Hey! Somebody better tell the Brickolini's and Pepper Roni that their pizzeria is on RSotD!

...but please don't tell the Brickster.

(If you haven't ever played LEGO Island 1 or 2, you need to. Now!)

By in Australia,

This was a present in 1994. I still have it, proudly making pizzas for my Lego city.

And 3 minifigs? I remember being impressed by that, back in the day. Like, that seems like a lot of people for a small-ish set.

By in Australia,

Absolutely one of my favourite classic sets. May as well have been the Mecca of all my LEGO towns back in the day.

By in United States,

I was so happy when they made a pizza tile on tan, instead of these lemon-crusted things. Also, I’m pretty sure I’ve built minifig-scale motorcycles with higher piece counts than the delivery Cozy Coupe.

By in United States,

Loved this set as a kid. Never got it but maybe I should change that

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember thinking how awesome the pizza tile was, and this set came with 5 of them! That's stayed with me to this day, and I love every new food piece even if they are not nearly as rare.

By in Italy,

Such a perfect little Town set.

Loved the playability of being able to load the pizzas from the oven into the slots in the back of the van.

And of course it being in the Lego Island game added a whole other dimension to the set.

I don’t have the original, which came out during my dark ages, but I did get that 2002 Legends reissue, so… all good! I just wish I’d gotten multiples.

Mama Papa Brickolini
Will not cook you no linguini
Don't you know we specialize
In one thing, that's the pizza pie
If you think the family's ready
For a plate of good spaghetti
Sorry if it makes you cry
But all we've got is pizza pie!

By in Poland,

This is set that NEEDS to be updated. I know we get a WAY better Pizzeria with friends, but still!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Such a sweet looking set. I wouldn’t think 1994 though. Looks more like a 1980 set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So much nostalgia in this comment section. Not just for the set, but for The Lego Island games.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had this as a kid. The coolest City set EVER. We never had enough restaurants in City!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man I was in a negotiation to buy this set from someone and have since forgot about it! I’m gonna go see if it’s still there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I regret not getting the 1994 version right after my 1st Dark Age ended. The re-release was during my second Dark Age. Timing really did not work out for me on this one. It's still on my wanted list...but I may just buy the pieces from BnP (or whatever it's called now) to re-create it with modern pieces. I don't think much would need to change.

By in United States,

Did anyone ever convert this set to 12-volt train engines?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Such a simple model but I always wanted to get my hands on it. Was this the same pizzeria they used in LEGO Island?

You'd think 6350 would be an obvious choice, but none of the LEGO Island games' pizzerias are actually based on sets. Even the unreleased 6500 doesn't quite match the Brickolini's establishment, although it comes close.

@Reventon:
Set design kinda stagnated a few years after minifigs came on the scene (basically as long as it took to change from designing models to set beside minifigs to ones that minifigs could actually interact with) and didn’t really change until after Star Wars came onto the scene. At that point, they started making much larger sets as the SW UCS subtheme got off the ground, while Town got downgraded into Jack Stone and helped push them to the brink of failure. It was World City that really marked the first new growth in Town design, which only came after management of the company transferred outside of the family.

@Gyra:
Um…what? It’s a building with a road delivery vehicle, and a walk-up window. What’s to convert to trains?

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of my favorites as a kid, and a staple in my town! So simple yet so effective. Remember when we could get a building, vehicle, and a few minifigs for $15? Dang I'm old.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of the first sets, as a Legends set, that I got when coming out of my dark ages.... Nice little set, and did not have to have someone trying to rob it either.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No dine in available.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of my most favorite town sets. I had the rerelease version

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Got this from a secondhand lot by pure luck. I'll never let it go. Lego in it's purest form.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Easily one of the classic town sets. Probably should hunt it down…

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

I so wanted it as a kid. Often had been recreating it with the pieces I had.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Super Supreme on a classic crust.

Lucky to have this set. Great little build, just a classic brick build with no oversized specialized parts. Classic LEGO. Only negative is the stickers over multiple bricks. I remember cutting the stickers carefully so the bricks would break apart.

This set needs a redo with all the other cool 90 year celebration sets popping up now.

Nah, it wasn't so much stagnation as it was slower growth than today. In the 90s we've gotten more and more head designs. Sure, they were basic, but they were a far cry from everything being the same smiley. We've got more original themes than town/castle/space with Pirates in 1989, then Aquazone, Western, Time Cruisers etc. Sets kept to the same style, but a 1991 set is very different from a 1996 set already.
It wasn't Star Wars and Jack Stone either. Larger, highly detailed sets were a thing with Model Team for quite a while already. Around 1997 lego started to shift some things internally to deal with its declining profits. So they started to experiment. A lot. Scala, Star Wars, Technic Competition, the first video games, Jack Stone... they were all because Lego was trying to throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Stuff like Star Wars and Bionicle were succesful. Changing Town to Town jr, City Center, and then Jack Stone was to try and appeal to the crowd of kids that had no interest in or patience for building. And overall the stuff led to the financial near-bankrupcy of 2003. World City was yet another reboot attempt. Only with City did Lego get back to basics again.

By in United Kingdom,

Sets like this always have such a charm to them

Gravatar
By in France,

in the 90's I was too old for Legoland (I thought that), but I liked it. And I missed the Legend reissue, in the early 00's. Recently I gathered all the parts to build it. I love the simple design of it. And 3 minifigs for 152 parts is cool !

