By in United States,

I wonder if this is a reference to 6682 and to a fellow Andersen. Henrik Andersen designed this set, and Steen Sig Andersen built the other. Coincidence? I think not!

By in United States,

The drum parts are very cool and the cement mixing function works very well. Surprisingly, the stickers on my copy are in great condition despite being heavily played with, something I can’t say about other City sets I have from this era.

By in United States,

I remember this was the City set that got the most attention in my LUG that year, probably followed by 7991, 7998, and maybe 7944.

@Mr__Thrawn:
You’ve mixed cement in yours? I mean, it won’t fit a very large batch, and it probably tears up the plastic something fierce…

A very pretty set :)

Cute little early city set :)

It has to be. I had the original, and when I saw this I knew it had to be an update. I actually ended up purchasing three because I needed the huge blue space parts for a giant starfighter.

I love this set!

By in Australia,

I remember I was with some friends when I bought this set, and they remarked how fantastic it was that Lego would feature, not just the typically-dramatic police cars and fire engines, but just regular trades-people and service vehicles like garbage trucks and cement mixers.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

There is 60325 : Cement Mixer Truck this year with similar feature, but the cement mixer is shorter at 3x6x8 instead of 3x6x10

Also while the figures/tools and playfeatures are nice, it's still a very simple 4+ truck for the rest of it.

By in United States,

Is he wetting the concrete down, or is this some fantastic concrete shooter technology that we aren’t lucky enough to have in the U.S.?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@TeriXeri: 60018 also includes the function, as well as including a chute for the "cement" that can be moved left or right.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of the City sets that helped turn the company around in the mid 2000s. I love it!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Lego also did a Technic version of that one: 42112.

I was wondering what is the difference between cement and concrete so I figured might as well share: Cement is actually an ingredient of concrete. Concrete is a mixture of aggregates and paste. The aggregates are sand and gravel or crushed stone; the paste is water and Portland cement. Portland cement is not a brand name, but the generic term for the type of cement used in virtually all concrete, just as stainless is a type of steel and sterling a type of silver.

Interestingly, they add: Therefore, there is no such thing as a cement sidewalk, or a cement mixer; the proper terms are concrete sidewalk and concrete mixer. (see the name of this set vs. the name of the Technic set)

I miss Great Vehicles sets like this. This is a great truck. It's a great toy. It looks fantastic on an AFOL's layout. It has broad appeal.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a lot of vehicle for 14.99

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

@TeriXeri: Yes, I've considered getting the 4+ set at some discount for the minifigures and other stuff, but I'm not a fan of the yellow drum because I want my mixer to be a different color from the yellow construction vehicles in 10734.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Do cement mixers normally have a nozzle to spray it out like that? I've only ever seen them have to dump it out by tipping the drum

It's a concrete mixer and concrete pump all in one...no need for separate trucks anymore.

Heck, mine is still sitting in its sealed box. I really need to open up my backlog and get to building these things I’ve been stockpiling for so long.

Maybe applying shotcrete to basement walls? Although needs to get the truck down there.

From the the designer's BrickList note:

"This was a huge task in element design, to get the mixer element to mix in one rotation orientation an d to empty in the other orientation - I am a huge Truck fan, so I was very proud to make this set, colour scheme is a tribute to one of my childhood favorites 6682, originally designed by my long term collegue Bo Eggert"

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

This will still sell good if released today.

Gravatar
By in Jersey,

This is a superb set and a great modern reinterpretation of 6682 as already mentioned. Those stickers on the two part drum pieces are a total pain to get lined up properly though!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Combine this set, and 60018 and you have twin engines for your Classic Space MOCs, with 'hull blue' and 'wing grey' halves ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I bought this set from a Lego store in the Copenhagen Airport during a layover once. It’s the only time I’ve ever been and likely will ever be in Denmark, so it’s pretty special to me. Also, I work in the concrete industry, so doubly special!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

What a weird coincidence!

