Ah yes, the one that got away.

I miss those cool hook on containers with the string and rubber band. Great set!

By in Australia,

All of the 666- vehicles were super-excellent. I remember not collecting enough of them, when I was younger.

I feel like these vehicles were proof that you can have awesome City vehicles, just at a 4-wide scale.

EDIT:
This set lacks the refinement
of 6693."

What it may lack in refinement, it more than makes up for in utility. So many possibilities with the hook loading system.

…is that a sticker over like 5 pieces?

The one surviving of my like 6 or so copies was never disassembled after I First built it, because It's practically Impossible to remove a piece from the Container without damaging the 2 Stickers. Especially If you placed it exactly as intended...

I have a few loose Stickers lying around here as well, of cause they won't stick to anything anymore^^

Anyways, this is actually a very fun and cleverly designed model for such a small Set. I love that arm mechanism, however it includes both a String and a Rubber Band, that can easily get damaged or lost. This Set ist really Not collector friendly :D

It was also Part of a larger Dacta Set, that had It's instructions printed on a plastic Plate, with a Road printed on the reverse.

Well, it’s a 4-wide, so parts collection seems like a good place for it. Like RPOTD today, it could really use an exclamation point, though…

Great little set! The only problem are those STAMPs…

I like the mechanics of the dumpster lift on this vehicle

Beautiful, beautiful set. Those were the days. 6 stud is overrated.

By in Jersey,

Love this, never disassembled mine since building it in 1992, though never applied the stickers. Unfortunately thirty years worth of tension of the elastic band has splayed out the fingers on the 2650 hook slider hinge a bit, so it no longer operates quite as it should.

The size of the cab, placement of the winch, and design of the rear of the truck don't allow for many sturdy places to attach the tools.

"Recycle Truck"??? I don't know, first TLG has us Firing Boats, now this; what's next: Mailing Planes???:)

By in Belgium,

No, you recycle truck!

Considering STAMPs, I think it's valid to buy used sets missing them and still declare them complete. They made the parts unusable if kept together and went off quickly if they were cut.
This set may not me as great as 6693, but it's still a cool refuse truck and a worthy representative of the awesome 66xx series.

By in Netherlands,

One of my brothers has this one. Before I left for Germany I started rebuilding lots of the small lego town vehicles that were spread across multiple Lego bins but I think I put this one off because I couldn't stand the idea of building something that would turn out incomplete (the stickers, you know...). I would love to piece it together again, as well as the older garbage truck.

I had so much fun with this little set. I never applied the stickers, so I could rebuild it or use its pieces elsewhere as often as I wanted to. And as others have said, the hook mechanism was a blast to play with.

@sid3windr: In Soviet Legoland, truck recycles YOU!

Nice one! Still got mine on the shelf, ready to serve the city’s needs.

This set also appeared in 9365 , where there is a clearer picture of the hook arm in action, although I have never seen a recycle truck like this and prefer the usual container version from 4564 which works really well with the ramp for loading onto the train.

I remember seeing the set for the first time a few years ago in a 2nd hand shop. It just looks weirdly modern, especially from this image. The image on brickset in particular is so incredibly crisp that it reminds me more of a 1996 set instead of a 1992 set.

Today this set would be 6-wide, have hyper-realistic detail like little rollers under the multiple wall-built container and, being a City set, cost $60.

Looks like my comment vanished instead of getting posted?
This was one of my last (if not THE) last Town sets I received, a big plus on this one was the working winch but a big minus the already mentioned STAMP and the limited space available in the container in comparison with 6693 Refuse Collection Truck.
Speaking of STAMPS, our sets with them always got disassembled at some point so none of those stickers survived but fortunately it seems some people never took those sets apart again as I recently acquired a 4025 Fire Boat and 6382 Fire Station from a second hand shop with all stickers still intact. So now my dilemma, should I take them apart and build something else? ;-)

@T79:
The comment box times out after the most recent page load/refresh. There’s now a timer that shuts down the comment button and warns you to copy your comment before refreshing the page to reactivate the comment box, but I’ve noticed it only works when you have the page active. If you switch to a different tab, or let the screen go dark, the on-screen countdown stops, while the server countdown does not. This can create a window where the server will stop accepting your post, but the page will still let you send it. And yes, if that happens, it just dumps whatever text you have in the comment box.

Nice little set that I still have in its original box. Yes, stickers over multiple pieces is a problem, so it just never gets taken apart. This was the very first set I bought from the back pages of the catalogues, where at one time all of the available "spare parts" and special sets could be ordered. Ah yes, the pre-internet days!

By in Croatia,

I remember this set. When I was a kid, it was this set or 6260, I choose 6260 and I loved it!
