By in Canada,

Why would anyone want to capture cannibals? They would never need feeding, I guess.

By in Germany,

It was surprising to see they still used the Indigo Islanders' hair piece after it wasn't used for like 10 years... (actually it would be more like 15 years if you don't count the re-released Islanders set in 2001)

Also the way this cage is build reminds a lot of the one from 7093.

Eunucha! Snip Snip!

By in United States,

I was going to find a part on Brickset, but before I even open the tab, the RSOTD notification pops up with a set that has the part. Thank you!

Jack Sparrow's face looks less like face paint and more like he is infected with horrible alien flesh parasites.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, I don't think Lego would do something like this anymore

EDIT: actually maybe they'd just mark it as 18+

By in United States,

I was never able to disassemble the bars from the white "claw" pieces...

Hahaha, pretty funny, but having the minifig up close in real life can really be the best way to see the little details on it! It is one of my favorite Jack Sparrow variants, apart from the skeleton one and the Silent Mary one!

By in United States,

What happened to the cannibal who showed up late for dinner?

They gave him the cold shoulder.

Why don’t cannibals eat clowns?

They taste funny.

Bone based architecture may look cool, but it's terribly resource inefficient

By in United States,

I wish that there had been more sets based on Dead Man's Chest, it's such a creative film. There are so many incredible set pieces in that movie that would've been great sets. At least the two that we did get (this and the mill) depicted the most memorable sequences from the movie.

By in United States,

It's strange to see a $30 set from a decade ago that looks like a worse value than some $30 sets today.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That bone cage was sure fun as a kid. The parrot was nice to have as well.

What's even worse is that The Curse of the Black Pearl, easily the best of the series only had one.

I’m still bitter that we never got Sao Feng’s Empress.

Anyways, in 2019, I did a pop-in at the boatbuilder I worked for in high school, and it turns out he made three small boats for PotC2 and PotC3. They needed one for each film, but apparently they wrecked one, so he had to build the third as a replacement. Someday I need to find out _which_ boats he built (and also what movie Meryl Streep had a death scene on another one of his boats).

@RaiderOfTheLostBrick:
What’s worse, it wasn’t even the Black Pearl! Actually, you could argue that 30130 is from the first movie. Then again, you could argue that it’s from
The fourth movie…

Is Johnny holding a mega pint?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Did Huwbot select this set due to the ongoing disputes between Jack Sparrow and Mera?

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

This set rather well captures what Johnny Depp must be feeling these days.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I see the tribe has learned from its mistakes in the film and have replaced the easily torn ropes they used to use to suspend their cages with a nice sturdy metal chain!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The light nougat guys are the cannibals right?

What did the cannibal say to his dinner guests when they arrived?

Pleased to eat you.

lego has had some deeply embarassing depictions of pacific islanders over the years (including way-too-recently with ninjago) but this takes the cake. thanks disney

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Random cannibals. Today's world is nuts, so it's okay.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Eat me, eat you, incredibly delicious too
Gourmet, flambe, serve you up an entree
Intake, home bake, you're the icing on the cake
Full up, can't stop, dicing on a chop chop

See that's the problem! It's much easier to toss the prisoner some stale bread than it is to keep getting new prisoners to feed the old ones. If I wanted them dead I wouldn't have locked them up in the first place!

By in United States,

Mega Bloks had the license during the first film and their own pirate line running along side over populating the building toy aisle for a long time. I think Lego had to shift to the second film to avoid buyer confusion. Like it or not, MB was a common clone in the US at the time.

I remember Jack escaping from cannibals, but cannot place a cannibal escaping? Wonder why there are so many skeleton heads and no bodies, maybe there is another set with headless skeletons? Strange timing with Jack getting a roasting in real life!

By in Netherlands,

I just watched this film almost exactly a week ago. Tonight it's At World's End's turn.

I must say the value of this one wasn't great when it came out. But it's nice that we got it at all! 2011 was a different time. Then again, there's 71747 from last year. But at least that is a clearly fantasy culture, what with their purple skins and storm powers. Also, in the show they're depicted as protective but noble guardians that are tricked by an outside force but quickly become allies after the ruse is revealed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

At the time I always thought this was expensive for what you got, it's one of the few smaller POTC sets I never got, despite loving the Jack Sparrow variant here.

Um... you mean Caribbean?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Is Lego sure they're cannibals and not just so mad over their house only fitting 2 people they try to kill anything they see?

The same technique is used in Parisian Restaurant, and the pieces are essentially inseparable unless using e.g. pliers.

By in United States,

I happened to open a sealed one of these yesterday… what a coincidence

my geography is just that bad. i thought they were the same place because hawaii is (appallingly still) considered an american state, but its actually 2,000 miles from the rest of america. incredible that i made it 25 years without finding all this out sooner, but still not quite as embarassing as the legos we're looking at here

Gravatar
By in United States,

I loved this set as a kid. This one and the watermill/church building were SUCH a good combo.

@umptybagger:
Unlike EU membership, once admitted to the Union, statehood is permanent. Only Texas worked in an exit clause, but by invoking it to join the Confederacy, they created uncertainty whether Congress would honor it if invoked a second time, or if the terms of their surrender invalidated it. Like the other 48 states and DC, Hawaii has no such exit clause, and walking away would require both a Constitutional Amendment and an act of Congress. Where EU member-nations retain sovereignty upon joining, US states have only as much as was outlined in the US Constitution, none of which includes any means of negotiating their way to independence.

Territories are not bound by the same rules. Puerto Rico may have less rights than a state, but in one regard they have more. As a territory, they can petition Congress for statehood, to be granted independence, to become a free protectorate like Micronesia, or they can just let things remain as they are. While permanent, statehood also can’t be forced on an unwilling territory. Over several votes held in Puerto Rico, a clear choice of action has thus far failed to become apparent, so Congress has left the matter on the back burner until the citizens of Puerto Rico can collectively make a decision.

It's great that you're attributing it to Disney in this case but I don't see what makes the islander wave of Ninjago that terrible. Fantasy versions of Asian mythology like oni and djinn didn't get this kind of reaction, I'm not sure what makes Seaword or whatever that wave was called different. As for this set specifically, the "black cannibal native" trope probably wouldn't fly with LEGO today but (as cliched as this statement is, it applies to the decade between the release of this and now), times change. Unless they're gonna do a remake of Red Indians from the 1970s or something I don't see a reason to cancel LEGO.