Gravatar
By in Italy,

good set, beautiful in its simplicity (today it would have x4 pieces almost!), but I don't know why it is so celebrated ... the real masterpiece was 6376 , still in the Legoland era

Both. Both are good.

By in South Africa,

Pros:
I've got this set and it was really great when I originally got it - the pizzas were the first food my minifigs could eat!

Cons:
My biggest issue with it is the STAMPs on the main logo and the sides of the delivery truck, which made it near impossible to wash these pieces when I got out of my dark(gray) ages.

Wishlist:
Please release a modular building for this!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I Like the upstairs inaccessible tower which would make a great home for seagulls who like stealing pizza!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@PDelahanty: You'd need to find something else to use for the van's rear doors, as Lego doesn't make that window frame or those shutters anymore, and I think the slope used for the roof is out of production, but other than that, you should be good. (And none of the printed minifig pieces are still around, but those aren't integral to the model and can be easily replaced.)

@Be_hapi : I guess you're not counting the little table with the umbrella, then.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

My first, non-car-related town building! Meedless to say, the STAMPs from the van are gone =(

@ambr 15 Pizza gabbiano con aglio is the hot seller of the house!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was gonna say the pizzeria was being robbed while they were out, since none of these minifigures work there in the Lego Island games; but I suppose the chef could actually be a younger Papa Brickolini? Before his moustache turned grey, before he grew his eyebrows, and before he settled on the waiter tuxedo torso as his signature outfit...

On a side note, I got one of those pizza pieces from a Bricklink order a few months back. They're a very nostalgic piece for me due to the Lego Island game, but I've never owned any; so my Pepper minifigure was never able to do his job as a pizza delivery boy when I was a kid, because the Island Extreme Stunts sets I had didn't include any of them. So now he can finally do his job!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Still one of the best Town sets ever made.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My brother owns this, but I'm sure my 6644 Road Rebel and 6534 Beach Bandit were frequent customers.

It's referring to the discussion at https://brickset.com/article/53935:

'And another poster replied, "It's Lego. You could convert Pizza-To-Go into 12 volt, if you wanted to."'

... Now I'm wondering if anyone's done it, too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Binnekamp:
I was referring more to minifig themes in general, and Town in specific. New faces came from Pirates, but faces alone don’t represent any changes in set construction. Other non-Town themes also don’t bear any relation to Town development. The mere existence of Aquazone doesn’t change the fact that this set looks like it could have been designed in 1980. World City introduced 6-wide vehicles, and SW UCS broke open the $100 ceiling most themes experienced, leading to Town/City-adjacent lines like Modulars and Winter Village, as well as sets like 60125, 60266, and 4207.

What’s ironic is that things have kinda reverted in terms of set design, even when set size has remained larger than during the 80’s and 90’s. 60271 is just a large, expensive collection of tiny sets, and runty little 4-wide vehicles are firmly entrenched again. City has become Town-for-tots, while Creator and other Town-adjacent themes (DC, Marvel, Ninjago, etc.) is where most of the more substantial Town-like sets seem to end up.

But for a little while, it did seem like they were really trying to move beyond house-of-cards construction, as other minifig themes have done in the past two decades. For some reason, where long-time AFOLs have been brought into the company and kicked set design up a few notches, they’ve all ended up in themes other than City. It’s like they give new hires a design aptitude test, and if you demonstrate any sort of complex techniques, you get assigned elsewhere.

@SDlgo9:
Totally forgot about that, but apparently great minds really do think alike. Past-me and present-me both made a joke about lemon-crusted pizza!

Gravatar

@L_go: Very cool. I love the pic of them fighting over the pizza.

By in Germany,

I missed out on this back in 1994. Lucky me there was a n exact re-release (unlike many others that had modified parts in the Legends series) in 2002^^

I really like all those printed parts (and the tap element!).

Lovely little Town set, that perfectly fits the style of the era. It probably was the inspiration for both the cancelled 6500 Holiday Village as well as the Brickolini's Pizzeria in Lego Island 1. With that many Pizzas it also goes well with TMNT...

This set was briefly mentioned in the Time Cruisers audio dramas, it is mentioned by it's German catalogue name 'Paules Pizzeria' which implies that the Chef's name is Paule. He is also a playable character in Lego Legacy, where his background story says he moved to Lego Town from his former Cafe in Paradisa.

Same, i LOVE this set, but it is probably the worst set EVER for stickers across multiple pieces. The sign up top is across two 1x8 bricks and the entire back construction of the delivery van is about 20 pieces held together by stickers on either side. https://i.imgur.com/ofYTU0D.jpg

@TeriXeri:
It’s worth noting that, while the set inventories claim the same print, the set images show a significant difference. This has 18 green dots, eight red semicircles, and orange sauce with lots of yellow bits. The food pack has the same 18 dots, but they look more brown. The sauce is red, so the semicircles aren’t evident. The red is over saturated, so the yellow bits appear smaller. It really doesn’t look like the pizza print in the set image. I can kinda see how someone who doesn’t actually eat grapefruit regularly (seeds are whitish with a bit of brown) might mistake them for citrus slices.
