crazy Frog set.

I must be one of the few who think this set is great.

The old motorcycles are so much better!

There would also be a random new mold for the motorcycle and a unique face print.

Looks like something made by a certain other plastic toy brand...

By in Turkey,

The bike looks good but I don't like specialty parts. Defats the purpose of Lego. I got this set as a gift but it didn't fit with my existing town sets. I use newish sets in my town, I have no problem with that. But the size was impossible. It took me long time to find a way to use it in a MOC.

This thing was in every issue of the catalog for what felt like a decade

City launch sets are so nostalgic <3

I remember ordering sets like this by mail out of the lego catalog.

By in United Kingdom,

I buy lots of used Lego city collections, there are 3 sets you can almost guarantee you’ll get - this one, 7741 and 7942

In fact Is there any info out there about best selling Lego sets?

Hot take— this isn’t that terrible of a part, or at least not enough to look like Mega Bloks. Maybe the dirt bikes that they introduced in the Indiana Jones line and most of the motorcycle molds introduced since are better but this one still has a place in my heart despite me only owning two. I used one in Stud.io for a render of my best OC ever, AK-47 Motorcycle Man! The motorcycle looked to-scale, well-proportioned, and recognizable compared to my try at an AK build. :P

By in Norway,

I think a lot of people here fail to appreciate how great it was to get a non-trike police motorcycle and a closed top police car back when City launched. Sure, there have been better models since, but this was something that was missing from the otherwise great World City.

By in United Kingdom,

Now this is the sort of tiny set price point that is sorely missing these days. So many sets come with a secondary or tertiary build this size, but never standalone.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ah, yes, the reboot era! I was tempted though being in my dark ages.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I actually think this is a pretty realistic mould for a police bike. Sure, we’ve evolved a bit more since then, but for it’s time it was pretty good.

My first LEGO set!

By in Jersey,

This looks identical to 7235-2, does it differ in any way or was that one of those instances where you could get it in a polybag instead of a box?

Nope, I think me and @naota_XD think the same, considering it was also my first Lego set! I love this build purely out of nostalgia.

By in Turkey,

I had bought it from a Bricklink seller to complete my shopping a few years ago. It still stands in our living room :)

The parts are identical, but 7235-2 is a version with blue stickers instead of black ones to go with the 2008 lineup of Police sets. I'm pretty sure that box image is wrong for that reason. I believe that at least the 2005 version came with green 'Polizei' stickers as well (not sure about the 2008 edition, those might be black?). It just goes to show how Germany-focussed Lego used to be!

And yeah, this one seems to be ubiquitous of every mid 2000s collection ever.

My first Lego set! I got it from my grandma and grandpa when I was 3. Later I started collecting City and Creator. That year for Christmas I got 65777 and 4954. A year later, I had almost a hundred sets. When I was 4 for Christmas I got 10182 Cafe Corner We had no idea what a fortune this set would be worth years later!

Good to see my first LEGO set being the Random Set of the Day!

I had so many great memories with this set. And the best part is that was what started my love for LEGO.

Good times!

This was one of the first (if not THE first) of my LEGO City set collection. Chunky but charming.

I think they would be shocked by how much more colorful and vibrant LEGO City is today, with its blue police vehicles, unique minifigures, action-packed scenes, scenes about citizens just chilling out, ice cream suits, etc.

@Slave2lego:
I would figure 3177 would show up a lot, considering TRU stocked it quite a bit longer than the 24 months that Brickset notes it being available for. That and an X-Wing from the 00’s seemed to have been held over for unusually long stretches because they would have resulted in noticeable voids in the product lineup. There’s been an X-Wing of some design available pretty much constantly since then, but one this roller skate retired, you had to start spending actual money to fill your city streets.

By in United States,

@Binnekamp:
From Bricklink, 7235 shows black Police stickers, but the sticker sheet includes three of those and three green Polizei stickers. 7235-2 shows blue Police stickers (so Brickset does have the wrong box art), and the sticker sheet is identical to 7235 except all six stickers are blue. Apparently I was mistaken when I said I got four of this, and I don’t remember the black/green sticker sheet, so I must have 4x 7235-2 instead.

No, we didn't. A RSOTD from earlier this month proved TLG had a perfectly acceptable motorcycle. Sure, the scale was off when compared to a bicycle, but it looked better than this.

6346, with the comically dinky minibike the Shriners ride in parades? That’s not a motorcycle. Now _this_ is a motorcycle:

I miss those old Town bikes with the slide-on windshields. Dinky, sure but very cute and scaled nicely with the cars of the time. But I am also a fan of the large faring ones too. They look motorcade ready and beefy for leading processions down an avenue. Not sure why but Ill take just about any iteration and display it in my town.