I own this set, and this is the most recent set I've bought, together with 7998. Although I'm waiting for the month to end so I can build it after I order one lbgrey pins connector, which was missing from my second hand copy. Those are surprisingly expensive on the aftermarket!

I used to own this set before, as I bought 66194-1 City Super Pack in 2007 but eventually sold all constituent sets. The last few years I've been on a mission to slowly recover everything I've sold from my youth, and at last this one is mine again (still have to build it)!

As far as City sets go, it's average to slightly above average, although at the time it was a good step forward from its contemporaries due to the snot used to mount the front and sideview mirrors.
But at the end of the day it's just a truck. And one that was still from the era of sticker horror stickers. You know, the ones that start to dry up and crack and peel and pulverize over time... good thing I found one that was still in good condition. Let's hope it stays that way!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This and 7991 Recycling Truck, also released in 2007, are two of my absolute favourite City sets. Subsequent versions have been more realistic, but these models advanced the SNOT radiator grille and headlight construction which has become ubiquitous today.

By in Denmark,

One of the first sets on my way out of my Dark Age. My (then-)girlfriend had absolutely no understanding for adults building LEGO, so I had to hide it in the back of my closet, like if it was porn or empty whiskeybottles. As soon as she wasn’t home, the LEGO got out, and I was having a party :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember this City set was hard to find back in the day. I think I may have ended up buying it at Legoland. Was one of my favorite City vehicles at the time.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have this, the drum makes a great sound when you turn and the round pieces slosh inside.
Also appeared in every City Super Pack that year. The drum part 57792 was soon discontinued which is a shame as also appeared as engine housing in 70605 and 42052, as well as clever submarine body shaping in 8075.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This set is an absolute classic. And I regret not getting it, when it was available. I remember this, alongside the garbage truck getting all the attention in the Polish LUG, back when it was released.

Obviously you had the wrong priorities then, when someone makes you choose between your LEGO and them, the answer is always your LEGO.

6682 was my fist thought when I saw this, so I bet you’re right on the money!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the best City truck ever made. My sister-in-law asked me to put her childhood Lego sets back together. When I got to this one, I was floored with what a great build it was.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

It's nice to see the classic overalls torso.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Its sad that something like this nowadays would cost 30-40

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Right from the start of City's glory days.

It's a vacuum to suck up cement. That explains why he's pulled over to the side of the road, to clean up some that somehow fell out of the drum.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@CapnRex101 I totally agree with you. I own all of 7990, 7991, 7992, 7993 and 7994 and all of them have a special place in my heart - the harbour and this particularly. I was going through my unbuilt collection (stored in zip wallets) today and found this, and was thinking I should build this and the other one I have the parts for somewhere. The construction sets are particular favourites of mine…

Gravatar
By in Australia,

One of my top ten City sets. I think I got as a gift from my half-sister back in ‘08 or something like that. Great little model, and I love the complexity behind it. I’m going to have to rebuild it!

That set looks great as well, love the Cabin that can be tilted.

Personally, I like 60018 better overall for that reason...it's more realistic. However, I do prefer the color combo of 7990.

Man, if only it were possible to rebuild one set in a different set’s color scheme, amiright?

Thanks...that thought never occurred to me before. You're telling me I can take Lego sets apart and mix the pieces up? What a novel idea.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@DaBigE:
I mean, maybe? I know I’ve been able to build copies of my own designs in different colors, so it seems like it should work with sets. Unless they send the LEGO police to arrest you. Ooh, maybe that’s why half of all City sets are police? Good thing I don’t buy City sets, huh?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I built this yesterday because of it being the RSOTD that day :)
For that I had to borrow the missing parts from other sets currently in storage, but for the time being it works out!

It's better than I remember.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice set!

I usually passed over every decent dump truck, garbage/recycling truck, and cement mixer in the lineup. Now, LEGO relegates these things to the 4+ range, which I wish would again be separated from the regular ranges; as the designs are awful.
