Random set of the day: Red Race Car Number 3
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1477 Red Race Car Number 3, released during 1991. It's one of 22 Town sets produced that year. It contains 39 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 2,280 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Okay, that's kind of cute.
Can’t argue with that name.
But I thought 6605 Road Racer was number 3...

My first Lego set :)
Okay so I was thinking about this today at work again and I don't think I brought it up with the last two racers this week so I'm gonna bring it up now.
They really need to make a LEGO Racers 3 videogame.
There was going to be a LEGO Racers 3 back in the day, but there were complications, and I think it ended up becoming something else. There was a highly limited release game called something along the lines of Portal Racers a few years back, but it wasn't really the same thing as the first two LEGO Racers.
With how popular multiverse/crossover content has been these last few years, and how much LEGO has loved making Legacy content lately, LEGO Racers 3 feels like a no brainer. Take one minifig from each LEGO original theme, give 'em a car, and slap 'em on some racetracks! It'd be a dream come true! Rocket Racer finally got a physical release with Stunz last year, I know LEGO remembers those games!
App integration is al TLG's rage these days, and they're on pretty good grounds with Nintendo. Get Nintendo to rework that Mario Kart Home Circuit physical toy they made a few years back to make it compatible with LEGO bricks and make another videogame RC hybrid. That would be significantly harder to pull off and market, but it might be cool.
Only real limit I could see is physical sets. An actual line of $10-15 racers for like 40 different LEGO themes would compete too much with Speed Champions. Then again the first two LEGO Racers didn't actually get sets, and hey a guy can dream!
Same as 6509 but not as evil.
@MeisterDad:
Or is it _more_ evil, for concealing it’s true nature?
I have this one - kinda fun when that happens with RSOTD.
Ah, childhood memories, my first Lego set, and it was in Taiwan in the early 90s!
So that's supposed to be a rocket jet poking out the back there, right? Going the land speed record I see
It's so tiny and cute! I love sets like this! They're so charming.
Not to mention super affordable!
@Meisterdad but how can something this cute possibly have an evil twin? That Red Devil would have to exceptional at hiding it... unless that's the 1991 smiley equivalent of an evil grin!
Okay now I see it.

One of my first sets as well!
Plain parts, simple build and yet so irresistible.
As a kid I thought the engine brick with a grill piece on each side, placed on jumper plates, was highest level Lego engineering.
I wanted to say I have this one, but I think it's just one that looks a lot like it and came with the number 3 red slope. BEcause I don't remember that engine at all.
The other two cars evidently crashed.

Well, competition doesn't sleep, so the tweaked some parts here and there and gave it a new paint job. Also, with racing stripes. Everybody knows what racing stripes do, right?
@MeisterDad Personally, I believe THIS is the evil twin of 6509. Might also be a transporter clone as 6509 is the upgrade of 6605
One of the first sets I bought with money I'd saved up. I took ages to decide which of the smallest Lego sets to buy in the shop. This one won the battle with 1480 and 6812 since I didn't have any other space or castle Lego at all.
I miss builds like these.

He got a new car, racing cars don't last 7 years...
Interesting, this and 30589 has the same number of parts, 39.
Comfy
@GSR_MataNui: That could-have-been Lego-Racers-3: are you talking about Drome Racers? And I agree, a racing game with multiple themes could be fun; sort of like Smash Bros. in racing form.
All kinds of nostalgia with this little set…!
Cute enough, but this was part of bonus pack 1476, and the real prize in there was 1479.

This statement is true.
