But otherwise, nothing to poke fun at, this looks pretty neat.

I thought I was aware of all of these ferry sets. Now I’ve learned about a new one. Thanks!

    By in Turkey,

This could have been an interesting collection. I remember later ferries having openning rear doors, allowing vehicles inside the ferry. Found it, 1548.

Lovely to see this. It is so quintessentially 'blocky' and somehow all the more charming for it. A great choice for vintage set of the week and which one evokes my memories of early days with Lego (and its creative possibilities).

I have travelled on this ship. It’s a really, really big boat.

Aren’t these the ferry’s people get on in the weekends to get drunk because alcohol is cheaper in there?

I was thinking this could be a great budget alternative to the Titanic…but then remembered this is vintage Lego so probably costs the same if not more by this point

Basically, yes. The alcohol is tax-free. As well as everything else.

It's bad enough finding space for all your Lego, but finding somewhere to park a ferry must have been a nightmare!

Sometimes I forget how well-detailed vintage sets could be if they didn't attempt to make shapes that were too outrageous. From a distance it actually looks almost modern! During my youth I experienced the times before and after the curved parts of the early 2000s. It still amazes me how those are not needed with the right scale and creative design work.
It makes me miss the days before the widespread phobia of studded surfaces in sets.

The Finnjet really did. The only ferry in the world which was powered by gas turbines. Much faster than a conventional ferry.

I remember a Finnish boy on my street who had this set. I was quite jealous...
500 parts was quite a big set in those days.

Wow - the design of this craft has really evolved over the years. It's a nice set, but I think that I prefer 76126.

Bought this with the box some years ago, as it was rather unique.
Just wondering what to do with the yellowing. This set has a lot of rare transparent 1 x 4 plates that are hard to replace.

Wow 92 clear 1x1 plates must have been really special back in the day, together with 24 clear 1x4 plates. I never know there were 2x3 and 2x4 clear plates, I just remember 2x3 clear bricks in petrol station pumps, and 1x2 clear bricks as car windows etc.

Those Fins don't mess about, putting jets on boats and the like

    @Galaxy12_Import:
The flashier and far more expensive ferry company that serves Mackinac Island uses jet-assisted ferries. They have two hydrojets to give them a speed boost. One is aimed up at a 45° angle, creating the distinctive rooster tail seen behind some jet-skis, which I’d guess is how those got their name (instead of a prop, they have a tube that pivots to steer).
