By in United States,

Cars parts being used for a sports car looks so weird. It's just so... unaerodynamic looking for a Ferrari.

By in United States,

Wow, i've never actually seen this one. It had a pullback motor?

Wow, it looks so fast…to design! Two minutes, tops.

Still 3rd highest number of terms of set owned, but SC has overtaken it in cost and piece count for me. it will take a while longer for it to get pass Racers (57 vs 39 sets, and they only do 5-6 a year, and I sometimes don't go for all the sets)

By in United States,

This series was really impressive, and featured a new pullback motor I've been dying to see use in a standard set.

I wish Speed Champions would expand their Tiny Turbos/small scale line to more than just a couple polybags a year, and utilize the pullback motor introduced in these sets.

My opinions towards Greenpeace's petty protest resulting in this series/promotion getting cancelled before it hit the US isn't really suitable for this forum. At least they're still cheap on Bricklink.

Sponsored by Blacktron 1.

By in United States,

I don't remember this one, and I was all about the Tiny Turbo like cars back in the day. Guess this was a little after my Racers phase though

By in United States,

I don’t think was released in the United States. My in-laws picked one up during a trip to Malaysia for me.

By in Brazil,

Six of the polybags (30190 to 30195) could be found during a promotional campaign at Shell gas stations in Brazil, the only one that was not made available here was 30196. I wonder where the complete collection was released - each of 6 the cars are owned by ~4100 users, but only 2367 own the minifigure polybag.

By in Australia,

Looks just like the Cars sets from the year before. Curious.

By in Australia,

As you can see, there is a Shell V-Power logo in the bottom left.

This polybag and its line were GWP's at Shell petrol stations in Hong Kong, and I remember my dad going to get refuels every two weeks or so to earn most, if not all, of these polybags.

I loved these polybags, the pull-back motors were the best! As far as I know, they unfortunately never appeared anywhere else....

I am sure there was another series, but I can't remember whether it was released before or after this one :)

There was a second series released two years later, sets 40190 to 40196.

Personally I didn’t have much trouble collecting these as they were widely available in the UK; I’ve even ended up with duplicates of a few of them. The second series, however, had a much more limited run and I only ever managed to get 40194 at the time.

Ah, 'Speed Champions' before 'Speed Champions'...or would that be 'Racers'...?

None the less; though not really my cup of tea, I do like those wheels...wonder if anyone used them on a Minifigure-scale vehicle...

Back when the car licenses were almost entirely Ferrari with a rare Lambourghini and two F1 Williams sets. And a lot of Shell, sometimes not even overtly Shell-related (such as the 1998 mini sets of various themes).
Speed Champions is just Racers with every model being a licensed scale model, and with less variety in subthemes. Since its inception Racers had models at various sizes, road types, motor types, levels of detail and realism, and even various building materials. Technic and system cars were released alongside each other. Cars with 9 levels of pull-back motors. Electric cars. Slammer propulsion. Cars with functions. Tiny Turbos. Remote control cars. Playsets. It had it all.

Sorry, I got a bit carried away there. Racers was just such a diverse and inclusive theme!

If it was "petty", why didn't Jørgen Vig Knudstorp renew the contract, or elicit changes that would have enabled him to do so?

It blows my mind that this line was essentially the predecessor to Speed Champions

@ brick_r:
I don’t know if I’ve used those specific rims, but I’ve definitely used some of that style. It’s a bit finicky, but you can fit two of these rims inside tire 6015/87697/60700. Or, preferably, you can fit one of these fancy rims with one of the dime-a-dozen five-spoked rims with silver paint, so you can get more use out of the less common styles. The result is best for display only, as these rims don’t have a lot of grip on those tires, and nothing short of glue will connect those rims to each other.

Yep and a good one at that!

By in Netherlands,

Got the entire 2012 and 2014 series of Shell Polybags.......except for this single one :-(

Fun little builds and the very compact pullback motor worked excellent! These more or less awakened me from my dark ages....

By in United Kingdom,

I used many of the parts and stickers (and wheels) with a conventional 4×7 chassis to create an ultra-compact, open-top sports car for minifigs.
